I really enjoy coming here. I have been here a few times; and each time I do, they have treated me with good service. They have unique soda pop flavors to choose from, among other drink options. They make a nice miso soup. The Sashimi and the sushi rolls have a high degree of quality and have always tasted fresh. This is a fairly busy location, but they handle the service with speed and quality. Always a good experience. I highly recommend.

we came by dorinku tokyo in old strathcona around 12:30 pm on friday and was seated immediately for a party of four by our personable and friendly server wendy. the place is quite big and spacious, there were a number of patrons already in the restaurant. the menu looked interesting and there were quite a few items that i had my eye on (but would have been way too much) and so we asked wendy for her recommendations. it turns out that what she recommended were the things i had my eye on. here's what we ordered: shaka shaka fries, brought to the table and shaken in a brown bag with umami seasoning powder, the fries were thin and crispy carbonara udon, with bacon and poached egg, creamy comfort food with a smooth slurping texture pressed wild salmon sushi x 2 orders, 'cause one order ain't enough chicken karaage lunch set with rice and miso soup, and accompanied with pickled daikon, chili mayo for dipping and green tea salt king salmon sashimi, subtle and fresh smoke sashimi salad with salmon, tuna, and scallop on a bed of spring mix in a black olive dressing, this was brought out and presented with smoke from a glass, visually stunning, colourful and healthy ramen salad (this was a special request that they accommodated, no longer on the menu), this was a pleasant surprise as i was skeptical, but it was executed well, the salad dressing was flavourful, and tasted like a sesame peanut sauce. i would definitely come here again, this place has a relaxed vibe, food is tasty, and meant for sharing, staff are top notch. we were comped a dessert of almond tofu, (celebrating a birthday) enough for about one spoonful each, which was perfect, as we were stuffed and the dessert was light and refreshing. dorinku tokyo is worth a visit and may just become your new fave go to japanese street food.

A super cool place that we were recommended to come and try! They have a really neat menu with a nice variety of foods and drinks, and everything we ordered was delicious! All the staff we interacted with were very friendly and our waiter was very knowledgeable and able to answer our questions! The restaurant is a pretty good size, but it doesn't take long for it to get busy! I was a fan of the way they did their lighting to give the dinning area a fancier vibe. I would like to try both locations to compare!

I come to Dorinku Tokyo a lot. It's an amazing experience! The atmosphere was lively and energetic, and the food was delicious. I started off with the pressed salmon, which melts in your mouth. For my main course, I had the pork chop and rice which was cooked to perfection. The pork chop was juicy and tender, and the rice had a nice texture. My friends love their carbonara so that's a must try ! Overall, I highly recommend Dorinku Tokyo for anyone looking for a fun and delicious dining experience! The service is great, depending when you go. t's a great spot for Japanese food! They have a variety of small plates and sushi rolls that are sure to please any palate. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out!

My favourite Japanese izakaya in the city. After living in Japan for a while I kept having cravings for Tonkatsu but not many places in the city offer a true Japanese Tonkatsu dish. Fortunately Dorinku offers a delicious Tonkatsu lunch set and a wide variety of other Japanese dishes. They've been my go to any time I miss Japan and have never disappointed. I do prefer their lunch menu over the dinner menu, but you really can't go wrong either way. Service is always friendly and food comes out decently quick! We decided to stop by on the weekend and try some ramen by Tenjin since they're having a pop up inside Dorinku Tokyo and safe to say it's probably the best ramen I've had in the city. The standard cost is $10 for Tonkotsu, Shio or Miso Ramen, and then add-ons such as extra noodles, egg, chashu, etc. range from $2-6. They had great noodle texture (no mushy noodles here!) and the broth was pretty solid. My partner did mention he wished his bowl had a bit more broth to account for all the extras that came with The Works.

The service was good. I forgot to take a photo of the udon noodles I had ordered, I ate the corn & crème brûlée as well. Portion sizes are small compared to what you pay for. It was good but I wouldn't order it again. Had someone recommend this place, and they raved about it. The food smelt so good when it came out. Also had tried a bite of the TNT, never had a pressed sushi roll, so it's more messy and mostly tasted the mayo. After eating all the food I did, left the place leaving hungry & not 100% satisfied. I think this place was overhyped for what I experienced.

