The pain was still not controlled, and when I told the dr I was still in pain he started treating me like a drug seeker "we will not be giving you opioids tonight." Then when I got tired of his smart aleck attitude I asked him if he treated everyone this way. He just kept repeating "do you have any other questions?" Over and over. Then I'd ask him one and he would ask me "do you have any other questions?" I asked him why was he talking to me like a robot. I Then asked to speak to a patient advocate because I knew he was stereotyping me and refusing to treat my pain in an appropriate way. With a smirk on his face he said "it's the middle of the night on a Friday, no one's here but me." Then he walked out. His name was Dr (I use that title loosely) Jeffrey Mason. I will be contacting a patient advocate on Monday and reporting the way he degraded me. The charge nurse and all the other nurses there advocated for me but he wouldn't budge. It was weird. They saw the pain I was in. All he saw was what he wanted to see. People like HIM should not be Dr's.

The front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and showed zero compassion toward patients. What made it worse was the blatant racism. Staff members were visibly unwelcoming toward Asian and Muslim patients, and I personally witnessed them mocking ethnic names -- laughing among themselves in a way that was humiliating and completely unprofessional. This is a medical office, not a place where patients should have to tolerate discrimination. On top of that, their appointment policy is absurd. If you are even five minutes late -- despite traffic, parking, or any other reasonable circumstance -- they will cancel your appointment on the spot and move on without any grace or understanding. No call, no warning, no flexibility whatsoever. This place is not a welcoming environment. The behavior of the staff is harassing, disrespectful, and frankly unacceptable for any business -- let alone a healthcare provider. I urge anyone from a diverse background to look elsewhere for eye care where you will actually be treated with dignity.

Wow, I made an excellent choice. It's a husband and wife and the wife was who I saw. I have all kinds of eye issues so I normally prefer a ophthalmologist. They email me a week later (two days before the appt) and ask for copies of my insurance cards. I send them. All is well? I get to the appt and they're "unable to verify if we accept your insurance - call yourself to find out." (Even though they received my cards.) I call my insurance (on hold for 10 minutes) - NO, they do not accept it. Thanks, VA Eye for wasting 10 days wait time and a 44 mile round-trip drive. My time, my friend's time - who came in case I couldn't drive home. And maybe my eye condition has gotten worse in that 10 day wait. You're just ... the worst.

However, I just was there for an hour before they finally called me back, and since I had a work meeting ( which I thought having allowed 2.5 hours of time there would be enough room) that I had to get to, I had no choice but to cancel and leave. They wanted to reschedule, but I declined. I know they would not hesitate to charge me a cancellation fee if I were an hour late with no heads up (as they should), so I will go to a different practice where my time is respected. The PA and VCU refuse to respond to the dashboard and patient experience messages. I don't know if she hates men or veterans but don't go if you need help.
