Best experience I've ever had with a service provider. I recently moved to Napa. Our new house had a pool that was sitting unused for a year while the house was being renovated. I wanted two primary things - to convert the pool to salt water and install a new control panel that would allow me manage the pool and hot tub from my phone. I had 3 different pool companies give me bids. The other 2 companies kept telling me how a new control panel would require all these additional changes (a new pump, a new pool sweep, etc.) because they wouldn't be compatible. When I got the estimates from all 3, Don's was thousands of dollars less expensive. I also wanted to begin regular pool maintenance service. I'll mention Paradise by name, because their estimate was ridiculously high and they also wanted to charge me a one time $1,000 fee (to make sure the chemistry was ok) before beginning pool maintenance. In comparison, Tad, the owner of Don's came by to give the estimate and adjusted my pool chemistry without asking and before I even chose them. The updates to the pool equipment went in without a hitch. Now, the new control panel sends a text to both me and Don's if an issue arises. I got a text that the pool level was a bit low. Before I could even check in with Don's, Tad sent me a text that he had taken care of it. I cannot recommend Don's Pool and the owner Tad more highly read more

I am writing regarding service at the store. I had an awful experience buying a clamp for water filter online (at another store) in which the part I bought was defective and that owner wouldn't exchange/refund it. With the pool not having been filtered for a week, I needed to find a replacement clamp quickly. I called Don's to see if they had the part. I was willing to pay whatever at that point. The gentleman who answered the phone said they had a used part. After asking how much and holding my breath, he said I can have it for free. OMG! I couldn't believe it. After having been treated so badly by the online store, Don's was an amazing contrast. Thank you! You turned around my faith in people, at least that day. read more

Went in to get assistance to determine what I needed for my spa water after returning from vacation. Apparently, my house sitter enjoyed the spa. I took a sample of my spa water to be tested.I was assisted with a gentleman with a beard. He was abrupt and condescending when I handed him my spa water to test. He told me The water was the worst he's ever seen in his life. I believe he was being a bit dramatic. Truthfully, I was a bit taken back and didn't respond at that moment . I figured it was early morning, cold and that he possibly wasn't a morning person or needed coffee. I then went to Leslie pools. I generally try to support my local businesses as much as I can. Being a small town local gal myself, I know support from locals means so much to a business. When I went into Leslie pools, there is a very informative and helpful woman by the name of karma. She was amazing helped me out and didn't belittle me due to my spa water being so grimy. She even offered her pump, at no charge to drain my spa. The sales person was truly amazing! Fast forward, I thought in fairness if I was going to post a negative review that Don's pool center had a right to know who is making a complaint, to see my face, and to honestly give them an opportunity to make their wrong -Right. As I was speaking to the gentleman who is helping me I even told him that he was a lot more pleasant this day. He kept denying that my original visit ever happened he kept stating that he did not know who I was or recalled the transaction that we had.However, the owner came around the corner, named Tad. He came out to intimidate me, and actually said" what do you want why are you here and I was crazy". He continued to badger me where I could not even get a word out. Tad, you are a bully and you are a lousy businessman. I am embarrassed that you represent a small business in the community of Napa. The funny thing is, he actually did remember me and didn't say oh yes I remember now. That was after I had already been told off by the owner Tad that I was delusional and was making things up. read more

Took my hot tub motor into Don's today and was helped by Ed. Ed was very professional and helpful. He diagnosed the problem (bad bearings and seal) right away and gave me an estimate of the following day for repairs. He called me a few hours later and said he was able to complete the repairs and the motor was ready for pickup. I picked the motor up and it was functioning properly. Nothing negative to say here. I do not recommend Don's for regular pool cleaning service. They have been servicing our pool and have not done a great job. Most recently, our pool turned green and full of algae. The service person was not responsive and when he did come out, he shocked the pool to clean up the algae, it only did about 1/2 the job, and the sweep was still not working. We called Don's and they said someone will be out the next day. The next day came and went with no response. I visited the store and bought cleaning supplies myself and spent 2 days cleaning the hoses, filters etc. and could still not get it working. We had to call another pool cleaning service to come out and clean up the mess. They got it turned around in an afternoon and found the main filter completely full and dirty. It had not been cleaned in months although we were still paying for pool cleaning services. We cancelled our weekly service with Don's. read more

Have tried and tried and tried to give them my business. I have bought miscellaneous supplies and items from them over the past four years but on two separate occasions over a three year period when I needed some work done at my pool, they have failed to deliver. After many phone calls and being told Tad would be in touch or stop by, it never happened. I eventually had an out of town pool company come fix my problems. Two years later I needed more work done. I figured why not give them another chance. Wanting to support a local business I called them again. Three weeks now have gone by and I have called them three different times. Each time I was told Tad would be in touch. Now going on my fourth week, and nothing. Just tell me it is not going to happen or that you are too busy to get someone to see me. Don't lie to me and tell me someone will contact me. Never again will I give them my business. And it's sad because I always support local businesses when I can. read more

