Ordered their half Italian sub sandwich, which they call the sergeant with everything. The sandwich was filled generously with cold, cuts, and tasted fresh and delicious. Bottom line, this place is a solid for sub sandwiches, and offers a good variety of alternative types of sub sandwiches, including hot sandwiches. Before I left, they asked me to spin the wheel of free stuff and I earned a free bowl of soup for my next visit. That was a nice touch for someone on their first time in the shop. read more

Always on the look out for a good local quality sandwich shop. Growing up in Chicago we had plenty of options, but find it limited in McHenry. We called ahead and my daughter went to pick it up. I had the Admiral, the heaping amount of meat on top of a lengthy bun made me very happy. My family tried the Tuna on a Croissant, Kernal and a BLT. We all enjoyed our sandwiches. My daughter didn't notice that one of the sandwiches was missed when she picked up the order. We called the shop and they were very sorry and even delivered it to the house. BTW. The sandwhich was only missing because it had been pulled aside to make sure it had been made to our preference and then unfortunately missed at pick up. Great sandwiches, hot and cold. Bread is amazing, cold cuts delicious and I don't eat cow but my man's Philly cheesesteak looked and smelled so amazing - he loved it. Stop for lunch or dinner, yum! Ordered the Kernal and they accidentally gave me the Italian big beef. They apologized and allowed me to keep the beef and make me a Kernal. I was satisfied with the big beef as it was very good so I ate just half to save the other half for later so I can eat half the Kernal as well- I love a good pastrami & corned beef...both sandwiches were the bomb and they took care of me. The "Gluten-free" wraps are not gluten free. If you have celiacs you will get sick from them. They are just regular flour tortillas from turano. (I know because I asked them) Turano doesn't make gluten free tortillas or wraps. I can't take it anymore. The staff at Dons Subs is the slowest I've ever seen. Just waiting at the cash register takes forever. No matter how busy, they are never prepared. I have been a customer at least once a week since they opened. I miss the original owners so much. Food is still ok, but not worth the wait. What a shame. I don't like going to fast food franchises would rather support a local business but can not recommend Don's. When I ordered there were no other customers there. sounded like there was a phone order just before I ordered. someone else came in maybe 5 minutes after me and ordered then several more came in. The 3rd person in got their sandwiches long before I got mine and in fact when they ordered the lady who took the order thought he only wanted one sandwich but he still git his his 2 sandwiches first.
