He said my compressor was running hot and took the plate off the back and left. Fridge still not working. He said that maybe the part he put on was defective and had to order another part. Waited a few days then he put it in. So later that day the error came back up. I called him back and he said he was going to order another mother board. Well I couldn't get him to come back. Guy showed up in a pick up truck with no supplies no name on the truck. I told him what was wrong with my refrigerator and he looked at it opened up the bottom freezer and said it was the fan motor. On March 7 Josh Hodges was prompt to come at my request for an issue with my oven. He diagnosed it quickly and said he'd have a part the next day at 10. He showed up the next day at 10, installed the 'new' part, and charged $125 for the part and $75 for service. On the invoice he indicated there was a 6 month warranty on the part. The part is not working any better than the one he replaced, so I called him in a few days. I got voice mail and left a message several times during that week. I assumed he was on vacation, so waited until the following Monday (April 9th) and called. Same thing. Went right to voice mail and no call back. I would not recommend Don's Appliance to anyone because of this experience. read more

Josh came out on 01/16/17 -diagnosed the problem with my mothers 2005 whirlpool duet washing machine (valve problem). Came back on 01/25/17 after failing to return several phone voice messages and installed the part which corrected the problem. Technically the man knows what he's doing -my issue is: Josh took almost 10 days to purchase a $60 part which he charged my mother $165 for and another $75 for the service. I could have had the part shipped over night for under $80, just paid him the $75 service charge and saved $100 and got it fixed in less than three days. I have a call out to Josh (The Owner) of Don's Appliance Service in Yucaipa, CA to explain the $100 mark-up on the part -but apparently if you buy the part from Josh this is not illegal. Called on Thursday, He came on Friday. Good response time. He said our large capacity washer would be $250 to repair, and offered to sell us a refurbished regular capacity one for $150. We were in a bind with guests visiting, so we agreed. He hauled off our old washer. The refurbished washer worked great for three months, then the drain/spin trigger (that engages when the top-load door is closed) shorted. The washer would not drain or spin. Left him a message at 9:00 am, he came at 12:30 and fixed it for free in a couple of minutes. My dad called his dad 20 years ago for reliable appliance repairs (dryers, clothes washers, dishwashers, AC and heating) and the son's work is right in line with his father's. read more

Pure and simple. These guys are crooks and take advantage of anyone they can, especially the elderly. Contact with them is impossible as they refuse to return calls and lie about repairs being made, issuing refunds, etc., etc. Finally had to get another repair guy out. The repair guy said they did nothing other than loosen things up to create additional problems and no parts were replaced even though they were paid in excess of $275. Oh yes, there has been countless complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the City of Yucaipa. File your complaints with the City and with the Police Department. They don't service front loading washers and don't even have the courtesy to call you back to let you know this. Had to find out from a friend after 2 messages left for them on a weekend. By the time I learned they didn't know how to service front loading machines, it was Sunday and everyone else was closed. Highly unprofessional. Take your business elsewhere like I did. read more

They were called to repair an incemaker. The service person said the motor had burned out. They replaced it. It never worked since. We have called them a dozen times and they refuse to call us back. We will now have to call someone else after throwing out $220.00 to these people. read more

My experience began with a noisy clothes dryer. After the repair, one of my adult children accidently overpaid the technician by $50.00 cash, and despite numerous promises to 'be there tomorrow' it has been weeks. Oh, and my dryer was also 'fixed' but was still noisy, the technician DISASSEMBLED it, even though it was working, and kept me hanging for 10 days on a part that I was told would take two days to receive. Finally told him to forget the repair, and I bought a new dryer. Not a single one of my 28 phone calls between May 4th and June 3rd has ever been returned. I haven't counted my calls from June 3rd to date yet, but fortunately my detailed phone records paint a very clear picture of the reliability, honesty and ethics of this business. read more

I have to agree with Nick L - I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!! They arrived late to fix my dryer that was not hot. That seemed easy enough but he upsold me on replacing a part to fix the squeaking. Again, I appreciate the thought and it was my decision to go ahead and fix it. Except the part he replaced did not fix the squeak. I called them multiple times regarding this problem and left multiple messages and they never returned my calls. I saw their truck one time at John's Philly Steak and wanted so bad to go inside but I had my daughter with me so I didn't. He came out right away and charged us $200.00 for parts and labor. The problem was not fixed. He said he would come on Monday to repair the problem and he never showed up. He came out and said he didn't know what was wrong but would check with "some people" and get back to us. That was 5 days ago and we have not heard from him and don't expect to. I wish that I'd read the reviews before I contacted Don's Appliance Service in Yucaipa. Don was the original owner of this service and Josh recently bought the name. He is not the older & smarter person that Don was. WHAT A HORRIBLE MISTAKE THAT MAN IS. My washer was jiggling but washing OK - my dryer wouldn't start until I'd turned the knob on 3-5 times before it would start and then is was OK for the rest of the day. Both ran good but I wanted those two items fixed before they caused more problems After Josh came and replaced the springs on the washer (washer still jiggles) and supposedly replaced the switch on the dryer (dryer still won't start 1st time) and now has a terrible screech which it never had before. He came back a 2nd time (after a week waiting for him) and replaced a couple pads that the dryer rotated on---did not quiet the screech--it is still there!!! i SUPPOSEDLY HAVE A 6 MONTH WARRANTY BUT WHAT GOOD IS IT IF HE WON'T RETURN CALLS. NOW HE WILL NOT RETURN CALLS. THAT IS $280. DOWN THE DRAIN!!! WHAT A RIP OFF THAT MAN IS. I MAY HAVE TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. read more

