Domo is a cute and cozy sushi spot in Hayes Valley that's perfect for intimate get-togethers. We came by at around 6pm on a weekday without reservations and got seated quickly at the bar. - Small sashimi platter: We were a bit surprised by how small the platter actually ended up being. I believe the sashimi is chef's choice and may vary by day. We both liked the salmon more but probably wouldn't order this again due to the size and price. - Domo Roll: Just had to order the roll named after the restaurant! This was baked (which means it takes a little more cooking time) and decadently sauced. Would recommend for anyone who's a fan of warm, baked sushi rolls. Overall, a tad bit on the pricier side for the amount of food we got, but the experience and service was still pretty good! The other menu items are definitely worth a try as well. :) read more

Small cosy place with fresh delicious food. We came there in a Sunday night and there were a couple of spots available. Rolls came super fast and were really good. We ordered Castro (with different fish), daddy (salmon on top and crunchy inside) and Domo (very juicy baked roll). The staff was nice and helpful and the music nice and chill. such a quaint and cozy dinner spot! my favorite were the nigiris with essentially just fish and the rice because the fish was very fresh but the domo roll was very flavorful and great combination of things and probably a group favorite of ours besides the hotate nigiri because fresh and the right amount of fatty! read more

Came here last night for dinner and it's such a cute neighborhood spot in Hayes Valley! It's a small place so not a lot of seats, you put your name down and once a table opens up you can sit down. We had the warm sake, some rolls and nigiri and it was all pretty tasty! I loved how the seat we had faced the street too it had a cute ambiance to it! Would definitely come back if I was in the mood for sushi and nearby Hayes Valley. read more

Very good sushi close to our area. Yesterday evening we picked up some rolls from this restaurant and we enjoyed them at home. We ordered: - the Castro roll: very good - real crab California roll: easy but very good (when it's real crab you can taste it) - domo roll: good but it was already cold when we ate at home, so it's better to try it at the restaurant - black pearl roll: very delicate (the truffle amount was perfect) - sake toro nigiri (2 pieces): delicious Overall, sushi was fresh and good. read more

5 stars for the poke tacos - they're so perfectly constructed. Fresh fish with a bit of sauce over a perfectly crunchy tempura seaweed, every bite is an incredible balance of flavor and texture. The rolls are fine, but I wished the Black Pearl had a bit more flavor and the Daddy Roll I wish had a bit more fish (the inside of the roll is fried onion + avocado, the only fish is the salmon on top) and it had a pretty strong yuzu flavor (I didn't mind it but my boyfriend did). The Domo roll was my favorite, it's pretty substantial and flavorful thanks to the unagi sauce. All in all, probably my favorite non-fancy sushi spot in the Hayes Valley / Lower Haight area. read more

This gem in Hayes Valley was a lovely casual sushi dinner for our weekday night. We came around 7 and were able to be seated inside immediately. There's not too much seating inside - most of it is counter or hightop tables. There was also some outdoor seating. The spot had a cozy ambience. We got chicken karaage, the IC roll, and the negi hama roll. The chicken karaage was especially crispy and seasoned well. The rolls were fresh and tasty - each had 8 pieces. Our food came out pretty quickly. The price felt average for the area. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be coming back for a sushi fix! read more

Cozy indoor seating. And they have outdoor seating with heat lamps. The high chairs are awkwardly tall for the tables so you're really hunched over. The chairs are also not padded so super uncomfortable. Rice was too wet/mushy. Fish wasn't terrible but a bit stringy for me. I got the Domo roll, negi Hama, and albacore nigiri. read more

Such a cute little spot! They have some outside tables and the inside is mainly 2 bar spaces. We came for a 6pm dinner on a Tuesday and snagged the last open bar seats. The menu is small but classic! The ingredients and fish were all super fresh, and my favorite item was the hamachi crudo! This place is definitely on the pricier side but a nice vibe for good sushi! read more

I came here last week for the first time and I was really satisfied! We ordered the o-toro, dragon roll, spicy tuna roll, their version of a lion king roll and hamachi crudo as an appetizer. My favorites were the hamachi crudo and o-toro nigiri. Both were so delicious and flavorful. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but cozy. With such a tight size of the restaurant, your clothes will smell afterward. I would skip the spicy tuna roll since it wasn't anything special. read more

I thought the sushi was very good, especially the Dino roll. The amount of flavor in every bite was overwhelming delicious. This restaurant is pretty small, with 3 tables outside and a table bar area inside with one other table. It took us sooooo long to get our food. We waited for about an hour and a half. It soured our experience. It seemed like they prioritize to go orders rather than the people waiting in their establishment. read more

This small little restaurant is one you need to go to! Inside there's only one counter and table seating with a few tables outside. It is a first come first serve situation here. My friend and I went around 6 pm and was seated immediately. However, there was a little wait around 7 so keep that in mind. I really enjoyed the counter seating, while looking out onto the street. It was fun eating with my friend and people watch at the same time. As for food, everything was amazing. The fish tacos are something you have to get. The crispy base with the fresh salmon was delicious. We ordered the black pearl roll which is one of their specials (written on their mirror inside). The truffle flavor was very subtle in the roll. I wish I had a bigger but the roll was still good. The Castro roll is a very solid roll as well. Also, the service was kind, quick, and attentive. I have no bad things to say about Domo. A great casual sushi restaurant to go on any given day. read more

