Two weeks ago I noticed strange gurgling noises coming from my home's drains, and a scent of sewer gas in my front yard. A plumber from Donlon arrived at my house about 1pm, Feb 26, 2019 to clear out an obstruction in the main line from my home as it reaches out to the street line. The plumber was surly and generally non-communicative, but no matter, I let him work away. At one point he did tell me there may be roots obstructing the line. I came out to check on his progress around 5-5:30. He was gone. I thought this was startlingly unprofessional. However, the drains seemed to work better, and the sewer scent had abated. The next morning, I could see the disaster the Donlon plumber left behind. See photos, attached -- I have a green, verdant garden that reaches across the front of my home (as illustrated by the picture of lush greenery I've attached for purposes of comparison). At the site of the sewer drain, there was literal shit piled around plants broken and stamped to death, mulch shoved aside. I was surprised, and sickened. A few days later, after the drain gurgling noises and sewer gas returned, I called Donlon to report that the plumbing project had not only failed, but that the plumber left a disgusting mess in my front yard. The customer disrespector I spoke with was defensive: That was the condition of the garden when the insolent plumber arrived, she lied to me, at first. Then she claimed they had photos attesting to this supposed slovenly condition of the garden upon his arrival. Impossible, I said, as I didn't even know where the access drain was located, since the entire area was covered in a blanket o mulch and the aforementioned lush greenery. Finally, as a last resort, she informed me that their plumbers are not responsible for clean up after their work, and that this is something, this level of cleanup, that will have to be handled by another company. A sham excuse that I'm sure doesn't hold water (which is odd, coming from a plumbing company -- "#1 Plumber in Ventura"!). After that mini-torrent of lies and evasions, I was then told that the plumber was not able to fix the problem, that there was a "massive" obstruction due to roots clogging the line. She said that the matter had been referred to another company, one capable of digging out the blocked line and replacing it. And, one would hope, one capable of cleaning up after itself. I deduct one half star for the rudeness of the plumber. And three -and-a-half stars for pervasive unprofessionalism and downright dishonesty. read more

If zero stars were an option, Donlon plumbing would be receiving that. I used Donlon plumbing for a small job in June 2022 to tighten up tub faucets and re-caulk/seal a bathtub. I felt that they did a good job there and were reasonable, so when I needed my under-sink reverse osmosis system replumbed in October 2022, I figured I would give them a call. I had already gotten free in-person estimates from other local plumbers, but wanted to see what Donlon Plumbing would quote. After sending photos to and corresponding with the owner, Peter, via email, he quoted a price for the job. Because of my past experience, I decided to go with Donlon plumbing. Throughout this time, there was never a mention of a service call charge. I scheduled a time for a plumber to come out, and the plumber arrived. The plumber spent an hour scratching his head and looking at the existing setup. I provided the original manual which had the tubing setup diagram, as well as shared the manufacturer's setup video, but to no avail. The plumber they sent claimed that a tubing part was missing and that he could not obtain it, but was willing to "go with his gut" and connect it anyway? I told him I was not going to authorize him to do that if he could not get the correct parts and do the repair properly, because I did not want to risk water damage or damage to the system. After he packed up, he tried collecting $95 for doing no work. I told him I was disputing that, and he still told me he had to collect $55 for the "service call." All he did was look at the system and tell me it was connected improperly - something I already knew and told him when he first arrived! I called the office line and spoke to the owner, Peter, on the phone and told him what the situation was. He told me that he "still had to pay to send a plumber out there." I told him that other plumbers had given me free in-person estimates, but he would not budge an inch. I gave him every opportunity to make things right and waive this bogus "service call" fee, (mind you, a fee that was NEVER disclosed upfront) since they had left me no better off than the day before, but they refused. The plumber would not leave until I paid, which made me feel very uncomfortable in my own home as well. I only wish I had paid by credit card instead of check so that I could have reversed the charges. Instead, I wanted to share my story to warn anyone even considering hiring Donlon Plumbing to stay very far away. I have now paid $55 to Donlon Plumbing and received nothing for it but an hour of MY time wasted. Donlon Plumbing might seem appealing because they have a large team of plumbers, but if you have a choice and are in a non-emergent situation, do yourself a favor and go with a smaller local plumber that will actually take the time to diagnose your problems and that knows how to actually fix them without charging you a bogus "service call" fee. If you enjoy spending your hard-earned money so that an unqualified plumber can ride around in their truck and then meditate under your sink for an hour before not performing any services, then by all means... Donlon could have made things right and not lost a customer, but chose $55 over doing the right thing. Penny-wise, pound-foolish. Never again. read more