Three months ago my bottom freezer went out and several days later top refrigerator section followed I initially called Sears but the wait was going to be four or five days and I needed my refrigerator so I decided to keep my business local I have lived in Yucaipa Most of my life and remembered Don's appliances so when I call he was very prompt I have an LG refrigerator he told me it was probably the memory board asked for $300 in advance for the part after having the wrong part and having to wait the refrigerator still did not work he didn't came back and said that he did not realize that it also needed a three in one Release which he came back put the switch in and it still not work he then informed me that he did not work on compressors so here I was $450 later and no refrigerator.Never returned so when I called Sears the tech told me that my compressor would still be under warranty with LG I explained what Don's appliance had done he opened up the back and I heard oh no he put a grenade I knew by his tone that wasn't good apparently he put a AC three in one switch on a DC linear compressor so to make a short story shorter he voided my warranty by putting the wrong part on and then told me that the part store where he purchased the switch said that it was compatible never calling or checking with a LG distributor or help line so we will never know if my compressor was bad or if it was because of the wrong switch so now I have a paperweight sitting in my kitchen Sears check said that it would be $1100 for all the parts and installation but could not guarantee it would not break because of possible electrical problems created from placing the wrong switch on the refrigerator I ask him for my money back and he informed me That he had done nothing wrong and he was just trying to help me please always investigate and call local appliance places to find out your best options for repairs usually don't write posts but do not want someone else to find themselvesIn my position I'm still without a refrigerator and I'm trying to save the money cash $1500 to purchase a new refrigerator read more

I was referred to Don's by a friend that was very satisfied by their service. We were very pleased with them. Their service was very quick, the responded, came out to look at our refrigerator and repaired it all in the same day (need a new compressor)!! And this was after we got a huge run around by some of the big repair guys; including our refrigerators manufacturer and Sears. I would highly recommend Don's to anyone. The guy came out, picked up our washer and brought it back the next day as promised...so far so good, right? After he left, my daughter put in a load of delicates and set it up to wash with cold water only. She went out 30 minutes later and saw steam coming out of the washer! Nothing but hot water! Additionally, one of the hoses he hooked back up was leaking severely at the connection and the floor of the garage was covered in water!!! He also had the hoses crossed - the hot and cold were backwards! We called him immediately and he said he would be right out but he never showed! We called him 2 hours later and he didn't answer the phone! We turned the water off to the entire house then started calling every man we knew, trying to find one to come out to help because we didn't know how to fix it or stop the leak :( Luckily, a friend was able to fix the problem after hours of anxiety and frustration! I am in the middle of a bad experience with this guy, Josh (3rd gen owner). I hope he is able to do the right thing and right the problem. In short, he replaced a relay on my fridge for $220. When that didn't work he came back and said it was a bad part. He took the part away and days later reported that I would need a new motor as well. Then he disappeared. He has not returned texts or phone calls, except periodically. He had reasons, but still nothing. Meanwhile, I have discovered a very energy efficient way to not run my fridge. I freeze bowls of ice and go old school with ice blocks on towels. It's a major pain in my ask me no more questions. Josh, read yelp, then help. Your move. read more

Not a good experience. A oven for one of our rental units was broken. He was prompt the first time. When it wasn't fixed I called back because it was under warranty. I left three voice messages in a week and no response. I finally reached him and he said he had an emergency and left town. I felt bad, but I left my first message about an hour after he fixed it so I know he was around. I overlooked it and he eventually came back to fix it. He was there 10 minutes, said it was fixed. My tenant asked if he could wait and be sure it was fixed but he assured her it was and left. AGAIN it wasn't fixed and 1/2 later called him back. No answer. I continued leaving messages, and like the first time, no call back. I kept trying everyday and he finally answered. Said he would be by the next day at a certain time. NEVER showed up, NEVER called. They waited around all afternoon for nothing. Never did hear from him. Sooooo AGAIN I CALLED AND CALLED. Left a number of voice messages and he NEVER called me back. Finally he answered a week later and said he would order another part and it should be in in the next couple days. A week later still no part. I finally got smart and saved his cell number so I text him after a week asking where the part is. He said it would be in tomorrow. THREE DAYS LATER, never heard back. I finally text him and said forget it, I would like a refund. He text me RIGHT BACK (the FIRST time he EVER RESPONDED TO ME) and said he could be there tomorrow to fix it. He came today to fix it. And guess what???? After an hour, it's not working right again!!!! It has truly been a nightmare and I don't see how anyone can run a business like this. We used him one other time before this and the service was ok but never calls back and you can't count on him backing up his services! It's a real shame because we own a lot of units and he could have gotten a lot of work from us. read more

I am following up on my 1/14/2016 posting on Don's Appliance repair (Josh). I continued to have problems with my gas Cabrio Dryer and since Josh apparently did not intend to respond to my numerous requests to honor his stated 6 month warranty policy on parts and labor, I had a legitimate repairman come take a look at my dryer. We found that the problem was a defective idler pulley and that Josh had installed an improper drum roller (something he probably had laying around in his shop because it wasn't new and it did not fit my dryer. Additionally and more egregious was the fact that the inside of the dryer cabinet was full of lint which was ready for combustion. The way I see it is that it was professionally incumbent on him to eliminate this hazard or advise me of this hazard. He did neither. What a "PIG" of a repairman!!! This could have caught fire and placed my family and property in serious jeopardy. I hope I have been clear in my reasons why you should not hire this guy!!!! read more
