    Pearl Street Pilsner And Firesticks
    Steve A.

Here is yet another small town brewery. It has a large amount on tap for not having much room. McHenry Brewing Company is a hangout for mostly locals it seems. Felt like it wasn't a place out of towners usually go. They will certainly take anyone's money. Came here before leaving town and got a few beers. It seems like it's not as much of a hipster hangout as other craft breweries for sure. There were only a few crusty locals hanging around the bar, so it seems like a place for people in town to come complain about things. Anyway, the beer. It's about $5 a pint. I had the Pearl Street Pilsner. This is a Czech pilsner, and it was light and smooth. Food is lacking. It's $5 for Firesticks pretzels. They let you bring in outside food though. For sure it's not a hipster attraction. It's just about good ass beer. There's a few greasy barbecue restaurants close to it so you can bring in food from those or wherever.

The Peraid was happening this Sunday. Mr. Bojangles and me were out for a walk. Them guys were selling hotdogs and brots. I had two brotwerz and mr Bojangles had himself a dog with katchup. The food was very good. I went inside and it cost a dollar for a small bottle of water. So I got a beer instead. The beer is good. It was hot out. I had another beer and watched more of the people in the peraid. A nice lady gave Mr Bojangles water. It was hot and I had more beer. The peraid ended and I was still hot. I found a bottle of water and Mr.Bojangles had the water and I had beer. I like the different beers. I found an open beer and took it home. It took a long time to walk home with Mr Bojangles. I just finished the beer I found . It was the best one and I can't find my way out of the room. Mr Bojangles is calling for me. Good food. Nice people at the peraid. Expensive water and good beer. I give 5 stars to everything but the water.

RACIST establishment. Do NOT go if you have any respect or compassion for your fellow neighbors…read more How can I give zero stars for discrimination? I'll try to be short, but want to give a true account of the events. Yesterday I came from the city via Metra late afternoon with another friend to visit a dear friend that moved to Cary a few years ago. Cary is far & we rarely see one another. Needless to say, we were super excited to for this mini-reunion & for our friend to show us a slice of Cary. It was not the best planning being St Paddy's weekend but so be it. We specifically looked for a place we could easily talk & catch up. We started w/ one chocolate martini at Cucina Rustica and chatted OVER an HOUR. Little did we know, we should have stayed there. Next stop, Cary RACIST Ale House. The back area lounge was nearly empty & we were assured it was open (not booked for any events). The waitress, at the start aggressively asked a bunch of questions. I first thought her line of questioning was bizarre so I ignored her while trying to figure out what to order. She asked how we got there, who was driving & specifically said she didn't feel comfortable in serving me. WTF?!?!? My friend politely answered her questions and when she left, we all agreed the waitress's behavior was odd & laughed it off. We refused to have her ruin our evening. To our SHOCK the waitress would NOT serve me?! Only me! Was I disruptive? NO! Was I being violent or doing something illegal? NO! Did I come in stumbling? NO! Was I slumped over passed out? NO! This was crazy! Check your security cameras if you don't believe! Was this a bad twilight zone episode? Was someone going to tell us this was all a joke? I was speechless. We asked her why. She said it was a management decision. What?! Interesting since no one came to talk to us aside from her. We asked her to explain, to get some understanding. You will NOT believe what she said....she said it was my eyes. I looked at my two white friends & asked if something was wrong with my eyes? No, nothing is wrong. WOW, she basically said my Asian eyes were an issue. Falsely claiming I was drunk and couldn't be served because she didn't like Asian-looking eyes?!?! I was stone cold sober ***hole! We were all completely sober & flabbergasted! Completely disgusted, we left. I thought about brushing this aside but I wouldn't want anyone else to be treated that way. I will not allow them to humiliate me. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, and it was spoiled by a bigoted, small-minded person. I don't know how these people can live with themselves.

Date of visit: January 31, 2026…read more We were down here for a fundraiser for the NGBC Knights Baseball Trivia Fundraiser in the rear banquet space and was overall impressed with the facility. It's kind of hidden as it is located in a separate space behind the taproom and we actually appeared to walk through some of the production facility to access the space (likely on account of the cold) which was both fascinating and slightly nerve-wracking, similar to the beginning of a low-budget horror movie! The space is airy and large, and accommodated a couple hundred inebriated baseball parents (and two infidels from Wisconsin that snuck into the event and won the whole damn thing!) along with a quesadilla truck and raffle prizes. I don't drink so I can't speak to the beer but others I talked to said they were good. I can only vouch for their Coca-Cola and give that a thumbs up! Really the only issue is that the space never seemed to fully warm up for me and I left my coat on the entire several hours I was there.

Although there are many picturesque lakes nearby, the brewery does not have a view of any of them, sadly- just trying very boring and dead Main St. On the other hand, my 6.5% APV Blood Orange IPA is delicious. As far as atmosphere goes, -1 for all the gambling games. +1 because I can smell the sweet wort in the air.

They have a daytime area (The Steeple) and a nighttime area (The Biergarten). One is air conditioned / fully indoor while the other is more outdoor, production area vibes. CHECK! Many breweries aren't big enough to offer food. Not an issue here! They have a nice menu and I really liked the BBQ chicken flatbread (perfect size for two). They have close to two dozen beers, seltzers, etc. and out of the 10 we had, they were all pretty darn good. The maibock was our favorite! Be sure to give yourself plenty of time here, you won't want it to be a quick visit. Live music, trivia, etc. offered - check their socials for more info. Thanks to Amanda and Corey for a great reintroduction to Church Street after not visiting for a few years! We can't wait to come back and try more from your beer and food menus. P.S. Happy New Year 2026! My first review of this year. Cheers!…read more Church Street is a spacious, but intimate feeling brewery with a relaxed vibe, tucked away in an Industrial area of Itasca. The on-site parking lot is quite small, but other business lots and street parking is available nearby, especially during events. I tried a sample of their light pilsner and purchased a 12 ounce prickly pear sour. It had a unique flavor to it and wasn't too tart or sour, as I find some to be. I would like to return and try the cranberry sour and German, dry pilsner. Perhaps after "Dry January!" (Hello Mocktails). I did not order any food but I do plan to return and would like to try some of their menu items. I enjoyed sitting at the bar with others and our server was delightful. I have also had their wheat beers which are tasty. Inside the brewery there is a cozy feel and the singing cook in the kitchen was fun to listen to, as he had a nice voice. Check out their fun fan merch for sale too. Happy "Brew Year" all!
