We love coming to Double Ai! Whether it's delivery or dining in, they are great! Fast delivery service, highest quality sushi and delicious meat dishes. Their fried rice is five star. Their staff is helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself is clean and gets quite busy on weekends. If possible, try and eat on their patio on the lake. Double Ai opened recently in the space that had been Lake Sea. Located just north of Hamburg Turnpike on Terhune Drive, aka Route 202. A friend and I stopped by for lunch today and sat on the outdoor deck. Beautiful day with a view across the river, good service and good food at reasonable prices. Lunch specials were $7.95 and came with a first course (soup, salad or spring roll) and entree. The place calls itself an "Asian Bistro" - they offer Chinese, Japanese, a little Thai, and a sushi bar. My friend had a spring roll to start (good) followed by kung pao chicken (also good). I had the hot and sour soup to begin (best that I have had in some time) followed by General Tso chicken (very nice, not too much batter, white meat chicken). I will be going back often, especially while the deck is open. Only problem is that they need a few more umbrellas. read more

Summary: Very well executed upscale Chinese food at mid-range prices. We were here on Christmas Eve. We waited a few minutes and passed the time watching some extremely grumpy fish. The space was totally packed and quite noisy but they had extra servers on hand and service was totally adequate and cheerful. While the menu is a combination of a standard Chinese menu, a standard Japanese menu, and about a quarter of a standard Thai menu, we stuck with Chinese. Appetizers were scallion pancakes, pom-pom chicken, and Mongolian beef skewers. The pancakes were crisply fried and tasty. The chicken was stir-fried strips in a peanutty-brown sauce. It was very good and was the size of an entree. The four skewers were a good size, tender and a good flavor. Entrees were general Tso's chicken, orange chicken, chicken and shrimp in black pepper sauce, and a chicken with vegetables in black bean sauce (Chef Wang's). The fried chicken dishes were exceptional - thick, moist pieces of white meat with a thin but crispy breading and a flavorful sauce that wasn't over-sweet as these things often are. The other two dishes were also tender and well cooked, with crisp vegetables and flavorful sauces in reasonable amounts (not drowning). Entrees were very reasonable given the quality - 11-13 dollars for chicken, 12-15 for shrimp, with portions just large enough for a few leftovers. Everyone at the table agreed that the food was 90th percentile as far as standard American Chinese restaurants. Then, since it was Christmas eve, we were brought complimentary scoops of ice cream for everyone at the table (green tea and chocolate, excellent, not too strong and overwhelming a green tea taste) in addition to the usual orange slices and cookies. Finally, by the time we had eaten and paid, we were alone in the restaurant with a large family. From the buzz of their conversation we heard phrases like "how much government there is nowadays" and "let me tell you how Medicaid REALLY works..." at which time we shouted "politics at Christmas, run! GO! GO!" and the four of us dove out of the booth and sprinted out of the restaurant, through a tunnel of staff who were all smiling and wishing us happy holidays. read more

Ugh, great food, astonishing bad service. In one seating: Appetizers delivered to wrong table, eventually found their way to us. After appetizers cleared away, still waiting 45 minutes later for dinner. Finally able to flag down manager. My dinner arrived, but not spouse's. Flagged down manager again, spouse's dinner arrives - but not what he ordered. Meanwhile, I'm done eating so we opt to pay bill and cancel his meal. Can't get check so we walk to register. Been coming here way before it was Double Ai but I've always enjoyed the food. Seems clean, friendly staff, great view of the water, prices are fair and food is always fresh and flavorful. Took off one star because it's a bit frustrating placing an order since the wait staff can barely understand or speak English. There's been a few times my order came out wrong because of this reason. Other than that minor issue, I still do enjoy coming here. read more

Some awesome food that is made even better by a great outdoor seating area right on the water. The food is far better than any of the delivery places in the area. The big outdoor patio right along the water is awesome for nice days and enjoying some fresh air. It's a perfect spot for a family meal out in the air. read more

This is a great place to get non greasy Asian food. Haven't tried any of their seafood yet, but what I do like about this place is the outdoor seating and easy accessibility for to go orders. read more

