a sunset view of a dock and boats

What a beautiful little place, right on the waterfront. Had a small snack in the evening time and watched the sunset. Their focaccia bread was so soft. Will be back to try their meals.

This is an exceptional restaurant in the most idyllic setting on the Hudson River. The menu is diverse and full of elevated comfort food, something many restaurants claim to serve and fall short of. Our server was patient as our party thought about our order (for maybe a bit too long). My salad was crisp and flavorful, the chilled asparagus soup had a depth of flavor only extremely fresh ingredients could produce, and my soft-shelled crab sandwich was the best I've tasted. I was happy to see my picky daughter actually be nourished at a restaurant as she wolfed down a side of haiga rice with a crispy cauliflower appetizer, only to have some of the most delicious macaroni and cheese (I was lucky to be granted a bite of) for her dinner. The dessert menu was amazing as well; the locally-sourced soft-serve ice cream was delicious and the chocolate pudding was otherworldly. I should also mention the thoughtful drink menu. There are complex cocktails, an interesting wine list, and a well-curated selection of craft beer both on draft and in the can/bottle.

Delightful view.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this place. It was recommended, particularly the mushrooms, by the Australian in the amazing map store around the corner (definitely check it out). I ordered a couple of apps- the clam toast and mushrooms - I asked if I could just have it w/o toast because I have celiacs. It arrived w toast, and I started to have to explain I couldn't eat it blah blah blah and then was told it was gluten free toast. Huzzah! Delicious. Very garlicky and perfect for not getting sick! Then he asked if I wanted anything else... he forgot to put in the mushrooms. It turns out the mushrooms couldn't be made gluten free. Fair enough. So I asked about the shrimp tacos, he said no- the tortilla! I said some people have corn tortillas. So I ordered dessert instead. He came back and said there were corn tortillas! Great, in business! Scrimp tacos, beautifully cooked, but in need of hot sauce/ salsa/ something. I asked for tobacco or something spicy and got the most delicious green salsa. Wonderful. Went to order tea and I asked if there was a non dairy milk, my server said absolutely not. So With previous experience in hand, I asked if he could check. And there was oat milk. Done! So I'm short, the kitchen will bend over backwards to give you a lovely gluten-free, dairy-free meal if you just ask and maybe ask again. Maybe this waiter was new, or never had to find out the answers to these questions (or maybe just French- he did soften when I spoke to him in his native language) but in the end I had a lovely meal, with a great view, it just took a little to get there. Bit pricey for what is is, but a nice treat.

There are more tables than these, but I liked this photo. Good luck deciding who gets to have the seat with the view!

Not sure why Dolly's is featured more for desserts -- don't get me wrong, their baked goods are spectacular, it's just that their meal food is wonderful too! I have gone several times for brunch, and have never been disappointed. The menu is small, but what's on it is super delicious. I mostly go for the veggie burger, which comes with some garlic aioli on the side. Their fries are thin cut and cooked perfectly. And I love their coffee! They also take reservations, which is fabulous especially on the weekends. And you can't beat the view of the Hudson River. Everyone who works there is super nice as well; just know that it is a small place that fills up, and so this is a place to go when you are not in a rush and can just sit and enjoy time with your dining companions while taking in a beautiful view!

We came across this restaurant right after a hike, it's proximity to the train station and breathtaking view along the water made it an ideal choice to end our day at. Atmosphere + great outdoor seating under a canopy and heating lamps provided for a enjoyable experience as a refuge from the cold. It's always challenging finding outdoor seating in the winter that is comfortable. + great view along the water. Staff + very friendly server who took our order + practiced safe covid guidelines Food Was a bit disappointed with the food. The menu looked good but the execution of it was underwhelming + cauliflower nuggets were delicious - wasn't expecting a beer battered deep fried chicken wings - the taste was a bit off (vinegary) and the sauce provided we weren't a fan of. - fries were fresh but were blanched in water and vinegar which gave them a distinct aftertaste which we collectively weren't fans of - crispy fried cod sandwich was dry and bland + burger with bacon and sautéed onions were pretty delicious. + good beer and wine selection Overall: While it was a lovely restaurant, and staff was friendly and welcoming, the food was very underwhelming for the premium that was being charged. It would be helpful if the way the food was prepared which while rather uniquely was in the description to give customers clear expectations of what to expect.

Located in the Garrison train station, expanded and renovated from what was the famous Guinan's (read the book "Little Chapel on the River" by Gwendolyn Bounds). Now offering, small plates and big plates, along with beer and wine or a cocktail at the bar. The location is convenient to train in or out and the setting on the river offers contemporary charm. The coffee shop opens at 6:45 am for commuters heading to work and the bar opens at 4:00 pm for those who escape early. Give it a try!

