I love Don's Auto and have recommended them to my boss and my partner, who also love them. Carol, at the front desk, is really kind and communicative, which I really appreciate. I've been taking my Honda Fit into them for 10 years, and they've always treated it and me right. They always have whatever work my car needs done the same day. Carol suggested that I buy a part online at a much lower price since they were forced to order that part from Honda and they installed it for me. One time when I had a weird sound in my wheel. I pulled right in, and they put it up onto lift, found a loose part rolling around in my hub cap, checked the brakes, and had me out of there in 10 minutes and charged me $30. They are just down to Earth, honest, knowledge mechanics, and I am grateful that Don's is near my house. read more

Straightforward, honest, so friendly--the Don's team will always give you the all-up: what needs to be done, what should/could be done, and what can/might wait. All with safety first and your concerns & budget in hand. read more

They have good mechanics, but horrendous prices. Who charges $250 for an oil change?? I requested just a basic oil change for my 20 year old car, with nothing fancy needed. I expected it would be about $100 like everywhere else. I had no idea they would be more than double what other good quality shops charged. Without asking me, they installed 2 air filters for $60, added $15 extra for fluids, and said "we didn't charge for labor" while adding a $65 labor cost. When I questioned the charges, the lady at the front desk got so mad she started yelling at the mechanics to pull out the air filters and just walked away, as if I was at fault. The shop does good work, but BE SURE to get the FULL price before you leave your car here. read more

I first went here a couple of months ago because of brake noise that started after I had my brakes done. I was hearing a persistent whooshing or whistling sound from the rear. Around the same time, I was also dealing with smog issues where the OBD couldn't be read, along with a check engine light, so I asked them to look at everything together. I was told the check engine light was likely related to an oil change and that everything looked fine. The only actual work that seems to have been done was an oil change and replacing one light bulb. Unfortunately, my check engine light is still on, the OBD issue is still not resolved so I still can't pass smog, and the brake noise never went away. It felt like my concerns were not thoroughly investigated. I understand that not every issue is simple, but I paid to have these problems checked and none of the original concerns were resolved. Based on my experience, I would not recommend them. read more

Don's auto did an outstanding job on my car, improving the quality of the drive at a reasonable cost. I had issues with a misfiring cyclinder and a few other problems with the timing belt that were causing a rough ride at idle. They communicated throughout the service to ensure that any additional work was approved before continuing. I recommend Don's auto shop! They were easy to work with. read more

Don, the owner went far beyond my expectations to insure my need for a pre purchase inspection could be met. When he himself couldn't get it done in time that worked for me (coming in from SLO), he not only told me where I should go and who to ask for, but went to the trouble of calling the other business to tell them to take good care of me, because I was his client. And they did! PPI saved me from buying a car I would have regretted. Money well spent. Don made it all happen for me, a stranger who happened to call him. Never made a dime from me. A real class act! And if he took such good care of me, well, just imagine what extraordinary service his customers get! read more

Excellent Service- Reasonable prices- Quality top of the line- Carol behind the desk is knowledgeable- A place you feel like Family

Carol, Dave and company are just what you want in a neighborhood trusted auto mechanic shop. They are honest, punctual and communicative. I take all three of my vehicles there for routine maintenance and whatever else might come up. I always leave satisfied that my $$ was well spent. Thanks you guys. read more

Great service highly recommend this place. It is always nice to have a auto place close by.

