    Jjajangyun + Kkangpoong Sehwoo

My favorite place for Jjajangmyun (Korean black bean noodle soup; I don't know why it's called that because they're not technically made of nor taste like black beans... The sauce is made of fermented soybeans and other ingredients.). Dong Bo Sung has a 1/2 Jjajangmyun and 1/2 Jjambbong (spicy seafood soup with noodles) option, so I usually grab that. Their Tang Soo Yook (fried breaded pork with sweet & sour sauce) is average but yummy, while their Kkangpoong Sehwoo (sweet & spicy fried breaded shrimp) is definitely one of the yummiest in the area. Service can be slow, but they respond quickly once you get their attention. Ambiance isn't fancy; it's a small restaurant with a spacious parking lot in the back.

So much goodness in two orders! I come here often for the black bean noodles, which is always great. This time however my husband and I ordered the japtangbap which has mixed sauteed seafood over egg fried rice, and a mixed dish that had a little of everything we usually get. Chicken was great - just what you would expect chicken kkanpponggi to be- sauced and juicy on the inside. Egg fried rice 10/10 Family friendly, space for large groups, little to no wait time Parking - there's plenty of back parking for free, although the entrance and exit is super narrow. Street parking is metered.

I called to order after accessing the pdf version of the menu on their website. The menu stated the price was $29.99, but when I went to pick up the order, I was charged $32.00. I inquired about the price, and they responded by saying that the website that I accessed was not theirs, even though it was the exact same website that was accessed through their business url and even the QR code on the business card. I understand that prices could increase, especially given COVID, but I wasn't expecting to be gaslit about the price on the menu. All they had to say was that they failed to update the pdf version of the menu and apologize for the discrepancy. Terrible service mentality. UPDATE: Food was also subpar. Noodles broke off even before biting so jjajangmyeon became porridge when the noodles were mixed with the sauce. The sweet and sour pork pieces were made to look big with thick batter coating but small pieces of meat so the pieces were more carb than protein. The side dish of radish kimchi looked like they gave us someone's leftovers. This place used to be amazing (see my previous photos), but given the terrible service and bad food, I definitely won't be returning.

I recently moved to Bergen County and I was nearly desperately in search of a good jjajangmyeon spot. I was so happy to find Dong Bo Sung! Their combo with jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk or mandu is my go-to order now! I would say their jjajangmyeon is a little bit sweeter than most, but very good nonetheless.

This place is amazing for lip slurping black bean and Korean seafood noodles. The broth is extremely complex and tastes of a medley of seafood and the black bean noodles are the perfect consistency and drenched in a meaty black bean sauce. I highly recommend ordering sweet and sour beef with your meal. It is a lightly battered crisp meat dish that is served with a side of thick, sweet and tangy fruity sauce that compliments any noodle dish really well. Order lunch special to try out all of their thoughtfully made offerings without breaking the bank at around less than $10 a dish! Service is quick, and there is street parking to order ahead and quickly stop and pick up your meal.

The name of the restaurant was called Korean Chinese Restaurant so it might be a bit confusing to find this place. We came in for a late lunch on a Sunday and it wasn't packed. It was nice that we also got a private room with a long table that accommodated all of us (9 ppl). Overall the food was good. Fried rice and noodle soup were our favorites. Those dumplings were decent too. The mapo tofu could have been better. Service was quick and staff was friendly.

If you're craving Korean-Chinese cuisine that consistently tastes good and is fairly priced, this place is probably the best choice in Bergen County. The entrees, Jjampong (Seafood Noodle Soup) and Jjajangmyun (Black Bean Noodles), are delicious as staple choices. They also have many combo menu options so that you can pair noodles with a dish like Tangsuyook (Fried pork with honey sauce) or Kkampoongi (Fried chicken with spicy sauce) for a fraction of the price of these dishes that you can only usually order as a family size menu item at other restaurants. Even the family size portions, which we ordered, were the most economically priced. The ambience is not the fanciest but for your typical Korean-Chinese restaurant, it fills the bill. Finally, they have a hidden driveway that leads to a huge, free parking lot. Make sure you park in the back!

