To echo other 1-star reviews on here- the owner was extremely rude on the phone when asked simple questions about a shipment of skylights that were running multiple days late for our house. His daughter, Elki, who handled our particular case, was also extremely rude on the phone. Insinuating that the reason for delay may have been a truck that broke down, but they had no interest in finding out. Only after I spent about an hour on the phone with their supplier and Elki did I find out the skylights were sitting in a warehouse in San Leandro, ready for install and all they needed was the correct paperwork. Great. Our contractor was never notified of this, and it led to multiple days of delays. He was willing to pick them up as soon as they were available, but he did not know where they were, because A-Z didn't offer this very important information to him on the phone. These people are extremely unprofessional. I source a lot of components from China and I would be fired if I spoke to a customer the way they spoke to me on the phone. Doing a remodel and i was looking to purchase windows. This is one place i came across. My review for this business is DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM I was treated and disrespected by these guys because i had several questions about ordering windows. When i say disrespected i mean i was called several four letter words, only because i asked questions. One of the guys said" what the fuck do you want"? The request was a bit special because of the unusual configuration we were looking for, but Barbara at A-Z Windows was incredibly helpful in making sure we got the order correct and working with the vendor on my behalf to make sure they were on time and delivered the right product. The call lasted about 1 minute so it wasn't like I was taking up a ton of his time, he was fed up with me before I even opened my mouth. I'm not sure A-Z does skylight installation or service, it seems like they really only handle sales of the skylights and make referrals for installation and service. This review is more about the quality of their referrals, which admittedly was free so I guess I got what I paid for. (Though presumably they refer contractors who do purchase skylights from them, so perhaps they did profit from me.) I reached out to A-Z because it seemed like they did skylight installation and service based on the pictures and some of the review comments. (And their "verified by business" service offerings.) Instead all I got were referrals, the first one mislead me about being able to help me with the carpentry part of a skylight project (and charged me a fairly high price for a very small amount of work to replace skylights) then kicked me back to A-Z for a referral on the part of the job I reached out to him for. That second referral was pretty awful, I did end up using that contractor based on A-Z's referral (despite some reservations due to mixed bag of yelp ratings and difficulties getting them to even send me a bid.) and have since recommended to A-Z they never refer that person again due to how much of a mess the whole job was. (Along with my property after they "completed" the job.) So maybe they are good place to buy skylights, but would not recommend their contractor referral services at all. read more

The owner has treated me unfairly and been extremely rude to me. He specifically yelled at me saying that: "go and post it on Yelp". So here you go. I initially bought 4 solar tubes from them and the experience has been good. Both the owner Chris and his father Joe were friendly and helpful. And then at the time I handed the cash and was picking up the product and I found that one of the box has been opened and the package had that kind of distressed look. I asked Joe if this is new and he said yes. I said OK cause I trust these guys. The next day when I met the contractors and start to open the packages but found that the plastic films had been peeled off on both of the tube segments in the opened box solar tube. What's worse is that there are scratches and residues on the inside. I immediately felt that this one should be a returned item. I called up Joe and told him the fact. He said OK that I can get a replacement. Alright I made a trip to the store and the whole nightmare started. Joe grabbed a brand new segment of the solar tube and tried to convince me that there is no difference of how much light would go in between a new one and the one has scratches and residues. I said I understand that but I am not convinced that you sold me a returned item but told me it was brand new. The he grabbed his son and his son started to insult me, saying that I was being unreasonable blablabla. And yelled at my face "this is what you will get. Don't get me pissed". Come on man! Who was being unreasonable? It was you guys that gave me a returned product with wears already on it. You didn't offer any apology but insult me on my face. If this is the way you treat your customer, I hope I shouldn't have ever come to your store. My suggestion is that avoid this place and just stick with Homedepot or Lowe's and buy stuff there. At least you will not have any one insult you and end up with new products which have wears on them. read more