This is the definition of what I called neighborhood sushi restaurant. It's small and cozy but not overpriced and you will be getting quality food. We absolutely loved the poke taco - so creative and so flavorful. The avocados on top were also a great touch. Roll wise absolutely loved the Black Pearl and Daddy Roll (tempura onion and a dash of yuzu perfect combo!!) Would recommend if you are looking for sushi and don't want to overspend. read more

A great little neighborhood style sushi bar. Only counter and sushi bar seating. Good quality sushi. I can especially recommend the Black Pearl roll, albacore and scallops with truffle oil. Innovative. Interesting sake selection. We had the Kiki-Masamune Taru, which is aged in cedar casks, giving it a spicy bite. Not your high end Omekase place, but good. read more

Domo is perfectly good sushi for a casual weekend dinner. Their menu offers unique rolls alongside the other items you'd find at a more high-end place - like fresh uni, fatty toro, and more. The rolls are quite a bit smaller than other sushi restaurants, only 6 pieces to a roll. The negitoro maki is my calibration standard against other sushi spots - it was fatty with a healthy amount of green onions. I also loved the salmon crudo - the red onion and ponzu really balanced the richness of the seared salmon sashimi. Super delicious! This is one of the few places in the city where you don't have to pay a fortune for fresh fish - no long waitlist, no $$$$ price tag, and unpretentious in the best way. I am so glad to be near this local Hayes Valley gem. read more

Ordered takeout from here the other night! Just got a couple of sushi rolls. I feel like they didnt have too many options on the apps for speciality rolls but maybe it's different dining in! It was tasty but also thought the rolls were pretty small especially for the price. It's not a favorite sushi spot I'd get again compared to others but it could be different in person! read more

I've been eyeing Domo for a while now because of their suuuper cute outdoor seating set-up. I swung by and tried it for the first time tonight with my pup Simba, and I was VERY impressed by the wonderful service--our server was super nice and very accommodating. :) The sake nigiri was delicious, and the rice was super soft/fresh. Favorite sushi spot in town. Perfect for a date, friends, clients or even solo. They have a fantastic lunch menu and even better dinner menu. You absolutely must try the famous Domo if you enjoy baked rolls. But honestly everything on their menu is delicious. The space is cozy and intimate so be sure to arrive early in case it's rush hour. They don't take reservations but there are a handful of shops to kill time on Hayes until you're seated. If you have the pleasure of meeting Tuya or Vilrex, you're in good hands! read more

I came here as my friend wanted to try this place. 1. Reservation: recommended. They are not a big place and get full fast. 2. Service: very pleasant. Loved the Asian lady who helped our table. 3. Food: The scallop was on a spoon and loved the plating. Rolls tasted good, some where just okay, but a good mixture. 4. Did takeout from Domo on a weeknight when my mom and I were in dire need of comfort food. We ordered a handful of rolls, all classics like negitoro, negihamachi, etc. as well as a few pieces of nigiri (toro, mackerel). I think this makes for a great takeout spot. I don't know if I'd choose to eat in the restaurant (rather small and clearly more for date nights or catching up with a friend), but the quality of fish here was outstanding. I think what sets this spot apart, though, was the rice. Rice is as important as the fish in sushi, and here it was high-quality, and held the proper ratio of vinegar. Chefs kiss! read more

My favorite sushi restaurant in Hayes! The vibes are cozy and intimate. Perfect spot for date night or a 1:1 friend get together. Service is attentive and friendly. Fish is fresh and appetizers are delish!! My personal favorite is the hamachi crudo. I'm a huuuge avo girl and this plate gives a hefty serving of it! The yuzu soy sauce complements this dish really well. I typically get the omakase 12 piece nigiri when I come here and leave satisfied. For $68, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend the salmon belly nigiri as well, as not many places offer this. This restaurant doesn't take reservations and parking can be hard to find, so try to get here early! read more

A lovely, intimate spot in Hayes Valley. Ordered 3 rolls: the negi hama, salmon citron, and spicy tuna. All 3 were absolutely delicious - any sauces used were fairly light, which allowed the fish to shine! The prices were an absolute steal, with each of these rolls being less than $15. Also ordered the maguro nigiri, which comes with 2 pieces. What really stood out to us was the quality and amount of fish used. The ratio of rice to fish was insane; totally worth the money! We love a sushi spot that does not skimp out on the fish :) read more

It just paired so perfectly. - Snow mountain roll: 5/5, love the acidity on this. - Okaeri donburi: 4/5, felt like too much rice for the ingredients that were on it, but still enjoyed it. They also have a really great sake list and our server recommended delicious pairings that went well with each course. I genuinely cannot wait to go back and experience another Omakase here!
