Thrilled & relieved that Donut Wheel still had a wide array of flavors available half an hour before closing time. Though their display case was understandably bare (glad to see business is good!), I was able to get a great selection of regular-sized donuts & larger, premium ones (think: cinnamon roll, apple fritter, twists, etc.) I had a few bites of a maple bar (which I so regret not getting filled with custard), as well as a glazed old fashioned donut. Pleased with how fresh & non-greasy they tasted. Personable service from the woman assisting us. She explained which donuts can be piped with custard, lemon, chocolate, or cherry filling. I've been here happily a few times in the early morning and appreciate the friendly, attentive service and the delicious variety of donuts and baked goods! The place is always clean and the cashiers carefully and hygienically pack up my dozen donuts. They have other meat items, but I haven't tried any of these yet. Great fresh raised glazed donut. Enjoyed the soft chew classic. They have a crumb round which has a fantastic cinnamon crumb exterior with soft chewy middle. Perfectly cooked and prepared. I was up early grabbing breakfast with a friend on the way back to her house. We had seen what looked like an old vintage style donut shop and decided to pull in. It was about 5:30am on a Monday and when we pulled up we were greeted by two other cars that also had arrived for donuts at the exact same time. The hours read 4:30am-Noon or "until sold out". I thought that was actually pretty cool. I walked in and the decor matched that of something that was from the 70's and had not been touched. I ordered a Glazed Donut and a Fruity Pebbles donut and took it to go. Pricepoint was totally fair and I was off to my car to devour these tasty treats. Hands down best donuts in town. That being said... don't expect much, if anything, left at Donut Wheel by 9 AM.... They are consistently sold out early. Really disappointing. My retired friends and I would love to meet at 10 AM for donuts and coffee here but they're always nearly sold out or closed already by then. So we take our business elsewhere... The donut wheel owners must be doing just fine only making the amount of donuts that they do. Thus allowing them to close up shop early since they've been there all night making the donuts. Meanwhile the Donut Nook just down East Ave. will have donuts supplied all morning. Donut Wheel really should consider just changing their posted business hours. Yum, this is the go to donut spot for me in Chico. The reasons why this spot in particular stands out is because the friendly service and fresh donuts. They do run out of certain kinds throughout the day as customers order them but oh well, pick one of the donuts available and you'll be pleased you did. My favorites are the classic donuts holes and the fritters (blueberry, apple, lemon) all three are delicioso. I have always gotten my donuts from this little shop. But since the innovation of extra people in Chico now, they have not stepped up their production or service to meet the needs of extra customers. Every time my husband or I go there now they have ran out and they think you'll be happy with whatever they have left. Just for their knowledge - there is Raleys and Savmore that has donuts near by. I love the Donut Wheel. If they weren't 20 miles away from our home I would go there every day. As it is I make it at least two to three times a week. They have a great selection of donuts, pastries and crescent rolls. My personal favorite is the ham and cheese crescent with jalapeños. Great donuts! They actually make crullers which some other places do but just in shape, not the specific dough. The ham and cheese croissant is pretty good too. When I have been in since the pandemic the staff has worn masks and changed up how they do things to limit contact with the boxes and such. Their prices are unbeatable, their donuts amazing, their coffee is really good, and their staff is super friendly. The first time I went over there, it was a little later in the morning. Favorite donut place now. Wow these were so good. Don't like when they're all doughy it gets too much for a sweet. These are nice and crunchy and baked well. They taste so delicious. The chocolate is really good too and not too much. I'm less is more typically and these have probably a average amount of frosting but it's not overwhelming at all like some places where it gets gross fast. You know, like eating cookie dough.
