Upon arrival, we were made to wait outside with the restaurant not being very busy, at all. When we made it in, the customer service was very poor. The lady at the counter got the order wrong many times and blamed the customer in front of me. She was very ugly. The price is ridiculous for the quality of the food and service combined. The quality of the food was okay if you compare it to fast food. The ambiance was awkward. If they heard you talking about the food or service, the drifted around your table. They also started turning away customers when they arrived, but let select few come in and get loads of food after turning people away for "lack of food." All together, i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

A group of friends, visiting Helen, GA went to this restaurant this morning. We walked in, and there was no signage indicating if we should seat ourselves, or what we should do. Upon standing there for about sixty seconds, an employee passed us, without saying a word. It appeared that you were supposed to approach the counter, place your order, move on to a pay station, before filling your own drink. We only made it as far as the food order area. The female employee that walked past us earlier, was there, and she appeared to be in a fowl mood. One of the members of our party asked about the options; she huffed turned her back, and began to read directly from the menu on the wall. A male employee was walking past our party into the kitchen, and another member of our party greeted him. He muttered something as he pushed past. It was at that point we decided to go elsewhere. As soon as we left, we came upon a party of two, who had just finished their meal. They were also very dissatisfied with the attitudes of everyone in the restaurant. They mentioned that the person at the pay station was even more unpleasant than the people behind the counter. I'm glad we didn't make it that far! read more

Dottie's Kitchen serves up cafeteria style down home cooking. Our party of 2 adults & 3 kids had a fried pork chop special, 2 hamburger steaks, a veggie plate and a side of Mac n cheese. Everything was fantastic! We're on our way out of town, headed home, but wishing we had discovered this gem sooner in our trip. Everyone here is attentive and sweet, helping us with drinks and all the extras we needed to enjoy our meal. We highly recommend Dottie's for the delicious food and wonderful staff. read more

The best thing about the place is the staff. They were friendly, patient, and helpful. Parking is tight as with most places in town and it was cold inside the restaurant. As others have mentioned, it is cafeteria style, which means that the food isn't necessarily hot and fresh. In their defense, it was 12:30 and we ordered breakfast. We chose a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit, pancakes w/bacon and a side of banana pudding. The biscuit was the best. The rest of the food was luke warm, except the banana pudding, which was room temperature (my husband loves it cold). I enjoyed the meringue on top of the banana pudding. The bacon was over cooked but nicely salty. They have coke products and generic ketchup. read more

Was so sad and disappointed. Was hopeful this would be a great breakfast spot but it was just very average, if not below. The staff wasn't t overly friendly. I knew that lunch was cafeteria style, but I expected breakfast to be a little bit more fresh. The eggs were like powdered scrambled eggs, bacon was so greasy, pancakes fry, the biscuits were good, but could have been served warmer. For the price, it wasn't great. States business it is open and walked about 2 miles to see that the place is closed. I guess they don't care enough to update hours or closed business days so that people don't have to walk across town to find out they are not open for the day. If I could rate the staff it would be a 10 star review! Honestly they were amazing. My son has a dairy and soy allergy and the staff cleaned the grill and made his and my wife's to order minus the allergens. I couldn't ask for a better experience. As for the food it's not your average restaurant. More of a cafeteria style breakfast with a slightly better quality. I would say if your not feeling a fancy breakfast but are super hungry head on in. This isn't some burger joint pumping out your Monday morning I'm late to work fix all either. Greatly disappointed. Read all the great reviews and anticipated a wonderful meal. Not the case. We arrived for lunch and hardly even greeted. Informed to order only the Wednesday buffet choices when others had other goods. Do direction, basic minimal service. Felt like I was intruding. Food was cold and it was only 12:30 lunchtime. Cafeteria style food service. $13 for a breakfast plate that consisted of bland scrambled eggs, an ok piece of fried steak, pretty good milk/white gravy, room temperature home fries and a really good cat head biscuit. I'd never heard of a cat head biscuit before, so guessing based on it's large size it's as big as a cat's head. A drink was also included. The biscuit was definitely the best part. We've been to Helen several times and this was our first trip to Dottie's. My only regret is that we didn't discover this place sooner! I thought it was by far the best breakfast that we've had. We got a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit, bacon biscuit, sausage & egg and sausage, egg & cheese. We also tried an order of the French toast and cheese grits. The service was great, the food was great and the biscuits are massive! Do yourself a favor and go check this this place out! read more

For perspective, You have to knock my socks off for 5 stars, so this is a good rating. Went there for breakfast and beat the crowd. Didn't realize this was a cafeteria type restaurant; go through a serving line and get your food on a tray. Breakfast was decent, not a lot of room to mess it up. Serving sizes were decent, prices reasonable, and quality okay. Of note, their biscuits were huge! Only complaint (?) was their coffee cups could be bigger and save me trips to the coffee machine! read more

So we came to Helen for my boyfriends last weekend in the states before he deploys overseas, on our last day we decided to try this place out for breakfast. The staff was super nice! But the food was horrible for the price, or as my boyfriend says "on deployment food". Nothing really had flavor, the eggs were really dry, and the coffee was bland. Since it's cafeteria style everything is kept under a heat lamp, so the bacon got super greasy, and the French toast stuck together an had no flavor what so ever. Pretty much everything we both had wasn't good. But I mean if your hungry you can eat it. But if your looking for a nice breakfast place while staying, I would go somewhere else. read more

If you are concerned about Covid it is worth noting the employees did not wear masks and social distancing was not enforced as all tables were seated. We got Dottie's breakfast special: eggs, bacon, home fries, and biscuit. The food was served cafeteria style - you wait in line and are dished out food you select on a plate and pay at the cashier. Came here for breakfast one morning with my son! Very good service, great food and awesome atmosphere. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for!
