The cuts are meaty and the sides to eat the boiled pork belly with are incredible. Amazing ssamjang and I loved the salted Napa wrap with raw garlic, jalapeño, and kimchi radish. Don't miss out on the saeu-jeot (fermented shrimp) sauce for a salty and umami packed bite! Tofu soup - 4/5, the fatty pork pieces and zucchini make this such a filling and sweet soup. I really enjoyed the tenderness of the meat pieces. Doenjang - 3/5, tasty but a little too funky for my personal tastes. Would never known about the small community of Koreans in the Gardena area until my friend told me. There were only a few parties when we went in to eat, so we were seated immediately. Only saw Korean people in there. I've never tried it before, but since it was summer, I got the kongguksu. Wile it's a cold dish, it's so heavy. I don't particularly understand why this is a summer dish other than it being cold. Very rich, very thick. Definitely not something you want to eat yourself. I believe you get salt on the side if you want it saltier. Get the bossam. It was so good, and the portion was huge. Meat was tender. The kimchi was super fresh. Braised fish was great. Ample parking, great comfort food! I like to come here with a big group of people , or just an intimate lunch and there's always other customers here. Dong Nae Gil has lots of classic Korean food like bibimbap, gamjatang, and soondae. All of the dishes I've had here tastes amazing . One of my favorite dishes is the spicy squid stir fry.. and you should definitely add in the noodles! But be warned, you will need to share because the portions are so generous. For winter, I like ordering the large size of the gamjatang (pork neck soup) for my family to share and we still bring home leftovers. I especially love the combo options on their menu, so I've been able to order many of my favorites, and the portions with the combos are still HUGE. My bibimnaengmyeon is going to last me three more meals as a leftover. The banchan was fantastic too, some of the best eomuk I've had hands down, I don't know what they do to it but it's fantastic. We love dong nae gil! Really good Korean food. Tastes like homemade food and almost everything we tried so far is so good! My favorite is the fish egg/roe soup it's spicy and hot and soothing to the soul. My kids love their bulgogi and their beef rib soup. Hubby usually gets the spicy fish egg soup too or he gets a fish dish. Service is really slow when they get busy and there's usually only 1-2 servers so if you're not patient this isn't the place isn't for you. If you drink it's a plus cause they serve you faster and constantly tend to you I've noticed lol. We came to eat here with our kids, and she loved interacting with both of them. The food here feels like home cooking, which is why many of the diners are older Korean locals. All of the side dishes (banchans) are good too, especially their cilantro banchan, which we had to specifically ask for. The bossam and jjigae combo is where it's at. The dwenjang (soybean paste) and kimchi jjigaes are both delicious and tastes like they've been cooking for hours. The individual bossam plates come with plenty of meat and toppings for your bossam wraps. They have family-style hot pots (jun-gols) that are tasty too--we tried the gamjatang and the pork was tender and delicious. Authentic Korean restaurant located in Gardena. On this occasion, I ordered the pork belly combo which came with soup. Definitely up there in flavor almost as good as 3355 Asian Grill. Located in a strip mall with many other Asian businesses, this is an unassuming, down-to-earth, family-run Korean restaurant in Gardena. I dined here with as a party of two on a Saturday night at around 7pm, and there was no wait, though the restaurant was mostly full. The interior is small, but clean, and you can see the restaurant owners making the banchan themselves! Regarding the banchan - it's some of the best I've had in the L.A. area, and that's saying a lot. Some notable highlights are the bean sprouts, which are delightfully crunchy, with just the right amount of sesame oil, and the mushrooms, which have the most amazing, deep flavor, enhanced by some sort of traditional Korean dressing that I couldn't quite place. Different types of kimchi, potatoes coated in a sweet sauce, as well as some sort of scallion jeon (Korean pancakes) are also included in the mix as well, and they're more than happy to refill the dishes! As for the main dishes, I got the Gamjatang (Pork Neck Bone Soup with Potatoes), which came with a generous serving of pork meat on the bone, and lots of hearty potatoes in the soup! The broth is rich and flavorful, yet not overly so - it still has a clean-tasting flavor to it. Rice is also provided with the soup, as well as a large portion of cilantro, which complements the flavor of the broth perfectly, since it's the perfect balance of cilantro's peppery flavor and the soup's richness. The soup was warming to the bone, and I was impressed by the portion of meat on the bone! The person I was dining with got the Spicy Cold Noodles, which was also a good-sized portion. The sauce was just spicy enough, and the noodles were cooked perfectly - not too soft, with the perfect amount of bite. It also comes with some vinegar to add that great acidity to the dish, and the little pieces of beef also serve to add a different texture! The prices at Dong Nae Gil were very reasonable - both the Gamjatang and the Spicy Cold Noodles were $14.99 with generous portions for each, and the banchan is great and pretty much unlimited. Service can be slow, especially when it gets busier (there's not many workers, since it seems to be just one family running the restaurant), but everyone seems very nice. Next time, I'd definitely like to try the Bossam (Korean Pork Belly with Cabbage Wraps), since that seemed to be their most popular dish! All in all, I would definitely recommend coming to this spot - it's an amazing hole-in-the-wall find with delicious and authentic food, and it's great to support small family-owned businesses! read more

It's fun to wrap the steamed pork in the various condiments they give you such as cabbage, garlic and kimchi. It's refreshing to eat the pork with cabbage instead of rice. The kimchi stew was lackluster. It was a little on the sour side and I expected it to be a little more hearty and comforting. We also got a combo order of the spicy cold noodles and beef bulgogi. The noodles were not spicy at all. Maybe we didn't add enough spice but I'm not sure how you're supposed to get it spicy. On the other hand, the bulgogi was pretty dry. I love bossam. I hate how it usually comes in a large portion that you have to share but I found you can get the combo with a choice of 3 different stews here. I really didn't need the stew but I ate everything. Service is a little slow but the food is delicious. They brought out the banchan a little later than we expected but it's probably better they did that or we would have filled up on the sides before the main dishes came out. The sides were a good representation of the food to come out. I don't see kong gook soo at a lot of places and I can't wait to come back to get a cold bowl of it and slurp it up to cool my soul. We called, not knowing their new hours were until 8pm in Saturdays, and they were so gracious to let us put in the order as long as we were able to pick it up immediately. Since it was about 20 minutes from me, I headed out as soon as the phone call ended. It is located on Western in a plaza a few blocks north of Redondo Beach Boulevard. I got there, and they had the order packed and ready, past closing hours. I left them a greater tip than I usually do for to-go orders because of their service. They're famous for the monk fish casserol dish and seems everyone (especially the older korean groups) orders this dish but we did not love it.