I have a hot tub and have been buying my supplies at a certain place in town (Napa) as I honestly thought Don's just carried swimming pool supplies. Fed up with the high prices, creepy salesguy and being pushed into buying chemicals I had no idea how to use, I sought out Don's. From the minute I walked in, I was greeted by friendly people, educated on how to sanitize my hot tub, and only sold the few items I actually needed. My only complaint is that they don't seem to sell any of the 'fun' stuff one can purchase for a hot tub, such as scent crystals, etc. To top it off, I stopped by there today to get something I thought I needed (according to the internet) and was told to just use more of what I already had. Went in this morning and Ed greeted me as I got out of my car in the back parking lot and proceeded to help explain everything I need to do to take care of the pool and get it ready to use. Don and his grandson helped me. They were both extremely nice, helpful and easy to talk to. At a different pool store I tried to buy a filter part. I was told it only came as part of a kit. At Don's I was sold just the part I needed. The cost was about 60% less than the kit I was offered. I had recently bought a house and had ZERO clue how to take care of the pool. They very patiently explained how things worked, even going so far as to take apart a floor model to show me what the insides would look like when I attempted the repair at home. Don's Pool Service has been the only honest & helpful company in the Napa area for many years. I have been a pool owner for 15 years. Prior to meeting Don & his family about 5 years ago, I was going to another Vallejo family owned pool store that had the same service & customer oriented philosophy. A local, family owned & operated business & that takes pride in their customer service. They are not a chain store like the one that had sold me chemicals that I did not need & then when they didn't work or I was told I really didn't need them, they would not take them back. Especially since the NAPA store manager was missing in action & I informed them that no one was watching the store! I called their corporate office & no one called me back to tell me that they were in transition for a few weeks. I never went back to them! I appreciate that the counter people, especially Eddie who can fix things while you wait if its not busy & it's a quick fix. They have helped diagnose a problem over the phone several times. I have had many bad experiences in the past 15 years. From the person that installed my pool to the bad advice from another who told me to run the solar at night in winter to prevent it from freezing! I have done my own maintenace & chemical balancing for about 14 years. It's because of Eddie & everyone at Don's that has helped me to avoid the hassle of all the ill informed pool companies that had given me bad advice. Old fashioned customer care. I've been in the business world since the early 80's and can always see service and care, and when its lacking. Its part of a culture and its there or its not. I'm a new pool owner in the past year and have been in several times. Most recent my Polaris had a cracked plastic screw I couldn't get out. They dropped what they were doing, extracted the screw and charged me fifty cents for 3 new screws. He could have sold me new parts and equipment, and he should have charged me for the time to fix it. I even said he had to charge me at least $20 for the time but he said, "Nope. You'll be back." Great pool service! I'm a "do-it-yourself-er" but I needed help getting a lot of muck and algae out of my pool this spring. It was impossible for me to get ahead of it so I called Don's Pool. John came out and had it vacuumed out in no time. He also helped me with the filters and then set up the timer and speed on the pump to run more efficiently. He asked me how my sweep was running and when I said it didn't he found a small broken part on it. He took it into the shop and they fixed it within the hour! Prices are very fair and reasonable. I recently bought a house with a pool that needed work. I looked online and came up with Don's Swimming Pool Center and their good reviews. However, my experience was very unpleasant. When I first called them, they got my info and mentioned that somebody else was going to call me back to set up an appointment to come and take a look to the pool. Two days passed and nothing. I called back and they asked me for my information once more. This time they did set up an appointment over the phone. The day of the appointment came and nobody showed up. I called and ask them what was going on. Their response was that there was an outstanding bill for this pool since June 2014. I mentioned that I just bought this property in December of 2014 and was not aware of this bill. I cannot understand how a business like this can blame new customers for old services. So unprofessional! and please have the decency of calling back if you are going to miss your appointments! read more

A few times when I thought my pool sweep was possibly needing replacement they were able to repair it at minimal cost. I started service. Now mind you I haven't been the greatest customer in the past. Probably due to a lot of frustration.Over charged ,(1200 dollars in one month and still a green pool,)or many don't show,or they have no respect for my time or the fact they come when they want. And I have a dog I need to move the day they come . And there scedule is not consistent. Days they come ECT. Although I totally tried to accomdate this company. Never got upset and tried to be respectfull and understanding.. But only to be told on a Saturday they are not servicing my pool anymore . And they were suppose to come Tuesday . I got overcharged ,credited back. Although I told them it was an incorrect amt it was too much. . But they stated it wasnt. So I didn't argue it. Then I went there on Friday after they were to be here . After not being called back. Totally understanding that maybe they got behind. And was told yes they were overwhelmed. And they would be out today, Saturday. But the whole time them not wanting to tell me they didn't originally want to service my pool . They got stuck and more or less got my pool . Let me explain myself, I heard good things about Don's for years. And frequented their shop for approx . 10 yrs buying various things. When I would go in I always inquired. Re. Service which they always stated they were full. So when my daughter came home from college ( she's a cute girl) I told her I tried to get Don's in the past. Well she went down for something, I believe to get the water checked. And inquired herself re: service . Which at the time they told her oh yes we have spots. Then I went several days later confused and asked. Once again, they stated they were full. Confused I asked to speak to senior Don ( I assume) he asked one of the boys at that point . To go look at the pool. I was elated and happy they had finally started service. Little did I know what hell was to come. Now I still did not get upset. And only called to find out if they were coming today. Because my pool has been green the last two weeks and I have company and a barbecue going on tomorrow. A gentlemen named ray answered refused to allow me to find out from the technician if he was still coming today. Told me I'd have to wait till he was done servicing pools today. And when I stated well I need to know and I'd been in the day before. Knowing of my future guests coming Sunday. . And asking him again for the technician contact # . Because I knew he'd be done with pools at that point he called ( the technician). Ray stated he was the owner and he was finished servicing my pool. In tears my hands were tied. Now I'm stuck cancelling my birthday event that was planned for myself. And stuck trying to find yet another service. Why can you try to be understanding and work with businesses only to be dumped on in the end. What a birthday for me. Thank you. read more