Dong Bo Sung is a very small and unassuming restaurant but their food is delicious! They're most known for their Jajangmyun, and for good reason. Their jajangmyun was very good and cheap, only $9. I do wish they had more noodles in their jajangmyun though. My table also shared the Fried Chicken with Garlic Sauce. It was freshly fried and crispy. The sauce was tangy and delicious. I highly recommend if you're looking for a great Korean-Chinese restaurant that won't break the bank!

The service was very quick and the food was hot and fresh. It is not a big place but it wasn't cramped. I got the garlic chicken and fried rice as well as the fried dumplings. The chicken was good but I prefer white meat. Other than that the sauce was delicious and the rice was great. The dumplings were perfectly crunchy.

I came here with some friends to try their black bean noodle because we hear that it was really cheap. We didn't make it to get the lunch special offer, but the bowl of black bean noodles were still only $6.99. I have only tried black bean noodles a few times in my life. However, these black bean noodles tasted pretty good! It wasn't too saucey after you mixed it and the overall taste was delicious. They also give a pretty big portion so I shared it with my boyfriend. The staff there are very friendly and are very accommodating. We were the only customers there around 5pm on a Tuesday. I'll definitely be back if I'm craving black bean noodles.

This particular sub-genre…read moreis close to my heart, and whenever I asked friends and acquaintances about where I could find a decent bowl of those unctuous, slippery black bean noodles (called jjajangmyun), most listed Hong Ban Jang close to the tops of their lists. The jjajangmyun here are great. It's a hearty serving and a rich sauce with bits of vegetables and pork. Don't get confused when they plop a scissor next to your bowl - it's to cut the noodles down to size so they're easier to eat. At most Chinese-Korean restaurants, they've smartened up to the power of a mix-and-match menu. Hong Ban Jang has quite a few on the menu, noted in fun Korean portmanteaus like bokjjangmyun (half fried rice, half black bean noodles) or tang jjang myun (half sweet and sour fried pork, half noodles). These are served in clever divided bowls and a good way to get a good portion of two hits. Speaking of hits, my family and I tried two - the aforementioned tang soo yuk, or sweet and sour fried pork, is incredible here. Hot, crispy, and big chunks of meat (as opposed to other restaurants which shall not be named, who have shaved costs by deep frying paper thin bits of pork). It's served with a sweet sauce that has chunks of fruits (peaches? pineapples? We couldn't decide which, but it was delicious). Good as these were, I loved the lajogi even more. These are translated 'stir-fried chicken in hot sauce' on the menu, and they're deep fried nuggets of chicken, covered in a zingy, pepper-studded spicy sauce. My family and I came on a late Saturday lunch hour and things were hopping in here. Every table was full and there was a bit of a wait (admittedly, we were also a larger party so it took some time to mash tables together). The servers know how to keep up with such rush; even when there seems to be way more tables and customers than staff, they're somehow always there when you need something.

The dry pot here is similar to others, where you serve yourself from a raw bar, the ingredients are weighed, and they cook it for you to the spice level of your liking. I don't like that noodles are charged separately from the weight of the other ingredients (vegetables, fish cakes, meat, etc.) Because of this, i almost opted to order one of the dakgalbi dishes on the menu for Hong Chun Cheon. However, the prices listed on the menu are for one serving. When i tried to order, the lady at the counter explained I had to order two order minimum. So the real price for one order of cheese dakgalbi is $51.90, not $25.95. This was annoying because I was the only person who wanted dakgalbi, which mean i ended up not getting it. I did get my dry pot though. They make it spicy just like everyone else. At about $16 per pound with separate charges for noodles, it's slightly more expensive than other dry pot restaurants in the area. I eventually wanna come back for the dakgalbi, but I'm gonna need to make sure i have a partner beforehand.

I think Mild is also a great option, as it was still flavorful with a slight heat. We had a bit of a wait on Friday night as expected but luckily, upon being seated it's just a matter of waiting for the kitchen to prepare your dish. They offered us complimentary sweet potato tempura on the house which helped curb our hunger in the meantime. There are only three people working front of house so please be patient!