OK FIRST OFF ALL. let me start off with the fact they have FULL METAL ALCHEMIST playing off a projector?? #weeeebingout Don't get me started on their fat collection of anime figurines displayed on the hallway to bathroom. I'm already won the fuck over We came straight from the airport -- so super late, super hungry, and super cold because it was -40 degrees out. Things I recommend and remember: -Pressed sushi: We got the wild salmon and the negi-toro. It was weird because ive never had pressed sushi. The salmon had a slight sear because the torched the mayo-cream sauce on top. Both were pretty good, expected more fish though. -Asari clams: bruhhhh not only the clams delicious, but the sake/garlic butter broth it was soaked in was to die for. We almost drank it like soup. It had a nice clean but delicious taste -- HONESTLY because it was freakin half butter, and who doesnt like butter -Mt Fuji Alberta AAA steak: Steak comes on top of a rock plate made from Mt Fuji (idk if its real but whatever). We got it medium rare, perfect pink middle, melt in mouth goodness we ordered some other stuff, but those were my favorites! Pass on the corn-kale thing though. lmao too healthy-tastinggg Beware though, we did come hungry, so for a tapas-style meal, it did get a bit pricey. It gets pretty crowded and kind of loud, especially since we got a pitcher to DORINKUUUU Overall, really cool place! I wish I was in Edmonton more to visit and try more of their dishes

Tokyo Cocktail and Lychee Cocktail both were very tasty, the lychee was a little sweet for my taste but I loved the tartness of the tokyo

I stopped in for a quick lunch today, I ordered the TNT pressed sushi which was absolutely delicious! The service was very quick and friendly especially for how busy they were with 1 server working. I was sitting by the bar and it was really cool to see some of the really interesting bottles on the shelf. I've been before for dinner (which was also delicious) and look forward to going back again, maybe with a group so I could try more things haha

I checked out @dorinkutokyo while I was in Edmonton last week. This is a Japanese street food joint. I ordered several starters: Tako wasabi (wasabi octopus with seaweed) -2nd fav. Really liked the freshness of all the elements and the crunch with the seaweed. Corn kale kakiage (corn & kale tempura fritter in butter soy sauce)- my least favorite. It was nice but nothing striking. Tomato kimchi- my favourite . Never would I thought of this combination of fresh tomatoes with kimchi spices on a bed of salad. This was gone in 5 seconds. Total star of the meal. For my main course: I had the Dorinku miso ramen (10 hour slow cooked pork in chicken broth), pork Cheshire, radish sprouts, green onions, egg was extra) with thin egg noodles. I enjoyed it as the meat was tender and the flavours were subtle but rich. This was a great spot to try something new. Definitely different from the Montreal places I have been too. The dining area was really nicely decorated, looking forward to my next trip and also when lockdown will end.

    Pork miso soup

Great establishment, very accommodating. Right after partying would be a good place to grab some freshly cooked hot ramen. My group and I ordered some fried pork skin with what I remember was tempura. Very good start as our appetizers. Completed our meal with some miso soup, later added some boiled eggs. Recommend to grab the spices, I believe was Japanese seaweed salt. I can't quite remember. But it does add the kicked that we all need sometimes. Takoyaki is always a must for me when going to a Japanese or inspired restaurant. Was 5 stars, very filling and creamy.