My clients used Donald plumbing for 20 years. They are now trying to sell their house and I'm trying to help them. Donlon plumbing replaced 35 feet of sewer under the house which included the toilet and the shower downstairs. They came back a couple of times because the toilet leaked but it was still leaking a few years laterwhen I started helping them. The problem was they put new ABS up to the old toilet flange leaving the old toilet flange instead of putting a new one in. When I crawled under the house to check it out I noticed that the shower was also leaking which rotted out the floor. Like I said it had been a few years but when things are done properly they don't leak. My toilets have been set in my house for 18 years and guess what doesn't leak. Peter Donlon came out and as we were discussing the issue Peter says "you're accusing me"and I said you plumb it, it leaks. My 70 year old client that had throat cancer didn't touch it. Peter Donlon was there for probably four minutes and says again your accusing me and walks out of the house. I was really not trying to piss the guy off I was just wanting him to help the homeowner. So if you plan to use Donald plumbing you've been warned hopefully you'll have better luck than my homeowner did. I'm giving him a 1 because I can't go any lower. read more

Good plumbling skills, careless about everything else. Had some faucets for the washing machine that needed to be replaced. Was quoted $110, paid $135. OK, not that bad. They moved the dryer in the process of accessing the faucets. The dryer was on a pedestal mount with a drawer underneath. It used to latch closed, after they moved it all around - it no longer latches and just rolls out all the time. They acknowledged it wouldn't latch when they left (and confirmed that as well when I called), but that was it. Called, asked about how to get it resolved, they said we need to talk to the dryer warranty company, or that maybe it was busted before they came to service it. Basically passing the buck for their poor service in moving the dryer. Won't use them again. I run a small business, if I make a mistake or damage something - I own up to it and make it right. Blaming the customer is exactly the wrong thing to do, it shows a lack of basic business integrity. read more

This is a late review. So i had my husband have Donolon replace a shower valve, in the master bathroom. The replacement was just a routine change out of the tub spout and temperature valve. I was working out of town, and on the road. After returning home there was no hot water, i do not know how the hot water was not connected, but it wasn't. My husband did not catch it because he showers in the guest bathroom. It was a little over a month from the service and they said it was out of warranty. They fixed a pinhole leak in my attic quickly that could have caused major damage. Most recently Mark, one of their outstanding plumbers replaced a kitchen faucet and dishwasher air vent. He also noticed a frozen shut off valve to the kitchen faucet and fixed it to prevent damage from any future faucet leaks. He was detailed and through in his work and left my kitchen area spotless. Due to a series of unfortunate events, I found myself in need of complete gas line replacement in our house, from curb to ... everything. I called 11 companies and found 4 that would/could come out quickly and give estimates/quotes. Donlon was among two that I liked best for attitude and knowledge, and they were significantly cheaper than the other one I also liked. So they got the job. The work was done pretty quickly, and I am happy with the results. The snags were that they quoted me including pulling of permits but then the workers didn't know they had to pull permits (and when they asked the boss he said he didn't think they had to pull permits) and when that was finally straightened out (showed them a copy of the quote and home office confirmed) they couldn't send anyone to the city in a timely manner and it was near the weekend so this oversight was about to mean I would have FOUR more days of freezing cold showers. F-that, I called the city Thursday and ordered the inspection, then ran down and pulled the permit myself, to make sure the city inspector could come out Friday morning. If Donlon had pulled permits when they were at my house for the original work (Wednesday) we could have had the inspection and gas back on Thursday. Their oversight put things 1 day behind but thankfully my quick thinking saved it from being all the way until Monday. Anyway then we had a little haggle over the methods of payment they accept (I wasn't happy paying 3% more to use a credit card, but I had run out of checks and Donlon wasn't letting their workers leave the property until I'd paid and I wasn't sure I could get to the bank to get a temporary check before the bank closed)... but they were finally able to resolve that to my satisfaction too. Overall 4 stars. I'm happy and the quality of the work was very good. Minus 1 star for payment options and communication issue between main office and workers. read more