I really don't understand how anyone could give this place a bad review. My experience at Dons has always been fantastic. They are super friendly and helpful (even when I show up at 7a). When I've called in, I get really useful advice, and sometimes their suggestions save me money over what others have recommended. But my favorite story was from a couple of years ago - when I got in my car to go see my mom for her bday my battery was shot. Neighbor gave me a jump and I took it straight to Dons. I told them about my plans - asked for a time estimate so I could decide whether to cancel or just adjust my plans for mom's bday. They told me they'd get it done in time for me to still go or lend me a car so I don't have to cancel - because mom has to be priority. read more

Don's Auto Service is without a doubt, a business that cares about their customers!! I highly recommend this shop. They have on many occasions, proven they are trustworthy, efficient and reliable. My latest story: Early morning, I was driving on the freeway, the car started grinding and making loud noises. I immediately called, Carol, a delightful and caring lady who always makes time for my auto repairs needs. I took my car in immediately and in a few hours, I was back on the road. I drive away relieved that my car was safe to drive. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Don's Auto Service Shop. Their quotes are honest and competitively priced. They are conveniently located near public transportation and numerous cafes etc. Carol and the crew at Don's are professional knowledgeable and take pride in their job. I highly recommended Don's Auto Service Shop! read more

Bad customer service. Don't know the name of the girl who answered the phone today, but Don's lost business because of her attitude. I asked clarifying questions, and she responded with short, condescending answers. Shame. Don's was my first choice. If you want better customer service, go somewhere else like Tony's. read more

Don's Auto is literally the best auto shop I have ever been to. I have gone to many auto shots, but didn't feel like I was always getting the best service. The staff at Don's are honest, attentive, great customer service. They will go out of their way to accommodate you. I was driving and started hearing a loud grinding noise, I called Don's and they said come on in. They fixed it immediately, and the quote was beyond reasonable. I have brought my car in on several different occasions, and they have always proved to be honest, and trustworthy and the quality of work is superior!!!!! I brought my car in last week as it was rattling and I was concerned. The car was not running well overall. I brought it in, and they diagnosed the problem and my car is literally running like a new car. I truly recommend you bring your car to Don's - superior quality of work, staff that truly care, and total honesty!!!! read more

Don's Auto Service is truly a top-notch establishment. They really are excellent at what they do, trustworthy and have great customer service. I was in San Francisco from out of town and had issues with my car. Needing to get back home in a short time frame, Don and Carol realized I was in a squeeze and put in a lot of effort to help get me back on the road as soon as possible. They run a great business and really care for their customers. My vehicle has a number of after market customizations and is one of my most valued possessions. Don really went the extra mile by dedicating his time and expertise working on my vehicle. There's not many people I feel comfortable working on my car and I can confidently say Don is one of them. They are very honest, fair and provide great value to their customers. I highly recommend. read more

Don's Auto Service - Huge thank you to the crew at Don's Auto for helping me get my baby back in the road - Auto Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

I recently needed to find a new, dependable, trustworthy mechanic, and I was lucky enough to find Don's. In September, I made an appointment to bring my old Corolla in for a general inspection and oil change, and the service was exemplary. Carol, at the front desk, is very friendly. She kept me well-informed about the progress on my car and when the car would be available. The general servicing and oil change were fine, and the mechanic found an issue with the car's turn signals that I had forgotten to mention. They asked me if I wanted it repaired, and gave me a time and cost estimate, so I had them do the repair. The car was ready when they said it would be, and I appreciated the very clear details on the bill they gave me. I'll gladly go to Don's for all my future auto needs! read more

Great value mechanic. Old school, honest, trustworthy. They'll take care of you. I've gone here forever. RAV4, Murano, MINI. Through thick and through thin. Five out of five stars. Would highly recommend them. Great neighborhood shop. read more

Firstly, I'm a repeat customer for good reason. I can simply pick up the phone, state my vehicles make/model/year and describe the symptoms as to why I'm calling. I absolutely have to write another experience that may help others decide a comfort level to HIGHLY consider "Dons Auto Service" for their own needs. Yes - call them...you will be happy! EVERY TIME I've called Carol, Dave or someone else is happy to ask very nicely "what's going on?" or very similar. I can clearly describe the issue and they always suggest what to look at or throw out thoughts as to what might be the root cause. Certainly I can call back if busy. I just did so yesterday and am so glad for it as I was able to resolve my vehicles issue with a bit of thought and some experience, it all made sense! Thank you all so much ....Again! Phil read more

