It has been a few years so I have no legal recourse but when I got my front door conversion installed, I noticed that they installed the wrong glass. I had ordered Chinchilla and I got what looks like old-fashioned shower door glass. Jodie told me she would replace it when the glass became available or I could change it to another that I liked better. After time passed, she changed the deal to say I would have to pay for the glass. Now she says that I would have to pay for the glass and the labor to the tune of $450. This is not good business practice. I love the door and the workmanship was good but I HATE the glass. If I decide to change the glass I would go somewhere else and I would not recommend them. read more

The process was easy measurements were taken and when parts were ready the conversion was done on site . When I had a glitch it was attended to immediately and resolved. Wanted to post this review of a local business so that others won't be taken advantage of like we were. We first met with the folks from Door Conversions at the Almaden Art & Wine Festival. They were friendly, local (in Campbell), and their "hand-forged, hinged-glass wrought iron" front doors were just beautiful. We decided to start with our side lights, as they advertised windows with metal work and screens so you could open them to get a nice breeze. Yale, their salesman, came to our house where we showed him exactly what we wanted, from their "The Metal Series" brochure, including the design of the metal work. I even provided him with a picture. We were then emailed a quote and gave them our $2700 deposit, but found out that the door inserts would be made in Mexico (so much for local craftsmanship). We were also informed that they could only send in an order when they had reached a certain number, so we would have to wait many more weeks than originally promised. MONTHS later, when we were informed that our inserts had finally arrived, we met with Jodie at their warehouse. Our inserts had no wrought iron in them at all - they were just metal framed windows. Jodie informed us that our contract stated we'd ordered the "Sonata" model, which has no wrought iron. We told her that the only reason we'd contacted their company was BECAUSE of their wrought iron doors, and that I'd provided Yale with a picture of exactly what we wanted. We didn't have any idea what the "Sonata" model even meant. We asked that Yale get in touch with us to correct the error, and the months long skirmish continued. We repeatedly requested that Yale contact us, which he never did. We met with Jodie again, and were told that our windows were too narrow for any wrought iron work. This was patently ridiculous, as unless Yale had mis-measured, there was plenty of room for what we wanted (as Yale himself told us). Again, we requested that Yale meet or talk with us again, but still no contact. Finally fed up, we canceled our order and requested our money back. We were told that we could only have $1000 of our deposit returned, as they had already ordered the inserts from Mexico. We feel truly scammed and hugely disappointed. Would not recommend that ANYONE use this business. Their products are NOT local, their customer service is non-existent, and their promises are not kept. Beware! read more

After seeing DC South Bay at a recent home & garden show & liking the look of the product, my brother & I got in contact with Yale Proctor about the possibility of collaborating with him on an insert for my front door. Not wanting to replace my whole door, we opted for an insert that would serve as a security measure as well as a great tool for quickly ventilating the house with nice cross breezes when the insert door was open. Working with Yale was a pleasure as he is very knowledgeable about his craft & suggested great ideas to combine with ours, to ultimately come up with a product that was even nicer than what I had in mind, using a design that my brother came up with. Its security factor is what we were originally looking for in being able to open that door first to see who is knocking, vs. opening the front door without knowing who was on the other side. Built with a screen to keep the bugs out, its other functions are great as well. When left open & combined with the other open windows plus the whole house fan going, the house is cooled down in minutes, saving on elevated bills for using our AC! Additionally, it has lit up my entryway where there was minimal light before. Door Conversions South Bay & Yale specifically, were able to provide a solution that allowed me to have a newly re-imagined front door without buying a whole new front door! And at a fraction of the cost of a brand new door. LOVE LOVE LOVE our new door!!! At our previous home, we had a screen door that stayed in place when our front door was open. However, at our new place, I preferred having more security, but not necessarily having those big security doors in place. Door conversions was the perfect solution! Stay away from Yale, The reason i'm waiting for this long and gave 1 star because I was hoping Yale will keep his promise to fix the door for me but not. I have my door converted some time last year, but within the first two months I noticed there was some moisture in between the glass panel. So I contact Yale and he said will order new panel and will have it ready within 3 weeks, three weeks went by nothing from him, I contact him again and he said will come out next week.. a week went by nothing from him again, no phone call or email. I paid him 1.2k for his service in return I got a defect door.... very upset, unprofessional and potential customer please think twice about changing your door. here is email his email that he sent to me last year. I did some minor remodeling in my living room which resulted in my entry hall being very dark. I looked at so many options including buying a different door - but that was too expensive and I had a high quality fiberglass door already. I found Jodie at Door Conversions and even during Covid she made a way for me to privately and safely visit the showroom - and came up with a perfect solution for my dark entry hall. Due to Covid impact on their suppliers, Jodie said lead times would be much longer than usual so it took a couple of months to schedule but I was fine with that. Yale came last month and installed the glass and I absolutely love it! The natural light is PERFECT. He showed up on time, wore a mask, was super friendly and explained everything - he completed the full install and adjustments in just a few hours. Every time I walk by the door over the past month, I say "I'm SO happy I did this." I highly recommend these guys and so appreciate the beautiful glass in my door! I would have loved to put a 5-star review on my beautiful new door, but after a year and a half of delays, not answering emails, not returning phone calls, not following up, and then messing up the order two times, I encourage folks who want even minimal customer service to find another vendor. Even at the end, when I asked to escalate (because it was going to be another 8-week delay), Jodie said, "I'll just send your deposit back." Via Text! She couldn't be bothered to call me (and she is a co-owner of the business!) to say how sorry she was, just a quick text and moving along. They did a great job two years ago and made a huge difference in our remodel. Recently, we had one of doors shattered, which was not any of their fault. The glass is tempered so it was small little pieces and nothing dangerous. We called them up and they installed it quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up the area and it was as good as new.
