I got a project and I need sandpaper, wood filler and primer!! Where else would I go?!…read morePeople are milling about: a you g couple is trying out the screw guns, another couple is looking at paint examples, a single man is looking for the right nails, and a lady with colorful hat is getting a key made. I find my items, because of the easy-to-read lists at the head of each aisle! There are only 150,000 items in this store, thank God it's organized! I was in and out in about ten minutes...not bad at all!!

I approached the first associate I saw and mentioned the workshop. They were not aware of the event. After a couple of radio calls we were directed to the garden center. We were handed a bag and told to sit down and jump right in. It is not instructor led. The project was building a lawnmower. The contraption was to be made with precut wood, coordinating nails and a hammer. The image leading project was not easy to understand because there was no way to guarantee the pieces aligned. I asked one of the associates for help and was told they did not know how to do the project and it was one of their harder projects. The average age of the attendees was maybe 6. After only one parent finishing the project within the hour I was there. I left like others with an unimpressive unattractive unfinished lawnmower. A thought came to me to just finish it at home. I asked for wood glue, and a Red Vest bc my daughter to place her badge on it, and if I could purchase the hammer. This an added to an additional 40 mins to an hour of just frustration. I would not recommend anyone to go to this workshop unless you want to participate yourself.

Alachua Farm & Lumber is a fun store to peruse as they have such a large variety of stuff to look…read morethrough, most of which you're not going to get at a store like Lowes. The main categories of product they sell are: lumber, archery/guns, feed/seed, fishing equipment, clothing, and hardware. If you're looking for a dedicated store that specializes in just one of these product areas, thus having a bigger selection, you might not find what you need. They have a good enough selection though to meet most people's needs. I generally shop here for feed and seed. For seed you can buy in bulk towards the back of the store in the hardware department. The lady that runs the back of the store is extremely helpful and always such a pleasant person to have been helped by. I've had good luck growing what I've purchased from them. The only feed I buy is chicken feed. For the most part the feed has been good, except for it coming with bugs occasionally. The quality of their chicks appears to have gone down over the years though (or we've just had bad luck). This is more of a supplier problem than a problem with AF&L. We buy small batches of chicks each year, and last year half died before growing to maturity due to defects (cross bill, etc). This year we've had to start buying chicks elsewhere. Like a lot of places in Alachua, the hours are not ideal for customers who work an 8-5. They are open briefly in the mornings on Saturday, which is usually the only time I'm able to shop here. There have been many a weekend where I had to drive to Tractor Supply in Jonesville, because Alachua Farm and Lumber wasn't open. Extended weekend hours would be nice as I'd prefer to buy local than at the competition. If you're the kind of person that enjoys visiting mom & pop style hardware stores to see what neat little things you'll find, then you should give AF&L a visit.

True Value hardware & outdoor Power Equip - One of the "new spindles" they charged me for over 150$

True Value hardware & outdoor Power Equip

Unbelievable!! I'm shocked this shop is still in business…read more I am a pharmacist of 8 years now, grew up with parents who run a few small businesses and let me tell you.. my experience with this place has been nothing short of a nightmare. I purchased what was supposed to be a "deal of a lifetime"--a 2006 Dixie Chopper for $3,000 out the door. It had a new motor and seemed like a great buy at first. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disaster. The owner, Gary, presents himself as the nicest guy, but it's all an act. Be cautious--he'll say anything to make a sale. Always get everything in writing because if you don't, you'll end up paying far more than you expect. In my case, I was misled into paying for repairs on issues that should have been addressed before the mower was sold. Here's my story: Gary made grandiose claims about the mower, saying things like, "This mower retails for over $16,000,"(I've had it listed on FB Marketplace for $3900 for months now and no bites, and there are several newer models on there for less money). "You'll never ride a better mower," and "You'll be overjoyed with this machine." Excited, we bought it, but my excitement quickly faded. * Day one: I turned on the blades and immediately noticed a loud, harsh vibration. Upon inspection, I found the spindles were rusted out (I have photos to prove it added below). * Day two: The mower wouldn't start. The shop came to pick it up, but even they struggled to get it running. Weeks passed while they claimed to be troubleshooting a wiring issue. They eventually installed a relay switch. * I also reported the spindle problem, but Gary brushed it off as "just surface rust" and said they had already been inspected. After pressing him, I offered to buy new spindles myself for $150. Gary assured me they'd handle it. A week later, he admitted one or more spindles was completely destroyed and it's good thing they replaced them. (See pics of before and after below, you can barely tell which is which). Repairs dragged on for weeks. Every time I called, there was a new issue: belts, pulleys, you name it. When they finally delivered the mower back to me, I assumed the repairs were covered given that I had received no quote and had purchased a mower they claimed was in good condition. Imagine my shock when I got a voicemail a month later from Gary saying I owed $935! They never provided an estimate, never sought my approval for repairs, never gave me an itemized receipt, and were clearly charging me for problems they should have resolved before selling the mower. When I asked for a refund, Gary claimed they didn't have the money but offered to sell the mower on their lot. After months of no progress, I confronted him. Suddenly, he claimed he had given me a quote (he hadn't) and that the $935 was for spindles and labor-- see pictures below also, obviously he put used spindles on it and charged as much as he could. To make matters worse, he told me he had a buyer lined up for $6,200 but would only give me $3,000 of it. Frustrated, I had to let him charge my card just to retrieve my mower, fearing he'd sell it to someone else out of spite. When I asked AGAIN for an itemized receipt, he provided me with a piece of paper that had clearly been hand written right then (no invoice). Even more interesting is it's now been a week since and magically he hasn't called with the "interested buyers" information. This shop is beyond unprofessional. They sold me a broken mower, mishandled repairs, charged me without consent, and failed to take responsibility for their mistakes. Avoid this place at all costs! If you go make sure it is in writing before you give them anything, with prices confirmed and agreed upon.

I get it! over 60$ lost a customer of over 10 years if I can add pictures of my unfinsihed project! stay away! and I'll send pics of the new pressure washer I'm buying, so if you want to avoid my mistakes you can just go buy your own!