Over the past decade izakaya-style restaurants landed in Edmonton and the city has never looked back. These informal Japanese bars filled with alcoholic drinks and tasty snacks might just be the ideal way for Edmontonians to sink into this particular culture. Think "Irish pub," except Japanese. Open since 2016, Old Strathcona's (technically located in CPR Irvine) Dorinku (meaning drink in Japanese) attempts to capture the perfect Tokyo atmosphere - and they accomplish this extremely well. Voted #1 Best Japanese 2018 by VUE Weekly and with me being a major fan of Japan myself (I traveled there in 2016) this restaurant was high on my must-try list. Walking into the restaurant on a Saturday evening (reservations are recommended), I was practically giddy at the flawless embodiment of Tokyo in this space. It looks exactly like places that I have been to - in actual Japan. In fact, the vibe reminded me an awful lot of a casual gyoza shop that I visited in Harajuku. Entering under a series of red chōchin (lanterns) you will be greeted immediately by the staff shouting "irashaimase!" in your general direction. This exuberant welcome is absolutely authentic. Seated at our table, I began to take stock of everything that made this space so incredible. From the J-Pop playing over the speakers, to the complete slew of perfect memorabilia, this restaurant is a narrow Tokyo back alley in every sense. The dark wood, concrete walls, and moody atmosphere play the part. Complete with amazing graffiti-style street art on the walls. I was very excited to find a Pachinko machine and then even more excited to discover a beverage vending machine (serving both hot and cold drinks). There are anime figurines in cases (Sailor Moon, of course) and there are even robot toilets in the bathroom. They couldn't have done a better job with this place if they tried. It is actually Japan. Being an izakaya, you've gotta drink. They've got all the sake and shochu and plum wine that you could want. I was extremely curious about the hot chocolate sake (complete with mini marshmallows) but found myself in the Cocktail section and clearly had to order the Tokyo (Vodka, grapefruit juice, Sprite, cherry blossom - $8.80) to stay with the theme. The presentation and attention to detail in this beverage alone demonstrated the same level of care that you'll find in Japan - an excellent sign. The three triangular slices of grapefruit were frozen and fused together to create the cutest garnish. A lively and refreshing drink, it really did remind me of sakura season. The food menu has everything. All of the best stuff. There was also an extensive specials menu that somehow offered even more. Bluefin tuna? They even have that. I was really impressed by all of the creativity that I was finding within the menu. Sushi served on a 4 foot long bridge? SURE! This is the kind of stuff that makes dining an experience. I decided to order a whole whack of stuff in an attempt to sample a bunch of different things. Our friendly server was delivering the goods to our table in the blink of an eye! First, the Dorinku Appetizer Platter (7 kinds of daily chef's selection - $16.30) from the Snack + Share section seemed like a great opportunity to try a variety of items. Apparently only available in limited quantities each day, I was glad to get my hands on one. Each little dish was filled with something unique and I enjoyed sampling each one. From the tako wasabi with chopped octopus and wasabi dressing (it packed a punch!!). To the tuna tataki with lightly seared tuna sashimi with onions, citrus sesame soy sauce and housemade chili oil. To the beef tataki with lightly seared and sliced AAA tenderloin and oriental chili dressing. I really loved the pickled daikon, which was simple yet excellent. Another of the items seemed to be deep fried tuna with a luscious mayonnaise. This was a really nice way to sample many different flavours. I've heard good things about the chicken karaage and would like to try it on my next visit! Next was our "wild card" item, the Carbonara Udon (Japanese udon noodles, creamy carbonara sauce, bacon, grated parmesan, poached egg, scallion, served in a hot stone bowl - $14.80) from the Noodle section. Arriving piping hot, frothing and bubbling, this mass of molten cheese and noodles enchanted me immediately. Upon stirring the contents of the bowl together, I was even more impressed to find a runny egg in the bottom of the dish and watched as swirls of golden yolk combined with the creamy sauce like ribbons. I don't think that I expected this dish to work as well as it did. The thick udon noodles bathed in a cheesy, ultra-creamy sauce... Plus bacon. This was a wonderful example of fusion cuisine done just right. I simply had to try the Aburi Shime Saba (Whole filet of cured mackerel, seared in front of you - $14.80) from the Sashimi section since I'm a major fan of mackerel. Unfortunately, this was not seared in front of me but I did see some flam

And after our dinner, this place will be pretty difficult to beat. We came here for our anniversary dinner. My boyfriend put in a reservation earlier, and once we arrived we were seated pretty quickly. It was a Monday night but I was so surprised at how packed the place was. This was our first time here so the server explained how ordering on the slip works. Wait time wasn't terrible. And like I mentioned before, this place was so packed and full of people. All the servers that night were weaving through aisles, delivering food, and taking orders. They were all hustling. Food was delicious. We started off with a couple of rolls like California Rolls, Avocado, Tuna, Salmon, and Tamago. The sushi rolls were pretty small, but I didn't have a problem with it. Since it's AYCE, I knew that we'd have much more food coming. I was very impressed by the quality of fish. It tasted very fresh. Also we ordered the seared Beef Nigiri and that was delicious. We ended up ordering more of that later. For the next round, we ordered Edamame, Beef (? it was like a beef galbi cut but I forgot the name of it on the menu), Chicken Skewers, Green Onion Cake, and Tempura. For our Tempura veggies we chose pumpkin, yam, and eggplant. I loved the tempura. It was definitely a highlight of the night. The batter was very crispy, light, and all the tempura came out hot. It was wonderful. We ended up getting more after the first round of tempura because it was too good. The Chicken Skewers were phenomenal. My boyfriend and I were saying that if we had the Chicken Skewers with rice, that would just be enough. The flavor of the sauce was great: savory, slightly sweet, it was reminiscent of a teriyaki flavor for me. And lastly, we had the BC Roll, Alberta Roll, Crunchy Roll, Philadelphia Roll, the seared Beef Nigiri again, and a few other rolls. At this point of the dinner we barely had any steam left but somehow we managed. Every single we thing we ate was just amazing. I wasn't disappointed by anything we ordered actually it was just great. I will say the Crunchy Roll had this smokiness that scratched my brain in the best way possible and I was so impressed by that bite. This was such an unforgettable experience and the best place we've spent our anniversary haha. 10/10, take my money. To Sushi Toshi, I'll be thinking about you.