I am extremely happy with A-Z Windows. Rick Silva was referred to me by a friend who recently built their home and windows were supplied by A-Z. Even though they came to me by personal referral, I like to get 3 quotes on everything. So I had 2 other well known companies come out to quote as well. I insisted on Milgard Windows, but one company pushed another MFR on me and the other company told me Milgard delivery lead times were out 8-10 weeks. Crazy. Rick with A-Z came out and went through the MFR options, style options etc. In the end, I still insisted on Milgard so he wrote up a quote for Milgard. Delivery time was 3 weeks! Pricing was right in line with the other quotes, if not slightly lower. He got me the windows I wanted, in less than half the delivery time the other distributors quoted. I was pretty pleased with this. Bottom line: pricing is competitive, delivery was on time (exactly to the day) and my Milgard windows are beautiful!! read more

Needed couple of 22 inch tubular skylight, while home depot and lowes needs a special order for it. Called Joe (the owner) to see if they carried them in-stock, and was very surprised that a mom and pop store would carry them and not the big name stores. Joe saved me almost 200 bucks buying it through them, and did I mention that, Joe, was funny as hell when I drove up to his store? I was referred to A-Z by the roofer who was going to install skylights into my new roof. I was exceedingly pleased by the owner Joe and his son. They promptly found the two different skylights I needed in their inventory, and loaded them into my truck. When I went to pay, I found that they only took cash or checks. I didn't have enough cash and I did not have my checkbook with me. Their solution: Take the skylights with you, here's a bill, mail us a check later. I'm 64 years old and remember that maybe in the 1960's someone might, just might, trust a customer with $1100 of merchandise. But certainly not in the last four decades. (When I went home I made out the check and drove to the post office to immediately mail. Trust deserves equal diligence on my part!) A-Z is a family-owned and operated business. As you can see, entirely trustworthy. I would personally not pay much attention to someone who says they found them otherwise... I needed a skylight replaced in my townhome. The rains were coming and the job urgent and I made the mistake of trying to make it work with a roofing company that strung me along for 4 weeks before pulling out. Most roofing companies were'nt interested in such a small job so I called A-Z in a panic. Joe was very responsive, had two of his installers call me the same day to schedule a time for them to come look at the property, give me a quote. Joe is the owner and he is a referral based business and gives personalized services to his clients. I found a window installer through Yelp (not related to A-Z) and they provided Joe the incorrect specs for the window replacement and installed a window without grids when the rest of the windows in the house had grids. The installer ran off. Joe went above and beyond and ordered the right window and came out with his own installer and replaced it at no charge. This is a business that takes care of their customers. We ordered windows for a brand new home and had them installed in 2015. Everything was fine up front. I called in January 2017 as 3 of the windows installed do not close and we have water leaking because of this. Rick, the person who answered the phone was very short with me. When I explained we purchased Milgard windows through them, that the windows are brand new - Rick asked me, "what was the date we installed" I told him, early 2015 - he went on to say in a very rude tone and manner "THOSE ARE NOT NEW WINDOWS!". I was taken back by this - and went into it with him. Why would we purchase $23K in Milgard windows through this company to be treated this way when all I need is someone to come out and fix the problem/ I purchased Milgard for the Lifetime Warranty. I would NEVER refer this company because of Rick. He is extremely rude, terrible customer service. Too bad - the owner, Joe & his son, Chris are super cool and very nice. I would have given 3 or 4 stars if I had only dealt with Joe or Chris but because of Rick and his terrible attitude - the company is receiving 1 star. read more

Just fantastic service. We bought a dozen skylights for a new house from A-Z 4 years ago. Recently, the glass cracked on one skylight for some unknown reason. A-Z has been wonderful helping us with replacement glass. Apparently, the window is out of warranty and the A-Z owner just paid for the replacement glass out his own pocket. Then the manufacturer sent the wrong size (no fault of A-Z) and the owner volunteered to deliver the corrected size personally. Their prices were great, but the service (long after the sale) is better than I have ever experienced. read more
