Oh nice to see a full counter service bakery. We all are guilty of going to food stores in a pinch and grabbing baked items. The array of delights in this bakery me so impressed. I have been looking for Stuffoli (Italian Honey Balls ) from a bakery in Long Island for quite some time. Luckily, I ventured here and treated myself to the smaller portion size, even though they did have two other others available. The deep fried bowls of honey caramelized and honey and topped with rainbow sprinkles and candied fruit. I thought the price was reasonable for bakeries today. Additionally, while I was there, I witnessed some unpleasant behavior from an elderly Kowal, who was disrespectful and rude to the staff, which added to the overall negative experience. Ordered a Birthday Cake end of August. Cakes are decorated pretty but the taste is not as good as it looks. This is the 2nd cake we bought that we didn't finish and threw out! The icing is not tasty. I'm so sad this one is a skip for me. A Disgrace to What Once Was a Staple Dortoni's Bakery in Commack has become an absolute disgrace compared to what it once represented in Levittown. This used to be a beloved institution known for its quality and integrity -- now it's a shell of its former self. I went in to purchase three cakes -- a substantial order -- and noticed a clearly posted sign showing the price of a chocolate babka at $18.50. When I got to the counter, I was told the price was now $18.95. I politely pointed out the sign, and rather than honoring their own posted price, they refused. Over a difference of 45 cents, they lost a sale worth over $70-$80. It's not about the money -- it's about the principle and respect for loyal customers. The owner should be ashamed. Dortoni's has gone from a community favorite to a greedy, poorly managed business that no longer values the people who supported them for decades. To see such disregard from a place that once had heart and pride is beyond disappointing. There should be an option for 1/36 of a star review. Nope. I'm going to stop coming here. It's only getting more disappointing. The original Levittown location was always fresh with homemade touches to their pastries, I even had my wedding care from there. It's been several years since the commack location opened and I frequently come because it's close to home. In the beginning my pastries very sometimes dry but sometimes good. This weekend, we picked up a cake for mother's day so it had to be fresh. Fast forward, the cake was fresh, too fresh. Designs on the cake were sloppy (which is no big deal, it's a holiday and they rushed, as long as it's fresh moist and delicious). What I didn't want, was these marshmallow looking pieces in my cake. I bought a chocolate cake with ganache, I didn't know it had marshmallow. Oh but it didn't have marshmallows, it was chucks of margarine...lots of it. Every slice had it. How are you going to even present this to customers? Your baker had to have seen it while frosting the cake.There's no care for quality anymore, if I wanted a mass produced cake, I could have gotten a whole sheet for half the price. I've been to the store in Levittown and remembered how good their cream puss were so I decided to get them at this store and was greatly disappointed. In Levittown they melted in your mouth. Here they were over cooked and hard. They weren't burnt but they were not of a quality that they should have been served. The difference in the quality of the stores will hurt the brand name so they probably should get on top of quality control. Also they should respect the customer and only serve the best, not something that's just ok. I pay for just ok at stop and shop. We just left our wedding cake tasting at Dortoni Bakery in Commack and we had a wonderful experience!! The staff were pleasant when they greeted us at the bakery. We were provided with a wide arrange of options to taste and they were all delicious; it was hard to choose! They also had exact design we were looking for, were so excited our wedding vision is coming to life. We know the final result with four tiers is going to be not only delicious but beautiful as well. Purchased a small raspberry tart, rainbow cookies and pignoli cookies. The tart was so bad I had to throw it away. The rainbow cookies had so much almond paste that it was overpowering. The pignoli cookies were good. Gave it another try and purchased 6 rugelach, and 6 pignoli cookies for approximately $20.00. The raspberry rugelach was raw dough with an imitation filling. I had bought dessert from Dortini twice. My first time was strawberry cheesecake and I really like it. Lots of strawberry topping and the cheesecake wasn't too sweet. Second time I had cannoli cake. The cream was puffy and light. Cannoli cream was too sweet for me and the yellow cake wasn't as good as I hope. Since they have many different types of cake and open hour until 8pm, it's convenience to pick up some sweet after work. Price seems okay for bakery overall ($25-$30). Staffs are friendly. My friend told me about this place and I am so so happy to know that we have one only 5 minuets away. Went there the morning of for New Years Eve and the store is filled with beautiful cakes, pastries, and gift trays. They have panneton and they have gluten free options I am almost sure that I saw them. Their pastries are beautiful and you can order custom pastries. We decided to go with the large chocolate dipped and original cannoli's. They were a hit for our party. We even had a pretzel tray that had different chocolate covered, beautifully assorted pretzels. Unfortunately, couldn't get a photo quick enough since everyone attacked them. Will definitely be going back and already planning to potentially use for bridal shower. read more

