I came to Patton's Tavern during my recent stay at Thayer Hotel with extremely low expectations. Little did I know I was about to have the best onion rings of my life inside this tiny unassuming hotel restaurant. I got in very late and Patton's was the only restaurant inside Thayer still serving food at 9 pm. I needed a stiff drink at this point, and took my chances on a dirty martini which came out with just the right amount of olive juice and really hit the spot. We put in a chips and guac order, and our mains. The food took a while to come out and service was a bit slow (also, the apps came out with the main food which kind of defeated the purpose of ordering an app). But I'm willing to overlook all of that because the prime rib hoagie with onion rings was so freaking good. Tender meat, lots of onions and cheese, juicy and served on a freshly toasted roll. The onion rings were crispy and airy without being too doughy. I was so happy. The guac was good too but I wish it came with actual chips, not plantains. Staff is absolutely lovely here, very friendly and taking care of lots of people on a busy night. Had a French onion soup that was surprisingly tasteless - the cheese, onions, and broth was bland. The Caesar salad was so drowned in Parmesan that I tried to scrape some off, and it was fine. Chicken was cold / salty, telling me it was pre-cooked. A little bit of tweaking could go a long way, because the history and ambience of the location can't be beat. read more

This is one of the two places to sit and eat at the Thayer hotel. Both had similar menus but this was a more casual setting, so my boyfriend and I decided to eat here. Jason was our server and he was fantastic! He was constantly checking on our table making sure everything was okay. The menu for this place didn't have French Onion soup (the restaurant did). Jason knew I wanted it and was able to accommodate me which was extremely amazing of him. This particular French Onion made it to the top 5 list of the best French Onions I have ever had in my life. My boyfriend wound up getting a burger which he devoured so I assume he like it and I got the Turkey Club, with a side of truffle fries. Everything was delicious! Because I enjoyed my meal so much, I had to try some dessert. I got the Creme Brûlée which was also really good. The bar also offers some great views of the Hudson River and mountains which is also a nice plus. If you are staying here or just in the area and want a place to sit drink and relax, this place does the trick. read more

This place was poppin after a hockey game on a friday night. Had a very diverse crowd which I was not expecting, age wise. Had loud, boisterous 30 something men at the bar area, families at tables, international couples on dates, and then us weirdos hahaha Anyway drinks were great but they need to remember to check on ppl for refills more often. Prices weren't too terrible and the moscow mule was pretty good that they made-- a little light on the vodka tho. We visited West Point because my friend is a retired Army Colonel. He served in excess of 30 years!!! (Yaaaas!!!). Ok...so back to the review. While at The Point, we stayed at the Thayer Hotel, a wonderful old world hotel that was the temporary home for many US Army notables and a Philippine President (not Duterte). We got in late and opted to have dinner at the main restaurant, MacArthur's. After we scanned the menu but didn't find anything we were in the mood for, we were informed by the waitstaff that if we wanted a more casual menu, Patton's Tavern, located upstairs, could provide that. Since we were looking for something relatively quick and light, we went upstairs. Big mistake. It took 20 minutes for anyone to come over...and that was after choosing our table. Interestingly enough, this was also after the server from MacArthur's accompanied us to Patton's Tavern and explained to the server there that we initially had been downstairs. When another young lady came over with the menus, she had a very crabby attitude; it was as though she was being inconvenienced somehow. When the server finally came, she was a bit nicer. But that was it. Despite the clear fact that the wobbly table needed wiping down, we had to ask for it to be cleaned; while we waited, we picked up some bar napkins to fix the wobble. We ordered a salad, wings, onion rings, avocado toast, water and a mojito. The food and mojito were average...nothing special at all. No water refills despite being asked. When we were ready for the bill, we had to go to the bar to get it because after the food was delivered, we never saw the server at our table again. As he was paying, my friend told the bartender about the poor service. After receiving a bunch of irrelevant excuses for the poor service, my friend received an apology and was offered a drink...he doesn't drink. I do on occasion but surely didn't want another drink...the first mojito classico was awful. If you are visiting West Point, do stay at the Thayer but most definitely eat elsewhere. As my friend so aptly phrased it, "the juice was not worth the squeeze." read more

Don't let my photo of the prime rib sandwich fool you. It looks great, but it was so dry I could barely eat it. Plus it was pretty bland. The soup was good. I felt like I was eating food from the mess hall to be honest. Nice bar, and great selection of single malt scotch. Some really cool photos of the old Army football team. Nice views of the river. The bartender was nice. The ONLY downside is the bland food. read more

Horrible experience. Without a doubt this bar is the worst part of the Thayer Hotel and should be avoided. The bar itself is appropriately well designed and a unique experience. However, the bartenders and staff are uniquely rude. Yes, they will treat you with disdain, yes they will stare awkwardly at you while you ear your meal, and yes they will close early on a Saturday night despite how full the bar is. It's like the customers are the subject of a dare between the bartenders to see just how rude a server can be. The attitude of the bartenders and staff at this bar is the opposite of the rest of the West Point experience. read more

