I'm no Indian, but from my limited taste - this place is legit and authentic. Their service was extremely friendly and helpful too, although they weren't super busy anyway. My friend and I split a spiced idli appetizer (rice/lentil cakes) - SO good. Apparently they have a new thing on Tuesday's called "dosa night" - all you can eat dosas for $13.99 (at the time of this post). So we tried almost every kind. They were all great. As a kid of South Indian immigrants, I grew up eating South Indian home-cooking. I came to Dosa-n-Curry because of the Groupon and because I pass it every week on my pilgrimage to Market Basket. My dining partner and I ordered the idlis+sambar appetizer, paper masala dosa, aloo naan, bhindi masala, and rice pudding. (Including groupon, tax and tip, I paid $24). 1) Idlis + sambar: Idlis are steamed rice+lentil cakes. Their sponginess is nice to absorb the flavors of the sambar (spicy tomato-based lentil-veggie soup) and chutney (coconut and another - possibly tomato). I think people admire very fluffy idlis, and although these were not insanely fluffy, they were fluffy enough and tasted good. The sambar had just the right balance of vegetable-flavors, hints of sourness, and spiciness (at least spicy for a broad palate - I prefer mine spicier but they're running a business). The coconut chutney also hit all the necessary notes, but there was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on (perhaps I prefer mine less smooth so there's more texture). This dish was substantial and I think this appetizer plate would be a satisfying lunch. 2) Paper masala dosa: These were HUGE. Imagine a 4 foot long rolled up crepe. It was thin, crispy, and even colored, and you can easily taste the slight sourness which was nice. It was accompanied with a potato masala, along with the two chutneys from the idlis and a bowl of sambar. The potato masala was good - not over cooked, well spiced and reasonable in quantity. Only quibble was that the the oil-to-dosa ratio is a hint above my liking, but that's what you get with paper dosas. This was not dosa-n-curry's fault. 3) Aloo naan: It was large, warm, stuffed with flavorful potato filling, and good. The only caveat was that it seemed a touch oily when it came out. Maybe if they dimmed the lights some more it wouldn't have bothered me as much. But between the potato and the oil, it was pretty filling. 4) Bhindi masala: This okra dish was fine. The dish might need a bit of stirring before serving, as the bottom was oilier and the top had the cilantro. We ordered the mild and it was neither spicy nor devoid of flavor. 5) Rice pudding: I haven't eaten this yet. We were too full so just got it to go. Service/Ambience: The staff were friendly, and the food was prompt. They were pretty cool about being willing to let us use the groupon to order something besides the dosa or curry listed in the fine print; they said it would have been fine to order a House Special or an Uthappam. They had fine leftovers packaging (although I encourage them to move away from styrofoam) and clean bathrooms. All in all, I wasn't blown away, but I was spoiled growing up as far as South Indian food goes. Dosa-n-Curry was a really good meal. I look forward to going back. read more

It's my favorite restaurant for Indian food. Have dined here at least a dozen times in the past two years, and never had a less than excellent meal. I'm not from India, so perhaps there are subtle aspects in the flavors that go unnoticed by me, so I'll let the other reviewers comment on specific dishes. Dosa n Curry was one of my favorite places to get South Indian food in Boston. However, my recent visit left me very disappointed. The Vadas were rubbery and didn't taste fresh. The Sambhar tasted more like dal. The Dosas were a disappointment. I hope they get their act together again. read more

I am NOT going to talk about the dosas or the curries here, other reviews have covered them. But man o man, their Indo-Sicilian cuisine is hard to beat. Especially, because NO other restaurant has Indo-Sicilian cuisine. Or Indo-Sicilian-Chinese cuisine, for that matter. You gotta try: Paneer Tikka pizza Gobi-Manchurian-pizza And many others. These babies come in 16-inch sizes, with pizza sauces like you have never tasted before. My guess is that they dip the dough in sambhar before baking it, and them smother the pizza with some curry before putting on delicious paneer toppings. Pity that Indo-Sicilian(-Chinese) cuisine is take-out and delivery only. My modus operandi is to order take-out, and eat in their parking lot. I'm from South India, and don't live close to my parents to get Dosa & Idli when I want. Then I discovered that this place serves GIANT mysore masala dosai and other varieties. Even when I order over the phone, the dosas stay pretty good. Although I recommend eating in-house where its hot and crispy. Yay! --- UPDATE: In the beginning of December I saw a sign in their window that says they hope to open sometime around Dec 12-18. --- The main reason I'm writing this review is to alert customers that the business is temporarily closed. If you go to the restaurant, you will see a sign posted saying that the building was closed (by the city, I think) and that they will re-open in a few days. Sadly, it's been like this for at least a month so I have no idea when they will actually open. I'm giving the restaurant 5 stars because this is (was) truly one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. Upon arrival I was confronted by a full-bodied woman that only asked "ONE?" The menu was beautiful and it was easy to find lots of vegan options in it, but I quickly fell under the impression that I was not welcomed to stay and eat there. I ordered a spicy soup (the only spicy one on the menu) with a weird name that ended up tasting like vinegar and looked like dirty motor oil. The other item was fabulously well presented and tasted good too(poori...soomething), but the plate (and I figured out that it was the plate) upon which it was served smelled like...MARIJUANA? Perhaps the dishwasher had found a workable way to subdue the feelings associated with low paid labor I thought. Perhaps the cook (the last person to handle the dish before the waitress was indeed the culprit. It could not have been the nameless waitress, for as rude as she was she did not smell like that! As I consumed said meal, my mind went in all directions: was I to get high for the first time from eating this? What about the people with small children on the middle- of-the-room table; were they in danger too? This could not be real nor could it be happening. All I wanted was a healthy vegan meal! Why was I being treated in such despotic manner? Lastly, I was denied a water refill (and this was the real deal breaker). The waitress that re-filled glasses on the next table had surely seen me politely wave for her attention and for water, but only sneered at me. Had I somehow disturbed the intricate caste system of a foreign country, or did I perfectly fit in it? I am truly convinced that I will never know, at least not from this place. read more

