The dining room was empty when we rocked up on a weekday late afternoon, and it was nice to sit at a table by the window for a street view. The staff was quick and efficient, and we got a super heavy tea pot of hot barley tea in no time. Food came out without delay. I love how theirs comes with loads of veggies, even as I question the use of green beans which is a first for me (to see them in sweet and sour pork). Ordered delivery - Sichuan jjajang myun & japtangbap (mixed seafood over fried rice) and it turned out to be a mixed experience. First, as you can see from the pics, my jjajang had pitiful amount of meat. I mean, the sauce was actually on point but I chewed through armies of onions before rendezvousing with that lone meat comrade in the battlefield that was in my mouth. We hugged. For 'twas too few and way too far in between. *pause for sadness* The japtangbap on the other hand - it was full of flavor and had good quantity of seafood & that side cup of jjambbong soup was legit & comforting - dare I say some of the best jjambbong broth I've had around here. Yes, there are many Korean-Chinese restaurants in Fort Lee and Palisades Park, and most of them within couple of blocks on Broad Ave. We frequent the Ah Woo Rang - simply because of the quality of food. Other similar restaurants can be a bit cheaper than Ah Woo Rang, but if you truly want the Korean style Chinese Jja-Jang noodle (black bean sauce) & Jjam-ppong noodle (spicy seafood soup), this is the place. It was a perfect day for takeout on a snowy day. The only downside was that since we ordered the fried chicken to go, it had lost the crispiness ... or the batter just seemed too mushy this time. While driving through the area, I was craving jjajangmyeon and discovered Ah Woo Rang on Yelp. I'm sure happy I did since it definitely hit the spot. First of all, this restaurant is on the second floor of the building so you will need to take the elevator or stairs up. Secondly, the service was superb and friendly. They were able to accommodate our toddler with a high chair with no problems. Lastly, the food and quality of ingredients were excellent. We ordered the jjajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork. My favorite was the jjajangmyeon with the noodles cooked perfectly. The sour pork was solid however it was a little heavy on the batter and got soggy pretty quick. I'd never tried white jjambbong before, but it's hearty and delicious--definitely my preference over the original red, spicier version. The owner of the restaurant is incredibly sweet; every time I pick up my order, it feels like a caring elder is packing my food. The atmosphere is very family-friendly, making it a great spot for families. This place serves pretty good 'jajamein' (black bean noodles) The problem I can think of is that its on a second floor. Its kinda empty most time with only 2-3 table during lunch service on a Saturday. The sweet and sour /garlicy shrimp is really good. The sauce can wake the dead! This is the third jja jang myung place I tried in Pal Park. I'd say that this place could be my go to, but I wish they offer those half and half bowls like Son Jja Jang. I found the jja jang sauce at Ah Woo Rang to be just right, flavorful without being too salty or sweet. I think the noodles are made from machine instead of by hand, like Mandarin or Son Jja Jjang. Didn't hear the noise of dough being banged. If Son Jja Jjang could make their sauce like Ah Woo Rang then it'd be perfect. However, I also prefer the decor and ambience at Ah Woo Rang than the other two places. Better option to bring guests or a date. Also tried their shrimp in garlic sauce( kan poog gi), which was pretty delicious. Wished we could have tried their tang soo yook, but the jja jang noodle portion is just too large. I don't eat jajang myun often so I was excited to see this place deliver to my area through uber eats. I ended up getting the classic jajang myun XL. It was pretty good, but not the best I've had. The sauce is a little too sweet in my opinion and the noodles were too soft and not chewy/al dente. How you judge a Korean / Chinese restaurant is by their jja jang myun which I refer to as Korean / Chinese Spaghetti. The Korean version is made with black bean sauce and typically loaded with onions and or chives. I would tend to agree with others that the jja jung myun is decent / average. These types of places typically do not have much if any veggie dishes. With the exception of the noodle dishes everything else is family style and most entrees start in and around $19 bucks. If you frequent these types of restaurants you tend to only see people eating the noodle dishes and the deep fried pork dish that I posted a pic of. Nothing special its your typical run of the mill Korean / Chinese place. I would save a place like this for a casual lunch if you are looking for a carb fix.
