The Doshi House Cafe reminds me of a run down yet artsy coffee shop. The location is not in the safest part of town and the parking is also very small. Me and my group of friends would constantly look outside the window to make sure our car was still there. The inside furniture was also not very clean or new. However, the food was good! I ordered the Mumbai Street sandwich which came in a good size and a side of banana chips. I would recommend this place for vegans or vegetarians, but just be cautious of the area you are in. read more

Doshi House is one of my absolute favorite spots in Houston. The food is great, the coffee is divine, but what really makes this place special is the community. It is truly a one of a kind space. The people who work here are kind and knowledgeable about what they are serving, and always willing to strike up a friendly conversation. Many of the regulars know each other and greet each other warmly. There's always at least one group having a lively meeting, usually discussing community initiatives. It is very rare to find such a community-centered place that also has great (vegan) food and coffee/tea. It is an absolute staple in the community and a place I love to work and study. Some of the potential downsides, as other reviewers alluded to, are parking and pricing. The parking can be a little tricky, but you can typically find street parking if there's no room in their little lot. The prices are a little more than you might expect, almost $5 for a taco, $6 for some lattes. But, you get what you pay for: fresh, handmade, healthy, and delicious vegan food that comes with great service and community. If you want something no-fuss like a drip coffee, it's $3 with a free refill, which alone has fueled many of my study sessions here. I'm so glad I decided to try this place out! I've been doing a fast for church and haven't had meat or anything "good" in over a week. I decided to change things up and go to a proper restaurant that caters to a vegan lifestyle. After looking at a couple of reviews, I decided to give Doshi House a try. I think this place is definitely my type. I like the chill and relaxing ambiance inside a very thrift and rustic styled space. It's so cute compared to its surroundings. Parking may not seem so great, but I'm glad enough that it had its own lot compared to many other downtown packed places. In my transition to become vegan, I think the food was great. Sad that my friends and I missed the lunch menu, but the evening menu of creole red beans and rice was something new to try. My friend didn't like it because she wasn't use to the style of rice. It was dry and stringy to her, but I think she's just too use to the rice served in our Vietnamese culture. For about $7.52 the portion was okay, and it didn't have a lot of flavors, but the beans were hearty. Even though they only served one dish and a soup per day for the evening menu, I think it's interesting that way because it's easier to believe that the ingredients are fresh and just made. It seemed like the owner was the only chef. Him and his cashier both helped bring out the food and I see him casually sweeping the floor and greeting his customers (seems like a nice fellow). The pies were really yummy and filling even though they were quite expensive. The flavors in the tofu masala and veggie enchilada pies were very interesting and tasty. The black bean and potato masala was filling and I heard it was the most popular. I prefer either the tofu masala or veggie enchilada. Tofu masala had a nice spice to it and veggie enchilada had a nice melty texture and diverse veggie flavor. I didn't know before, but the veggie may have had cheese in it. I'll try to ask next time and avoid it. To me, the black bean and potato was the most plain. Overall I enjoyed the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. They have wifi and accept credit cards. They also have a nice long couch for you to lay on. If this location was near me, I would go there everyday to study. I order an empanada and two mini cupcakes. The empanada tasted old and the filling was cold. I got two pink mini cupcakes assuming they were strawberry flavor. I don't know if they were gluten free or what but they were so dense and flavorless, the frosting also had a weird texture and flavor, I couldn't tell what it was. My nephew tried it and he said it tasted like Raid. The inside of the place is old and dirty. I get they want to set a theme but why not keep it clean and fix the peeling paint. I went to lunch yesterday with a good friend of mine and she usually picks the spots because she's pretty good at picking yummy spots. Yesterday's choice was Doshi House Cafe. This restaurant is located in Third Ward and how lucky are they to have such an amazing little cafe apart of their community. Upon entering the inside of the cafe we were greeted at the door by a little stray puppy that I automatically started calling Doshi. Once inside we were able to meet Deepak. He is the gentleman that was running the place. He told us the story about the pup and how he has been providing a place for the pup to be safe until he can find the pup a home and that day he found little Doshi a home! Once fully inside I noticed all the original art that was hanging all over the place. Me being an art lover I felt right at home. Deepak was so kind to us. I am a very picky eater and had lots of questions about the vegetarian sandwiches that were on the menu. Deepak answered all of my questions and even let me have a small sample of an item I wasn't sure about. I choose the tuscan vegetarian panini with fried plantains and jasmine tea. It was delicious! Everything is made in house so the ingredients were fresh. The tea was amazing and to top it off right before we left I ordered a Zen