This place WAS great! Service traditional south Indian food - a welcome break from the Maharajas & India Palace & Shalimars and a hundred other "Indian" restaurants that ALL serve the same food - saag panner, chole, some chicken tikka masala etc. We loved the idlis/ dosas/ rice based dishes... Alas, the ownership changed and the food has too. It's become just another Indian restaurant. The muligutawny soup was just heated tomato water with LOTS of black better/ the sambar was terrible... overall food was bad. And we paid $50 bucks for the two of us (with two small kids under 5). Worse, we had left behind our kids water bottles theres - 3 days before school started of course, and when I called back 4 days later, (after remembering where I could have left them) I was told I had to call back earlier. The first person said oh they are there, and then another person said they weren't! Apparently they had been 'donated' because I hadn't called earlier. 4 stars for the dosas - I am South Indian and this is comfort food for me. ThAt said the paper dosa wasn't as thin as it probably should be but tasty either way, my husbands masala dosa was the same thickness just smaller. They could've had more potato masala- it wasn't enough. Sambar was ok, coconut chutney meh but the mango chutney was awesome with a bit of ginger! 2 stars for the mango lassi -it was sugar syrup. No stars for the badam halva - it was bad- like the weird taste of something sitting in a freezer for a loong time. Next time I know to stick with the dosas. Service was good, she came by clear dishes etc and wasn't hovering which is great. I know I hated the food and service when I came here a couple years ago so I'm glad I can get my dosa fix here again. read more

I ordered this place for delivery a few times and it was ok. My most recent order the driver texted and then drove off with my food. He claimed to have another delivery. He also claimed he was a new driver. When I called the restaurant I spoke with the owner who said he in face had worked there a while and didn't have another delivery. So this weirdo was driving around with my food. Avoid this place. You can find much better food and much better service elsewhere. read more

We trusted the reviews on yelp and set out for brunch on saturday morning. The podi idly was uncooked and we could taste the batter, the sambhar was nothing like a south Indian one. Its refreshing to find a vegetarian restaurant these days ... you know the way your food is prepared has not been cross contaminated with any meat products. Usually get the paneer tikka masala which is very tasty and flavorful but they give too much rice, wish they would give you the option of replacing it with naan instead. Downsight is that while we were eating the waitress kept coming to our table to ask about the bill and if we've paid yet. They have some very unique and authentic south indian dishes (read from TamilNadu) like Ennai Kathirikka & Poondu Kuzhambu. Their Dosas are also quite good. Nice and crispy with coconut chutney. But, they also have a lot of dishes and some of them lack in consistency. The manchurian gobi and garlic noodles were very oily and not that great. They don't make their own chappathis/Parathas, they seem to use the frozen ready made ones which is a huge turn off. read more

Have been here twice. Both times, the chaat-type food has been great (e.g. bhel puri, samosa chat, pav bhaaji, etc). However, our mains (e.g. temple masala dosa) have been lackluster. The filter coffee and masala chai were both awful, which is particularly bad given the momo place 0.5 block down the road has great masala chai for very affordable. I give this 4 stars because it is hard to find good chaat in Boston. But I will probably avoid non-chaat moving forward. read more

When we ordered, our waiter asked how spicy we wanted our food. We asked for "Indian spicy." He looked at us skeptically and said, "I don't think so. How about medium?" Sure enough, the food was spiced to perfection. He pegged us well :-) The table service is excellent and takeout is quick. I've been several times now and the food is consistently good. I personally believe people who gives 1 star saying everything was terrible at this restaurant are the kind of retard people so don't fallow them and take the words for Extreme foodie person who has been eating at this restaurant for almost 5 years. It's family owned place! Food is fantastic so does the service! Yes there comes time when food taste average but that's acceptable, there are humans cooking in there not some robots. There Dosa and South Indian food is fabulous, you might say it does not taste like that restaurant, f**k sake stop comparing ! This is the only vegetarian Indian restaurant in Boston and its above average than any other Indian restaurant you will try in Boston so eat and enjoy. Wow! The minute I walked in to Dosa n Curry I was brought back to Hyderabad, or Bangalore, or somewhere I loved in India. All of my South Indian favorites including dosa, idli and vada. Some items such as pav bhaji I have never seen outside of India. The only place in America where I have had more authentic South Indian is at the home of my a friend's mother who is from Hyderabad. We went in for a lunch buffet exactly when they opened and the food was ready. It was absolutely delicious. There were about 6 different entrees, two soups, two types of rice, plenty of condiments and even dosa. All of this for $9 on weekdays. Everything tasted really fresh and the service was awesome. Also known as "Dosa Temple". I would give a specific recommendation, but literally everything I've gotten here (cooked mild) is amazing! I have even taken my picky little cousins here who have never tried Indian and they were shocked at how much they enjoyed the food! The chefs can make almost anything on the menu vegan, at your request, and are very good at catering to your dietary needs. There is no alcohol served here, but the staff is very friendly and the menu is well-priced. I would recommend this to vegetarians, vegans, & omnivores! read more