Pricey, but a delicious burger. I'd go back for a longer stay with drink, entrees, drinks, dessert with the right person. :-)

We had an overall, great experience from start to finish. Takeaways: Dinner: 8.6/10 - subjective Debra (bartender): 10/10 (god dam she makes a drink - and you WANT to be around her). Night cap espresso martinis in the room were amazing! Breakfast (8:30-10:00am): 9/10 (could not believe how good that was for 'complimentary breakfast' which makes people nervous ) The Room: 7.8/10 - older but clean. This is an inn!! Quaint quiet clean - the bedroom TV didn't work - disappointing before bed, but not the reason we're here. Also, maid forgot hand soap for the room. FUN moment: we made (hand) soap at one of shops on Main Street- (cost $3.48 , had a lot left over lol) - was a fun oversight that made me make soap, by chance! Overall Service: 9.5/10. From the front desk to every waitstaff encountered , what a (small) lovely staff who truly makes you feel welcomed, not a bother in anyway and happy to be there. Sometimes a venue makes the experience special and sometimes the service makes the venue special. They are why we will return. This was a fun, easy, overnight that we're looking forward to turning into a tradition. We have walked passed for years and never been in until this past weekend! Thank you for hosting us and we look forward to being back!

We found Benny Havens on Yelp and thought it looked worth a try. This place is what it is, a local institution that does what it does; if you want something else, go someplace else. It is of course unabashedly an Army bar. Sure it's a dive, but in the coziest, best sense of the word. The owner and staff were welcoming and the food was simple and honest. All they have is hamburgers/cheeseburgers and wings, and fries or onion rings! That's it! We had cheeseburgers and fries/onion rings and everything was fresh and tasty. The bar is a great big wooden thing and I bet it has stories to tell. The beer was cold and the whiskey tasty. It's cash only, so bring your greenbacks. I don't often have reason to stop at places like Benny Havens, but every time I do, I wonder why I don't visit more often.

We came for the burgers - and must admit was wary of going to a little pub for food- but they did not disappoint! The burgers were big and juicy and tasted like they had been grilled on a backyard bbq. (So good I forgot to snap a photo!) The fries were light and crispy (similar to McDonalds). We tried the chicken wings as well. They are fried and not as juicy as I typically like, but had a good flavor. It's a limited menu but there's a little something for everyone (chicken tenders, burgers, onion rings, mozzarella sticks). The waitress and bartender were both very kind and friendly to myself and my son, who were visiting West Point Academy for the weekend. We also met a couple of WP Alums who were meeting up and very nice and welcoming to us both. Def recommend if you're in town for a local experience - swing by for a burger and a beer!

We had a party of 10, and thankfully they were able to accommodate us in the very back of the restaurant, which ended up being a great spot for our group. Service was a bit on the slower side, and we would have appreciated a few more check-ins throughout the meal. Nothing terrible, but noticeable--especially with a larger group. If you're gluten-free, just know the options are somewhat limited. That said, I was able to customize the breakfast burrito into a bowl to skip the tortilla, which worked out well and was still satisfying. The table shared the pancakes with cinnamon butter, which were a big hit. The breakfast burrito was also really popular, and a few people ordered the quiche special, which got great feedback as well. One downside is the bathroom situation--there's only one unisex restroom for the entire restaurant, so there was pretty much a line the whole time. Parking is metered street parking with a 4-hour limit, which is manageable but something to keep in mind if you're planning a longer visit. On the plus side, being seated in the back made it quiet enough for us to actually enjoy conversation, which isn't always the case at brunch spots. While the pricing felt a bit high for the overall value, the food and atmosphere made it a worthwhile experience. It's a bit of a drive for me, so not somewhere I'd visit regularly, but it's located in a really cute town with plenty of shops to explore--nice if you want to make a day out of it. Overall, a charming spot with good food and a cozy vibe. I'd come back, just hoping for a bit more attentive service next time.

The sandwich had raw onions which did nothing for the taste, it would have been better if it was caramelized. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and it was so dense. I've had lemon ricotta pancakes and they are fluffy and smooth but this was neither. My friend and I were sitting outside and we finished paying and decided to go inside to use the bathroom. The hostess and her kid see us going inside and tell us no, stop, where are you going? I told her we are going to use the bathroom. We were eating outside. The hostess did not apologize for her rudeness and just said okay. The place is small, and the hostess herself literally brought us to our table and she didn't remember. The food was mid and the hostess needs better customer service skills. Plus the outdoor seating could be better, the table was wobbly and the table was iron mesh so you could see that they don't clean because you could see cobwebs through it.

I got in very late and Patton's was the only restaurant inside Thayer still serving food at 9 pm. I needed a stiff drink at this point, and took my chances on a dirty martini which came out with just the right amount of olive juice and really hit the spot. We put in a chips and guac order, and our mains. The food took a while to come out and service was a bit slow (also, the apps came out with the main food which kind of defeated the purpose of ordering an app). But I'm willing to overlook all of that because the prime rib hoagie with onion rings was so freaking good. Tender meat, lots of onions and cheese, juicy and served on a freshly toasted roll. The onion rings were crispy and airy without being too doughy. I was so happy. The guac was good too but I wish it came with actual chips, not plantains.