My HOA has had them since before moved into our condo and the company does such poor quality jobs! Think of them as the Walmart of Plumbing. Our neighbor has had constant leaking and they have come again and again with no final resolution. They tore up our master bathroom. Took out our vanity, sink. They tore up a big hole in our master bedroom ceiling. To find out the leak was related to the CEILING, not our bathroom. They only located this error after not finding any leaks in our bathroom & doing work on the ceiling. Our granite countertop was cracked in the process. Fortunately my dad is a carpenter and he did the restoration, which they yet have to even call us for. DO NOT CONTRACT THEM! Unfortunately we can't contract anyone aside from them because of our HOA. Had a drain pipe in the garage overflowing. Requested service through the home warranty. Donlon was assigned and showed up to do the work. at 2:30 in the afternoon I received a call from the plumber doing the work requesting permission to open the wall so that he could complete the job. I gave him permission. At 4:30 I got a call stating that they left and did not do the work because they were waiting on an approval. I called the emergency number and asked them to come back and was told that I would have to pay overtime rates in order for them to come back unless I got another approval. Not happy will not call them ever again. I called another plumber pro plumbing, and they came right away and fixed the problem in 20 minutes. read more

SAVED US!!! First of all - Donlan has an EMERGENCY number for plumbing emergencies. The first plumber we called didn't answer his phone. And the second (highly recommended plumber in Ventura) said that he and his guys "have lives and families" and he couldn't send anyone out since tomorrow was the Fourth of July holiday. And we were calling around 7 pm - after they had already closed. Thank God my neighbor was home and recommended Donlon. She said they were "good and honest." I called their emergency line and then got David Guzman who was really nice and said he'd be over as soon as he finished up where he was. He was here within an hour. And then he worked and worked to clear out the drain pipe from our house to the street. (Our toilet had backed up in both bathroom tubs!) He was friendly and professional. He moved really fast and yet he was really thorough. He kept checking to make sure the pipe was draining and then checking again till he was sure it was completely fixed. Then he came inside and helped clean out the tubs. He did all that in an hour. And the afterhours rate was really reasonable. My husband and I felt like it was the best money we ever spent. We thanked David over and over. We were just so grateful that he came out and did such a good job. And he was basically a really nice guy about it the whole time. My water heater went down, and I shopped around for other plumbing contractors. My colleague referred me to Donlon Plumbing, and I am so glad that he did! I contacted at least three other plumbers previously, and they all cost an exorbitant amount of money. This is probably because my water heater is located on the third floor of my townhome and that some piping needs to be up to code. The Donlon plumbers arrive (i.e., Mark and Mario), and they did a fantastic job on the installation! They even moved my old water heater three flights downstairs without damaging my carpet! He replaced 55 year old faucets, knobs and connections and shower head. Work was done quickly and price was reasonable. I will start by saying that the problem here mainly is because we have American home warranty whose coverage is terrible. But that's not Donlon's fault. And to be totally fair, the tech was AMAZING. Super fast, efficient and friendly. Unfortunately American home warranty doesn't cover a simple faucet unless you have the higher coverage (my fault I guess for not reading the coverage for all 8 options ). So my husband tried to run and get the part himself to save a few dollars since our bill unexpectedly went from a fixed $75 to the $75 plus $225. I then received a call from the office (I didn't know this was all going on) from a VERY RUDE receptionist who spoke to me as though I were a complete moron. She "needed to explain to me" how we are no longer on "home warranty time/coverage" but on their regular rate and that they "don't do that"(repeated multiple times" -referring to my husband getting our own part. Ok I get it lady, maximum money for labor/time and parts upcharge. By this point my day has turned pretty crappy already with this and then other damage from the leak I'll have to pay for- only to be demeaned by a stranger because you have to make sure you're getting top dollar. So we needed to have the inside plumbing of a toilet replaced Called they came by February 2019. 