Super cute bakery in an unassuming strip mall not too far off the 495. They had some beautifully decorated cakes ready to buy on display but I opted to get a variety of mini cakes and pastries so far their fresh made donuts, the heels filled and glazed chocolate are delicious! Had a mini cannoli while on the road and loved the the filling was not too light and not too thick and had a had a nice vanilla and light citrus flavor to it. Their glazed lemon cookies were a bit dry and crumbly but really packed a huge lemon flavor which I loved. Their mini cakes were very good... Standout was their vanilla and chocolate cake enclosed in white chocolate. From what I could tell, they do a ton of custom cakes, with some advance notice, and one customer ahead of me was buying a cake and was singing praises about the gender reveal cake she had ordered and received the weekend before. Being a specialty cake baker myself, I'll have to order a custom cake and judge for myself soon. Looking forward to my next visit here! read more

It was so sad after TortaFina closed since we really don't have any other bakeries in the area. The spot sat empty for a very long time. When I heard that Dortoni was coming, I seriously couldn't wait. I have been here a dozen times (living so close by) since they have opened and each experience is a good one. In the beginning, there were a lot of kinks that need to be worked out as far as service and slowly but surely that's exactly what's happening. The deserts, cakes, donuts, pastries are all beautiful and delicious. Best part is that they are affordable! I heard their line was 2 hours long on Christmas Eve! This location is a little hidden, but right off motor parkway across from North Shore Farms. While I love Dortonis, this location is not as good as the OG in Levittown. It is much smaller, and the selection isn't as large. It is great for staples, and the service is friendly, but I would rather make the treck to the Levittown location. That being said, it is quite clean and lively inside and as with any good bakery, expect a line and a wait! read more

Huge drop of the ball for the Dortoni's of Commack. I went there twice for two separate events to order cakes, and both times there has been an issue. The second which occurred on Sunday June 5th. I ordered a cake for my husbands promotion on May 17th to be picked up at 7am this past Sunday (June 5th). It was AWFUL. The writing was sloppy, and the design looked like they had just finished it as I walked in the door. All of that wasn't great, but the thing that really let me down was the picture they had scanned onto it. I had sent them a picture to be put on the cake, the part that I thought we be easy not to screw up. I was VERY VERY WRONG. They had told me the cake would be final checked and ready at 7am, to account for any issues that they may have had. I arrived at 2pm to pick up the cake; there was a giant bubble in the middle of the photo. I spoke to the shift manager, who agreed that it hadn't been checked, and that it was definitely messed up. She told me they would correct it now, but it would take 3 hours to fix it. I came to pick up the cake on my way to the event, I don't have three hours. I was offered a $25 credit for the picture. The credit isn't the point, it's that it was done incorrectly and never checked. Mistakes happen, but that's why quality checks in a business are standard practice. It's how you retain customers, and don't develop a bad reputation as unreliable. It was supposed to be ready by 7am and was still wrong at 2pm. That says you don't respect my time, your time, or the money your customers pay. That's how it works when you provide a service, you're selling yourself for people to recommend you in the future. I guess someone needs to teach that business lesson to the staff. I personally won't be going there again, and I'd honestly suggest you don't either. There are plenty of other places that will do the work you want. This just isn't one of them. If I could have given them zero stars I would have. read more

Manger is a bit of a hustler in the back when it comes to speciality cakes- watch the price they offer if you come here. We were ready to go, and we feel that the manager tried to change the price last minute to make more money, so we walked out. Here's the story: Walked in today to purchase a fondant cake for a party. Showed a picture of the cake (clearly fondant). We had called ahead and was told to come in when the manager was there. Walked in today, and a very nice woman helped us out. Told us it was about 290 for a 1 tier, 12 inch speciality fondant cake- which of course makes sense. We also wanted to purchase fondant cupcakes, so this was all adding up to around 400 plus, which was fine. Just as we were ready to make the payment, the manager came from the back and a second woman spoke with him. She then came over to us and told us the cake price was for butter cream and they told us the wrong thing. Now- I wonder about this butter cream, it must be a special butter cream because I have never seen a cake cost 300 for butter cream (unless maybe a wedding cake) but not a one tier 12 inch cake. We showed the picture and again, was told that the picture was buttercream (which it wasn't and we went to a second place after having no issues) They falsely claimed that the picture wasn't fondant but buttercream with fondant decorations on it. Not sure why they tried to do this. Maybe the manager or whoever that was thought they could squeeze a couple more dollars out of us but instead lost the entire sale. We walked out. Especially knowing cake prices and thinking that I spent less than 300 for my wife's massive fondant birthday cake at a different place. We went to Francesco's bakery (where I had gotten cakes in the past) in Hicksville. Had no issues. They charged less and gave us a much nicer cake. Up to you but we won't be going back to Dortoni bakery. If you do go, watch the prices and if you feel the hustle coming, walk out. There's better bakeries. read more

This bakery took an order for a cake, and when I tried to cancel 24 hrs later, they said I would be responsible for full payment even though I ordered the cake for 8 days later! This was a $90 cake! Since I ordered it so far in advance, and canceled only a day after placing the order, there is NO reason why they shouldn't have given me my money back! Instead, they gave me a $90 credit.