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend one night after his mother recommended it to us. When I first walked it, I got a little nervous. The decor was extremely dated and dingy looking. It was a big turnoff. It was very dim lighting and lots of mirrors. (The fish tank was cute though!) While the ambiance left something to be desired, the food really was delicious. I had chicken and broccoli in garlic sauce and my boyfriend had sushi. We both had very large portions, I went home with leftovers. Good crunchy noodles too- a must for me at a Chinese restaurant. Recently had the best/healthy meal. I had i special meal prepared which included General Tao chicken sliced and not fried ! I was freakin delish!!! I also had brown rice with it. I loved it. Taste was right on. Thanks guys !! read more

We had dinner once again on there outdoor deck by the water, I can cannot say enough about the staff ! They are very courteous and attentive to your evening ! The owners really go out of "their way " to make it a great experience . I feel very comfortable here, great place to end your week and relax in a great atmosphere . . One of the best Asian cuisine restaurants I have been too! Sushi is off the charts fresh with a large assortment of speciality rolls as well to select from . Jeffrey the manager actually called to apologize for the poor food noting not enough starch for the teriyaki sauce and putting the wrong type of tofu in my entree. A very unexpected call but there is obviously enough care about their Yelp reviews. He offered me 20% off the next order - an added star for effort! PS the food we got was indeed disgusting. Went here with a group of 5 on a Friday night. We were worried about getting seated, but the place was fairly empty for a weekend evening. Our server was attentive and friendly; he gave us recommendations and steered us away from dishes that he felt were "just ok." The restaurant serves various types of asian cuisine including, japanese, thai, and chinese. Places like this tend to make me think that they are trying too many things at once and probably doing none of them in a spectacular way. My assumption was proven correct. It was a convenient place for us to go to appease different styles of eaters, but would not be my first choice if I was looking for a great meal. I had the salt and pepper squid appetizer, yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, and a sushi roll. Everything was good, but nothing stood out. I would give this place another shot, but am not dying to return. The outside seating did look beautiful on the water, so the atmosphere probably draws guests in during the warmer season. read more

The staff is nice enough, food is fine, great views yada yada yada. The night we were there, there was an older woman roaming from table to table, either the owner or manager or something. She seemed sweet enough but couldn't help throwing out four-letter words very loudly. We didn't appreciate that she had no regard for how her trash talk might be a turn off to some patrons. Just a low-class act. Also, can't understand the need for valet parking. Are we that lazy, people, that we can't walk 50 feet to a restaurant? read more

Been here a few times and I'm not disappointed with the food that keeps coming out. Sit outside if you can, facing the lake and not the highway. Portions of the food were more than adequate. The chirashi came out in what probably was a small punch bowl. BYOB, so that's a plus, stop at the Bottle King on 23. Service was quick and they're more than willing to adjust orders, like making a pad thai gluten free. Prices are more than reasonable given the size of the food. read more

Me and my girlfriend decided to get take out and we chose to order from here. Since I was on my way to her house I decided to go in, order and wait there. The staff was so friendly and even gave me a complimentary cup of tea. The atmosphere inside was tranquil and very nice while I waited for our order. We ordered chicken and vegetable dishes and each a California roll. Meals were fresh and full of flavor. Sushi was nice and fresh! We will definitely come back especially when the patio over looking the lake is open!! read more

What a great experience. Double Ai was exactly that; an experience not just a meal. To parallel their incredible sushi the environment and staff is exceptional. The menu has something for everyone from classic Chinese dishes to Thai favorites and the freshest sushi. There were so many special roll options I couldnt decide. When I asked my server he went above and beyond and created a roll personally for me with my two favorite in one. The ambiance was more than pleasant; an inside seating area with a sushi bar and a water front view and an outside patio overlooking the river. An exceptional environment for family, friends, events, or a casual date night. Can not wait to return to try something different and visit my new friends. read more

Great, friendly, attentive staff. Hubby was a bit disappointed as there wasn't much of a Thai selection but we were both impressed with the fresh sushi and our dinner. Good size portions, we both took home doggy bags. Needs to be updated and painted but definitely will go back again read more

Double Ai is by far my favorite sushi/Chinese restaurants in north Jersey. The portions are huge and the sushi/sashimi is ALWAYS fresh. Service is great where the waiters are quick and friendly, and Jeff (one of the owners) is always so accommodating and treats you like family. I ate here for the first time and I must say I had a wonderful overall experience. First, the location is just breathtaking. Driving around in Wayne, I would not have expected to be driving down a road and have a restaurant overlooking the water. It is almost like a hidden gem if you aren't from Wayne. The valet staff were so friendly and courteous. They made sure they came around to open all the doors for all the passengers. They were well-groomed and professional. The wait staff were so hospitable, making sure everyone was pleased. We had fried scallops as an appetizer and they were huge and yummy. All the sushi rolls had their own flair to them. There were so many options, I wanted to try more. My friends and I were there for a while and were not rushed out. Definitely coming back to try more! read more