11 months later the inside pluming needs to be replaced again. Called Donlon to see if there was any warranty since it hasn't been a year since they replaced it. To my surprise they would only cover it for 2-3 months after installation. Said water quality could be why it's faiLing. Explained we have a water softener made no difference. Will never use them again really sad they don't or won't back their work Bette er than this Here is the review I promised you!!!!!! Today 2-24-2020. I learned that by Ca law plumbers are required to offer a year warranty of course when I called To inquire about this they were upset about my YELP review and won't even listen because of a bad review they told me I would have to contact the manufacture to get the part covered under warranty. I contacted and spoke with the receptionist, who stated that someone would call me back. I contacted Donlon again and spoke directly with Peter Donlon, the owner, who stated he would call me back. I made a third attempt and spoke with the office manager, Elaine, who said she would look into it and have the owner, Peter Donlon, or someone else call me back. It's been several months now. Not one single person from Donlon has reached out and returned the call. Considering the amount of work they received from the contractor for the project, a call back would have been courteous. Donlon saved the day again!!! We've always used Donlon for our non-emergency plumbing repairs. Last night was different. Late in the evening, we discovered a large trail of water in our garage that we traced to a nearby wall. We were concerned, and knew it needed to be repaired, but did not panic... until we looked on the other side of the wall that is our exterior entryway, and saw our house "weeping" through the siding. It suddenly became an urgent situation. At 7:30 the next morning I called Donlon and explained the problem. They were able to get a technician to our home within the hour, and the leak was successfully located and repaired within 2 hours. Joey was the ultimate pro, and quickly assessed the problem by feeling the wall, following water discoloration, and checking the water meter. Lining up with a faucet on the exterior wall, he determined the path of the vertical pipe that would lead to the leak up top. He cut two small squares ~ 1 in the ceiling, 1 at the top of the wall, and immediately detected the pinhole leak right where he cut. From there, he went to work expertly removing & replacing the damaged pipe. The entire experience, from my phone call to completion of the repair was a little over 2 hours!!! I give Donlon 5 stars ~ for fantastic customer service, as well as friendly, knowledgeable & skilled technicians. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Donlon for all your plumbing needs. read more

Warm spots in our floor, sound of water running even though no faucets or toilets were running, knew we had a leak, but couldn't tell where. Raoul from Donlon came out and immediately diagnosed the problem (based on his extensive experience), called a pinpoint-leak-detection service for us, and said he could come out immediately after they found the leak. Gave us lots of options for repairs of different quality and price, including tips for things I could do myself to save money. Great service, exactly what we needed. Oh, and no charge for the diagnostic visit and estimate! Lots of good Yelp reviews, although the initial tip came from the owner's brother, who works with my wife. I'll update after the repair is done. Update--Once they had us over a barrel, they charged $1,000 for a 3-hr repair job, which they knew would take only a few hours. I assumed they would charge me based on time and materials, so I guess my fault for that assumption. I asked for an explanation and a detailed bill afterwards, was told the owner/manager would call, but he never did. I will never use them again. They're competent, but I'm not going to get fleeced at the rate of $333 per hour again. Could have had an attorney do the repairs for that rate. So one star, which Yelp explains as meaning "Eek! Methinks not." And that's my opinion. read more

Mike and Ed just left my home after completing two tasks. The kitchen sink had a back wash after running the waste disposal as well as a slow drain. They cleared the line so that is working fine again. The second task was removing and replacing the faucet in the downstairs bathroom. That was not an easy task due to the state of the hardware and the small area in which they had to work. They got it done and in good form. The new faucet is beautiful and the shape of the handles are an excellent choice as they are easier to use than the older model they replaced. When there are plumbing issues and fortunately we haven't had too many over the years, the first repair people who come to mind is always Donlon Plumbing and the blue truck that brings them.