So what made it that great that my dad would give it such a high review? First, if you've never seen an advertisement for this place, prepare yourself for ongoing talking and some well rehearsed comedy from the chefs. There literally is a live cooking show being done with your meals right in front of you. This combination of humour and meal prep was a big hit for my family (the 5 of us were constantly commenting on how things were being cooked, what was new to us and encouraging the ongoing trials of the fork toss plus the salt and pepper tossing trick by the chef). Second, it might be a Japanese place but they have steak! You may have guessed with my intro but that was an important decision factor in choosing a restaurant. We wanted a different place for the early Christmas family gathering but something everyone could enjoy. Third, they're very diligent about respecting allergies. My sister-in-law gets very ill with her allergies. So it's nice not having to worry. They set her food specifically on one area of the grill and no other food was ever placed there. Hers was never combined with the rest of ours either. They also had a different soup for her to enjoy and did a vinaigrette on her salad instead of the house dressing. The food itself is a decent price for a fine dining experience and what you get with the dinner. There's soup, salad, grilled shrimp, grilled veggies and whatever you choose as your main. All with great flavour and you get two different dipping sauces - one being better for meat and other with vegetables. Obviously if you select the options of more seafood to accompany the main piece of the meal, the price is more expensive. We all kept it pretty simple. Two with shrimp dinners, two with New York steaks and one with teriyaki beef. We were all quite happy with our portions and if you feel you need extra rice, they will bring more out. If you have saved a bit of room, there's lots of dessert options too but that comes with an additional price. I really was quite happy with that large selection of mocktails to try but for those that want it, there's a large selection of mixed alcoholic drinks, wine, beer, etc. The place is accessible from the outside doors to the grill tables and even though my brother struggles to see in dim lighting, there's enough random lighting that we found a well lit spot at the table for him. I liked that I didn't have to watch for random levels or steps. There are a few booths throughout the restaurant for those that maybe want a more secluded meal but there's no grills for those spots. So after such a glowing review, why am I only giving it 4 stars? Well as I had booked ahead of time and specifically gave a number of 5 people for the reservation, it would have been nice to know we would not have anything started to be cooked, nor our meal order taken until they fill the rest of the table around the grill. If I had that information, I could have easily invited a couple of friends to join. However as this came to us as surprise, it meant even though we didn't know who was joining us, we were forced to awkwardly wait over 15 min to have them arrive and then start giving our order when they were ready. At least some of the drinks had made it out by then but the place was starting to fill up so the noise level was increasing. Luckily for us my mom randomly know the couple that was sat at our grill table but there were parts of the dinner you could tell they would have enjoyed having their own time as a couple (as I'm quite sure they weren't informed they'd be part of a bigger table being that they were surprised that my mom thanked them for arriving on time so we can now order when they are ready). It would have also been a different experience for my family too without the combined table situation. I had to remind the chef who's steak was being prepared due to the over eager guy wanting a well done steak the same time as a medium rare... Things eventually got served to everyone but only because I spoke up, I was able to get near to what I had requested (glad that my dad at least got his medium rare) even though everyone had reconfirmed orders when the chef was placing the meat on the grill. Lastly, the noise in the restaurant was so high at the end of our meal that not only did my dad stop trying to have a conversation but so did the rest of us. So instead of savouring dessert, I ate it quickly as all I wanted was to pay the bill fast and just leave the noise. I've gone once before on a week night back in April and it was more manageable for noise level. This being due to not all grills were full nor was the restaurant as full.

I didn't even know Sherwood Park has a Japanese Village and I hadn't been to one in about 15 years. We had 14 in our group but this wasn't an issue as we were all able to all sit around two grills with two grill cooks. Our server did a great job of taking our drink orders, filling up our water glasses and making sure we were happy. I personally started with a pint of their house beer and the Tuna Sashimi. Both were tasty. For my main course I had Teppan - Yaki Dinner (Teriyaki Chicken) It came with soup, salad and green tea. Our grill cook was a nice young man who brought a smile to our face and kept us chuckling. For the value, I was happy with my meal, the price I payed and the fun interacting with our cook. I would definitely go back with a group of friends.

An ad for this had come up on my instagram a few months ago. I had bookmarked this to try out one of these days as the food looked good and I also heard good things about it. As my friend and I had plans in Leduc I figured it would be nice to stop here for dinner. I like how their booths are all private. There is a call button in the booth so that you can ring them anytime you need service. They also have the wifi password taped onto the wall in the both. The service was very prompt as soon as we pressed the button someone arrived within 1 minute. The staff was very kind and attentive. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Saturday night which was kind of nice. They have a pretty decent sized menu with a variety of options. I love how they have photos of each roll and list which rolls are fully cooked and which ones aren't. We ordered the sexy mexican roll, volcano roll, and the scallop extravaganza. All were delicious! The fish was very fresh as was the rice. Each roll was a good size and packed with flavour. The price was pretty on par with all sushi places. Although I didn't order this, the tempura pieces were massive from the orders I saw that went out. This is definitely a place I'll become a regular at. They have two locations (Edmonton south and Leduc)