I came here awhile ago with some co-worker. We were looking for a place that had good food and outside seating. Surprisingly there are not that many places in the area. Anyway - when we got here we had to walk through the restaurant to get to the patio and boy did it smell like fish that have been sitting there for awhile. It was not a pleasant smell. To be honest I would have walked out once I got a whiff of that nasty fishy smell but I didn't want to be "that girl". We ended up getting three different dishes and doing family style. One Chinese, One Sushi (what was I thinking) and One Thai. None of the dishes were to my liking. The Chinese dish was doused with sauce - I couldn't really taste what I was eating. All I could taste was the thick/rich sauce it was sitting in. The sushi, I didn't really eat as I was afraid that I would get sick from - remember what I said in the beginning. It smelt like fish gone bad when we walked into the restaurant. The Thai was dry and didn't really have much flavor to it. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with our lunch :-( read more

This is one of those wonderful Chinese restaurants that remind you of the great Chinese restaurants of many years ago. The era before buffets. The era when service was wonderful, and the food was absolutely delicious! All the tables at this restaurant are covered with wonderful clean white tablecloths. The service is outstanding and the food is just as good as the menu says its going to be. The only downside is the existence of a television that broadcasts sports. If they would just remove that I think the atmosphere would be perfect. No television needed here! read more

The food from here is usually pretty good. I don't usually order things that are too complicated, though - the yuki roll is awesome, and the sushi is really fresh. However, they don't indicate on the menu which dishes have peanut in them. I remember getting sesame noodles and being really surprised when there was a peanut taste and crushed peanuts all over them. So definitely stick to the sushi and avoid the cooked food. It's kind of expensive, and when I order take out it's almost never ready when they say it will be, you usually have to wait despite the fact that it's not often crowded there. But overall, cool place, decent sushi, not bad. read more

I suggest you not come here until the pandemic is over. The most unorganized restaurant I've been to. After putting our name in (because they do not take reservations) our number was called, but the second half of our party of 4 was 2 minutes away, they insisted we wait. Rather then giving us the next available table, they put us in the back of the list. We waiting well over an hour. Not good. read more

This place is amazing. The service is outstanding and the presentation is perfection, especially when considering the price. I have loved everything I have tried here: chicken with broccoli, their sushi rolls (try the Firehouse) and Thai have left me speechless. Good sushi and a great band for your buck. Amazing location and food!!! My husband and I went here during lunch and sat outside on the deck that looks over the river. Beautiful! We order fried scallops as our appetizer and for our entree we ordered general tso chicken with vegetable fried rice. The fried scallops melt in your mouth. Amazing! But don't try cutting them because the scallop will fall out of the lightly fried coating. But no matter how you eat it, it tastes amazing. The general tso chicken was also lightly battered and big pieces of white chicken. I don't think I have had a general tso with so much chicken in each piece. Yum!!! The sauce was really good but more on the sweeter side then spicy. The vegetable fried was also pretty good. Sushi here is amazing!!! Sometimes the service is slow, but the manager is amazing and makes sure your being helped. Must Try!!! BYOB! read more

Great sushi rolls. My favorites so far are the princess roll and the spicy girl roll. The gyosas are phenomenal. Much better than the dumplings. They have Thai ice tea listed on the menu, but the two times I went, the had run out. The view at dusk/night is amazing. Great for a date night. But I recommend bug repellent. Double Ai is one of my wife's and I favorite date night spot whether it just be the two of us or with a group. In the summer they have outdoor seating overlooking a lake which provides great ambiance. Last night we sat indoors which was also very lovely. The manager Jeffrey really does a great job of taking care of you and making you feel welcome. He greeted us and gave us some House sake to start the evening. It's BYOB which is awesome for us as well. We started with the princess roll sushi which is the best sushi roll we have ever had. We then had dumplings for the first time which were also excellent. For dinner my wife and I split the land and sea which is filet and shrimp served on a sizzling plate, it's delicious to say the least. We then also had the general tsos and fried rice. Overall the evening and restaurant were amazing, we will continue to be dining here for years to come! read more
