Crispy pork with soy sauce noodles

Craving some Asian food near the Javitz Center, we found Dong Bei which delivered in quality and affordability. Their lunch specials were amazingly priced - many of the customers were Chinese which is a testament to how their food is authentic Chinese. We loved the ability to pick and choose what we wanted all from an iPad ordering machine with pictures. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the crispy pork over noodles because the lunch box special stole the show - highly recommend the eggplant!

Dongbei is a relatively new casual Chinese spot in the Hudson yards area. It looks small from a glance but it's pretty decently sized with an additional floor in the back for a small group. They have a pretty wide menu of Chinese food including skewers to dry pot. They also have a ton of lunch specials where you can pick 2/3 dishes with rice for under $14. I tried the braised pork belly with potatoes rice special but was a little disappointed. The dish was soaking in oil and it tasted pretty standard for braised pork belly. I was also disappointed that there were no potatoes in the dish despite having it in the description. The service was pretty good overall given that the place was packed due to the holiday.

Food was great, staff super accommodating, food and prices were super good. Not much one can ask for. I reallly loved the cold noodles. It's slightly different than Korean nengmyun but it has a chew and bite. Still salivating about it.

Dong Bei is a small place with a large menu of authentic Northern Chinese food. It is casual and bright, but cozy. The waitress was super nice and offered several suggestions. I was the only person there not speaking Chinese, a very positive sign. On her recommendation, I ordered the crispy pork tenderloin, which was in a tangy sauce flavored of vinegar and cilantro, with a slight garlic flavor. The pork was light and crispy, but still tender.

Dong Bei has become one of my go-to's in the area whether it be for take out or dining in. I usually do take out but I have not had any complaints. Food is always consistent for me and the deals are always good (dinner deals). I have ordered from them a few times and usually try to get different dishes but I almost always revert to the beef dry pot and the eggplant dish. I recently dined in with a friend on a Friday night and was able to try other dishes (the shredded cabbage, sliced beef in chili broth, handmade pork & shive dumplings and the pork kidney dish). Good food portions, service was fine - no complaints. Pretty chill place to grab a bite. I would definitely be back again to basically try the whole menu haha.

Amazing new hidden gem here in Hudson Yards. The place is small and a limited in seating but the food is very tasty and reasonably priced. We ordered: Eggplant, green pepper, and potato: 5/5 my favorite, no notes Northeast pig trotters: 4/5 these were okay! Not bad Tofu skin with green pepper: 5/5 sauce was very good Signature crispy pork tenderloin: 3/5 these were just okay, not bad but I wouldn't order again because their other dishes are so good. My husband came here just last week and the menu has expanded by a lot in just a week with the owner telling us it will continually expand. If you tried just a week before, you should totally give it another try!

I ordered takeout from here and all the portions were really large. Everything was really yummy. Out of everything I ordered my favorites were the hong shao rou and the tomatoes and eggs dish, although that was on the sweeter side. Would order from here again

I don't usually like to leave bad reviews, but my experience here was upsetting. I'm not sure if I came at an off time. Maybe they had a different chef. Maybe someone quit. But it seemed like it wasn't just our table who was waiting for their food for a long time. Ordered the cabbage and their signature Harbin style pork. Got the cabbage right away but the pork came an hour late. The server said they were running out of batches...if that was the case, they should've just asked us to order something else. If it was good, I would've been OK. But it was not. It was mostly batter and hardly any pork. The pork in it was very thin and over fried. It was like the consistency of dried fish. It was like they took old or left over pork...breaded it, and fried it. I really hope they didn't use scrap pork, but that's what it tasted like. See the little over fried strip of dried pork in the picture.

Wasn't a huge fan of this place but it wasn't bad. It's a casual Chinese spot with average food. Everything tasted fine but it all hovered around average to slightly below average. Sadly do not think I'll return.

The restaurant itself is quite small and what you would expect of a very basic Chinese restaurant. Food itself was great though! Serving sizes were pretty solid and price was pretty reasonable as well

Dongbei absolutely is a hidden gem in Manhattan if you're craving an AUTHENTIC harbin-style Northeastern Chinese food in NYC incredible delicious Each bites bold flavors and transported you to a whole different world Let's start with Harbin Style Fried Pork Tenderloin, a crisp, light, sweet-sour & aromatic dish, truly brings the classic Northeast flavor. It's so hard to find Beef Cold Noodle in Manhattan a refreshing dish with tender sliced beef & vegetables in a savory tangy sauce. Steam Dumplings I'm so obsessed with this home-made dumplings. Feels like back to home Lamb Spine Hot Pot perfectly match in winter season, INSANELY amazing with flavorful broth & mix of vegetables & aromatic spices, perfect for a hearty and warming meal. What's the best part Get FREE "Northeastern Chinese Chicken and Mushroom Stew"when you purchase $80 - Tender chicken stewed with earthy mushrooms and aromatic spices, a comforting taste of Northeastern China. If you're craving authentic Harbin-Style Chinese Food is your place, everything is incredibly delicious & there is something special for you no matter if you're Chinese food lover

This Dongbei is the real deal! The only Northeastern Chinese spot in Manhattan, with authentic Harbin flavors, huge portions, and seriously meaty, bold dishes. Perfect for groups -- honest, affordable, and totally satisfying. If you want real Dongbei vibes in Midtown, this is it!

Been expanding around Hudson yards since moving here looking for some good eats. This place just opened up and it's a chill spot for some Chinese. The price is a little high, but 2 dishes could feed 3-4 people. The owner recommended the fried pork and I was skeptical because it looks like a dish tailored for American pallets, but it was crispy and had a tasty sour sauce. The mapo tofu was good, but will definitely ask for one with pork next time. The tofu was soft and it had Sichuan flavor but was lacking any heat. Overall I'm glad I found this place! Hoping they can make their dishes a little spicier and it'll be perfect.

The lobster is a little chewy, but the spicy claws were very flavorful. All of the crab had so much meat and the seasonings were all amazing. Surprisingly, the iron steak was one of our favorites despite this being a seafood spot. The waiter did say to just check mark the paper instead of quantities, but they end up bringing you 2 of everything you order. The sweet & spicy fish is also very solid, garlic noodles were buttery, and even their iced tea was super refreshing. Could not recommend this place more!! This is exactly the kind of place that works well when you need something fast but still high quality. Service stood out. Jeanine was excellent; she quickly understood our time constraint, guided us to the right dishes, and kept everything moving without making it feel rushed. At one point we accidentally put a plastic menu over a lit candle, and she handled it immediately and made the moment feel light rather than awkward. The atmosphere was lively and full; the place was packed, but it still felt organized rather than chaotic. The bar looked well stocked, and the overall ambience worked well for a pre-train, Times Square-adjacent stop. Food was solid, with a few standouts. The salmon tartare with sesame crackers was excellent; clean, fresh, and well balanced. Jeanine recommended the shrimp avocado sliders, and that was the right call; they were outstanding. Happy hour oysters were fresh and well balanced. Littleneck clams were good, though slightly less compelling than the oysters. The fish tacos were good but not particularly memorable. Fried calamari was well executed, though the accompanying sauce could have used a little more flavor. The hot sauce, assuming it is made in house, was excellent and added a much better punch to the seafood. Drinks from the happy hour menu, including the Pink Flamingo and margarita, were good and consistent. I would come back to try more from the main menu. If you like seafood, this is a strong option for the price point and location, especially during happy hour.