smoothie. I love going to places where the vibe is great and the people are even greater and that's exactly what you will get if you happen to stop by Doshi House Cafe. I like the whole concept of trying not to use gmo ingredients and can't wait to try the Thai dishes and smoothies but I don't like how the menu is so limited and I have to go out out of my way to get certain things because they only have so and so on different days I had the artisan sandwich and it was really good and flavorful. I loved the banana chips with it. The latte I had was pretty terrible. I had to add a lot of sugar in it and it ok but I didn't even finish my drink and I'm a coffee lover 3 stars means ok, this place is not bad. Finally checked out Doshi's cafe after hearing many good things about this place. Some of my fellow yelpers kept on going on & on about this place. I came here for lunch with a friend of mine and it was delightful. I got the artisan grill sandwich with a cappuccino with almond milk both really good. Friend of mine ordered the mumbai street sandwich with a thai tea. She was delighted with her choices as well. The facility to me looks like somebody cleaned out a thrift store and put all the furniture at this place. Not like theres anything wrong it that. Just random items here & thereThe atmosphere is nice, quite and homie. Definitely a good place to study, or read, whatever sinks your ship. We were probably the only people for a for a little while. Doshi House is eclectic with their style, foods, and architecture at this this vegan gem. I had the Yachea Gogi panini which is stuffed with mushrooms and red cabbage in a Korean BBQ sauce. My mouth and tummy were in sync on good vibes. I opted for the lemon cookie latte over ice made with almond milk. Trust me, it was "the bomb." As for my vegan dessert, a strawberry cupcake with almond and buttercream frosting. The cake itself was a little dry but the buttercream frosting was amazing (and I always throw away frosting). The parking spot is full of elephant holes so if you can help it, park on the side, on the curb. Good prices and food and chill people work here, which is always a plus. The location is a little bit off the beaten path, but once you get inside this redone house filled with mismatched couches and tables perfect for reading/studying and try the food and drinks, you won't even notice. The smoothie we ordered wage huge, thick, and fresh and the sandwiches we tried were awesome! The Mumbai Streets Panini was my favorite of the two (the other one we tried was the Tuscan Red, which didn't sit as well with me), and I'd definitely recommend it to any vegetarians out there! The sandwiches come with some tasty banana chips on the side (I'm a fan) but also some spinach leaves mixed in with the banana chips (I was confused about this...I felt a little bit like a rabbit nibbling on some fresh greens). I really wanted to try the Mughal Spice (saffron chai) but they didn't have some of the ingredients available, so I tried the Kadak Chai instead. It was flavorful and served piping hot in a glass mug just like at my grandparents' house in India. Hopefully I'll get to come back and try the Mughal Spice and some of their other interesting hot drinks, smoothies, and food. I hate to give a vegan place a bad rating, but they gave me no other option. After driving over 30 minutes to get there, we were greeted in the parking lot by an employee. We were told they had a slow day, so they were closing early. So far, so good! This is my first time here, and so far I love it. I ordered an Americano. Simple start, but the espresso: WOW. It's strong but doesn't have the icky taste like most cafe's I've been to (which is hard to find). There's almost a comfort to it. Mmmmmm~ good espresso = happy jessica. The baristas are really friendly and the music is really chill. It seems like a decent place to study as well or have a chat with a friend or two. I'm really curious about their paninis but I came around dinnertime so I didn't get a chance. I did see a lot of people order food, and it looks so good! I really regret eating before coming here. They also have a lot of art on the walls by local artists and such, (I overheard the owner talk to a customer saying one of the paintings were by a U of H student). This is a great spot. Third Ward has a limited amount of restaurants right now and i was just ecstatic when Doshi House reopened after month of being remodeled. Their lattes are the best and they have some breakfast tacos that I love. For lunch their soups and sandwiches are amazing. It's a great spot to have meetings and or work on your laptop. I've been eyeing this place on Yelp for quite a while and I'm so glad that I finally made the visit! It is located in the Third Ward which is an area of Houston that I hardly ever go to. It is not the safest area, but just make sure to not leave anything valuable in your car! They have some parking spots available behind the building, but if it's full, you can also park on the street. The building from outside is not the most attractive architecture, but you'll forget about how it looks from outside once you enter the building. The inside of this cafe is very cozy and artsy. I went on a Saturday for lunch and the place was packed! I ordered Mumbai Street Panini and Pistachio Latte. Yummm! The panini came with plantain chips and fresh spinach on the side. The panini itself was packed with flavorful goodness. It is a vegetarian sandwich with the main ingredient as potatoes. I asked my Indian friend and she said this type of sandwich is actually a popular street food in Mumbai! Super personal set up at this establishment. Although this was my first time being here. Seemed that they ran out of items on the menu. Only leaving me with two option to choose from.