I was referred here originally by a friend. I have never had a more honest mechanic. It's a small local operation that will explain everything, give you options, and get your car back on the road for as little as possible. When my catalytic converter was stolen they were the best price by far, and even went above and beyond and welded a shield on so it wouldn't happen again. This is my go-to garage in San Francisco. read more

Very responsive and customer friendly - this isn't an auto shop that will try to upsell you or lie about what's wrong with your car. They are quick and to the point with the goal of getting you safely back on the road as soon as possible. I had an issue with a small piece hanging underneath my car caused by a screw cap falling off. I called ahead of time and came to Don's as soon as I could, and I was back on the road in about 5 minutes. Would highly recommend them for any car problems. Honest folks in the car repair business are hard to find so this shop is truly a gem. read more

I was recommended this shop my a close friend, and now I'll recommend them to anyone I know--incredible service! The team is affable and professional, and most important, trustworthy. Have there been times when you thought, "I wish I knew a car salesperson I could trust"; or "I wish I knew a lawyer I could trust", or "I wish I had a friend who could get me deals on [fill in the blank]", or "I wish I knew an auto technician I could trust"? Well, I feel like with Don's Auto Service on San Jose Ave, I know someone in the auto repair biz who is competent, professional, honest, and fair. It's a relief to know that I can take my vehicle in for a service or repair, and be treated fairly and not oversold or have my time wasted with shoddy work. They work pretty quickly, but they're thorough. The price is fair, and the work done is the work needed, nothing more. Truly, being able to rely on Don's has allowed me to keep 2 cars for considerably longer than I otherwise would have, actually saving me thousands of dollars in new-car payments, because these folks are legit about helping to keep a good car running well, and not just throwing a good car away because of a little problem. I'm glad they're in my neighborhood, and under my hood! :-) read more

Never trust anyone who says 'trust me" BUT when a reviewer says that they LOVE their mechanic, trust them. My Honda needed to have it's airbags replaced by the dealer. While I was taking care of this, I asked about my next major service, thinking I would have it taken car of at the same time at the dealership. Their quote sounded quite high ($1500), so I put it off & scheduled an appointment at Don's. I didn't even ask for a price quote. I trust them A few things were added on, new break pads, new windshield wipers. The price? $740.00 LESS than half of the price quote from Honda Trust them read more

I've been going here for over ten years, and I trust them. Carol and Dave are so nice!

I came with a concern, and Don addressed it quickly at a very reasonable cost. I'll be back.

Well here are some nice people. I called them to see if I could make a Smog appointment. The woman informs me they no longer do smog tests because their machines broke and the cost to update and fix them is in the tens of thousands. She did tell me to go to this other place they trust: http://www.yelp.com/biz/richies-official-smog-test-center-san-francisco#hrid:Q57mMwRHz6UQkzJ1XSnimw I then asked her my problem, which is my airbag light is kinda stuck on and I didn't know if that would make me fail inspection. She tells me not at all, "check engine light will, but airbag light will not". Yay! No DMV late fees for me! Super friendly and she took her time to chat with me even though I couldn't even go there for my smog check. Super cool. read more

These folks are honest and transparent. They tell you like it is, and don't drum up additional things to do for the car that aren't necessary or can be put off until your next paycheck. Don's is amazing! They quickly diagnosed my issue and replaced the part in a day. They were great at communicating with me throughout the day--I knew exactly what was wrong and how they would fix it. I didn't pay more than what I've paid elsewhere, but, it's the first time I actually see results. I've found my auto shop! read more

Those guys are the BEST. I been coming here for a few years now and feel bad, I never reviewed them. Super honest, down to earth easy to deal with. I have had 3 different cars here and they had no problem fixing any of them. Their prices are more then reasonable and they even offered to drive me home before. Now, if you want coffee, a waiting area and a courtesy shuttle- this place is not for you. They repair cars- very well. But no frills and bells and whistles. read more
