The absolute BEST Boston Cream Chocolate Donut…read more You guys.... Seriously, I INHALED this thing! Thankfully I only got one because I would've eaten 2 and I don't even eat bread It was light, fluffy, the chocolate icing was just right, the Boston cream filling was so creamy, not too sweet... it's perfection. The glazed doughnut was also really good!

I am truly amazed at how I can be completely unaware of a place that is not only around the corner…read morefrom my apartment but also along my daily commute to and from work until I read about it randomly in some blog post or newsletter. Thanks to KQED Late Night Eats, arguably the best food blog ever, I learned about SH Hawaiian Barbeque and Donuts and decided to stop by here when I was finishing late from work and on my way back home. I love Hawaiian food and got a few different items so I could sample a variety. It's important to mention that you are not getting the best Hawaiian food of your life when coming here. However, for a place that is open late, the food is pretty decent. I also got a couple of donuts and they tasted as good as the ones you would get from Krispy Kreme or any generic donut shop. Although I didn't order any, they also have have some Chinese options, which, again, look similar to what you would get at Panda Express. As someone who often finishes late from work, I enjoy having options for places to eat that don't just serve fast food. Again, you aren't getting five star dining here but if you want some decent Hawaiian food or donuts to satisfy your late night cravings then this place is a great option.

The employee acknowledged me only by nodding, but after I waited, she called me to the counter and handed me the food packaged to go. When I reminded her that I had already explained I would be eating there, she responded with what felt like a dismissive smile and simply said, "So sorry." As soon as I sat down and opened the bag, she came out from behind the counter and began cleaning the already-clean tables, even though I was the only customer. Throughout the meal, I also felt as though I was being watched from behind the counter. Whether intentional or not, the entire interaction made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the food did not improve the experience. The meat was dry, bland, and difficult to eat. I ultimately left most of the meal unfinished and decided to leave. I do not expect exceptional treatment--only basic courtesy, clear communication, and properly prepared food. Based on both the service and the quality of my meal, I will not be returning.

I generally hate artificial colors and try pretty hard to avoid them, but every once in a while, you have to make an exception. This would have been worth it if the donuts with the artificial colors were actually edible. They were a waste of money because they all tasted absolutely vile (one star off for this). Krispy Kreme is just fantastic if you stick to the original flavors. It's fun, nostalgic, delicious, and pretty much guaranteed to make a Saturday morning feel special.

The new line control and ordering setup was pretty confusing when walking in. And with how popular this place gets, it can feel even more cramped because of the way they want the lines to form. I get what they were trying to do, but I honestly think the flow worked better before. The kitchen is SO big, I feel like it took up a lot of the space. There are also these big menu signs for the deli side, but unless you're standing right in front of them to order, it's pretty hard to get a good look. The line dividers and people waiting in line block the view. I have yet to actually order from the deli, though, so I guess that gives me something to try next time! Roger's is a local spot for me, so I'll definitely still stop by whenever I need my donut fix. I'll be back, but I'm not sold on the new setup yet.

They had a few tables and chairs inside and outside should you choose to stay to enjoy your drinks and mochi donuts. The pink wall and decor makes it a very Instagram-friendly backdrop. Ordering was easy enough: there are 2 kiosks at the front as soon as you walk into the shop. There's no need to actually talk to any of the staff. They weren't particularly friendly, but they also weren't rude. They were just there, minding their business, which was a welcomed change because I had already been feeling overstimulated after visiting with a lot of people. I ordered the Strawberry Green Tea with no toppings. The sweetness level couldn't be adjusted. So it was a tad bit too sweet for my liking, but it was still okay. I did end up diluting it a little bit with water when there was enough room in the cup. I wanted to try a mochi donut, but decided against it because they didn't have flavors that I wanted to try. Overall, decent experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way.