After finishing a round of golf at the West Point Golf Club, my husband and I went to Patton's Tavern at the Thayer Hotel for an early dinner. We were very happy we did! We each had an excellent burger - one rare and one medium rare. They were both cooked perfectly! They must have been at least 1/3 of a pound if not more, and the French fries were very good too. I don't usually leave reviews, but felt compelled to do so because I do honestly think there have been changes since some of the more negative reviews. With that... We ate lunch here and had a very positive and enjoyable experience. We had the burgers and the cobb salad, all very delicious. I believe there is a new chef, so I wouldn't go by older reviews when it comes to the food. The staff was also very friendly. The bartender went out of his way to get our two year old a custom lunch (she's not a picky eater at all, he just did it out of kindness) and the young woman who served the table was very friendly and checked on us the right amount of times. I personally think this is worth giving a shot. You also can't beat the views of the Hudson. read more

Excellent ambiance with OK food and service. We had the Ruben and an appetizer. Both were OK but not memorable. The food is decent, but limited, with prices in the $10-16 dollar range. The drink prices are apparently aimed at tapping into all the money a family saves sending a child to West Point... $7 bottled beer and drafts are somewhat absurd. We arrived at The Thayer Hotel on the afternoon of Easter Sunday (they served 1600 for brunch) and ate dinner in Patton's Tavern. The bartender had worked all morning/afternoon and still managed to be efficient and very nice despite the fact that he was way overworked and exhausted. The ambience at Patton's is great and overlooks the Hudson River and the rear grounds of The Thayer Hotel. Old pub feeling, with an excellent selection of drinks and a small pub menu. We ordered a couple of club sandwiches, a burger and a chicken tenders for my little dude. The food was not outstanding, but it was exactly what was advertised and pretty good for hotel pub grub. The bartender went out of his way to make sure our glasses were full and we had everything we needed - worth the extra star. Patton's was completely full and this guy was hustling to be a bartender and waiter for the whole place. Since there is no decent food in Highland Falls, Patton's Pub is a good place for an simple meal if you are staying in The Thayer Hotel. It's not a destination restaurant, but give it a shot if you are on property. Solid 3.5 stars. read more

Late on a Thursday night enjoyed 2 fabulous burgers, sweet potato fries & onion rings (a little bit too crunchy). Admittedly, it was late, nearly empty, we were greeted promptly, the fireplace was fired up & the server was pleasant. We did wait a bit for H2O refills, not knowing the routine was to "ring your server" using the silent bell at the table. (So that's what that was, never saw that b4.) Food order took 30 minutes. When the burger, side salad and side order of fries came out, fries and burger were cold. Grossly under staffed. Bartenders were overwhelmed. And it was not a full bar. No drink menu so if you're not sure what you're in the mood for, you're out of luck for ideas. The bartenders were friendly but when asked for suggestions, suggested the basic standard drinks for women (Midori sour and bay breeze ...both too sweet for my taste) and then suggested wine. I went with the wine he suggested (New Haven Sauvingnon Blanc) but was disappointed because it just didn't taste that good. We only went because the weather was bad and we were staying in the hotel. I was at the Thayer Hotel for a wedding a few weeks ago. After reading about the signature cocktails at Patton's Tavern on their website I was surprised to see there was actually no drink menu when I went for lunch. I ordered the pear arugula flatbread with goat cheese (mainly for the goat cheese because I love cheese), and when it arrived it turned out to be a huge pile of arugula on flat bread with one slice of pear and zero cheese. We were here for a ceremony at west point. The hotel is very nice so we went to the bar. I dont know his name so its going to have to suffice that the black dude bartender with glasses is incompetent and essentially ignored us the whole time. I practically had to beg for a drink and the check. If you stay at this hotel BYOB!!!! After my date and I had several premium (tanqueray and kettle one) drinks we still had to flag down the dude with the glasses away from his counting his tips. Anyway, if you walk in and see this guy leave immediately!! Go to the store and buy your own and bring it to your room and avoid having to beg for a drink. read more

Painfully slow service today, with bartender/waiter (Alex?) sole employee and my tiny group as sole diners. Waiter asked us what time it was when we sat down. We told him 1:30. He said ok, since lunch starts at 1pm. Shouldn't he know the time, and that the restaurant has opened? Service was agonizingly slow as was waiting for the check. The food was decent. The restrooms, which are part of the Hotel Thayer's lobby, were unspeakable. The mens' room smelled like my junior high's bathroom and the ladies' room had no paper towels. The amazing view is begging for a second star but I just can't get over having to tell the restaurant that they were, indeed, open and that we were properly seating ourselves.
