The TJ Maxx line of stores have always fascinated me…read more The three brands - WInners, Homesense and Marshall's - have made their trade in being a glorified clearance store for many low and mid-range brands, and this location in Clarkson is no exception. I'd argue that it's the perfect fit for the Clarkson community, as it accurately sums the sleepy, docile nature of the community. I ended up coming here to kill a few hours and get in on some late Boxing Day shopping after the New Year, and was extremely surprised to find that half the store was on clearance. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that a good 40-50% of the goods on sale were either marked with tags or set up on "Clearance" endcaps, which was extremely amusing considering there was SO MUCH of it still on display. $2 packs of PUR gum, dirt-cheap Christmas and designer decorations, all sorts of weird food items for pennies on the dollar... makes the mind boggle with how much product is back there that they struggle to sell it all even with 80-90% discounts. One thing I'll definitely give the store credit for is that it's generally very quiet, the service is prompt, and you're generally bound to find something you want, whether it's a weird knick-knack or a book that interests you. In the end, we ended up buying a bunch of themed Christmas foods (including peppermint bark coffee liqueur and chocolate candy-cane shaped shortbread cookies), along with some odds and ends. I find I like visiting here every time in the area. Despite it's similar layout and product offerings as Winners (take out the men's/women's fashion and you have Homesense), the service and selection put it a cut above. Definitely a worthwhile anchor store in Clarkson Village Plaza.

Size-wise, this Homesense was not as impressive as the ones that I've been to at Bathurst/Centre (Thornhill) or even Vaughan Mills. It's on the smaller size, HOWEVER, the benefit is that it's waaay quieter than those other locations. Actually, it's probably even quieter than any Winners that I've been to! The location definitely has a part to play in that "been transported back in time" feeling. There's no sense of urgency or rush, just relaxation. I had a question about what was included in a package of bedding - it wasn't stated on the label - and the sales associate, who was doing something else at the time, actually went to another associate to find out for me. Who does that nowadays? If I were in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here 'cause I don't like shopping in crowded places.

I had picked one main blue aluminum balloon, two white balloons and two gray balloons, but by the time air was put into them, they were almost all white balloons and didn't go with the bouquet. I had to add a blue balloon to add some pop for colour. When I got home, I noticed a balloon had a 'Mr. & Mrs' on it which didn't go with my birthday balloons. The sales girl obviously noticed that, but couldn't be bothered to tell me of my mistake in picking that balloon . And after paying almost $16 for liquid filling and helium for all the balloons, not even 24 hours later all of them except for the aluminum balloon were deflated to the floor. I figured the loose balloons they sold are old and therefore leaks. If you bought the prepackaged silver foil balloons they would last, as mine did. I will never go back there again. Terrible service & old products used. Here is a before and after, within the 24hr period of what my balloons looked like!

The outrage that I had was unexpected! I did a search and found this one in Mississauga. It didn't take long to get here from downtown Oakville. It was around ten minutes. I pulled into Millway Shopping Centre (it's really a plaza) and didn't have a problem finding a parking spot. I backed into one and headed over to the store. There was a female panhandler in front of the store that was asking for money. It was my second time being asked for change in front of a Giant Tiger. The problem is that I don't carry change with me, especially during a pandemic when I pay using either a credit or debit card. I told her that detail and walked into the store. I like that there's a greeter at the store when you walk in these days. It's twofold. It's to make sure that the store doesn't exceed the maximum capacity of folks shopping. It is also to check that you're wearing a mask. She was nice and said hi. I reciprocated. My goal was to get avocados and celery. I achieved it with flying colours. There were two displays of avocados. One display had ripe ones. The other one wasn't as ripe. I always get the six-pack of avocados and they are cheap at under $3. I saw a woman taking celery out of a box and putting them into the produce section. I asked if she could hand me a couple from the box. She was great and handed them over to me. They were so fresh. I felt so VIP with my celery! Although I haven't done much shoe browsing during this pandemic, I loved the sneakers here. Sadly, they offer women's shoe sizes from 6 to 9. Such a bummer for someone who swears a size 11! I haven't seen Squishmallows at Giant Tiger stores in months. It was the case at this store. Instead, I looked at larger baby Yoda plushies. I had enough willpower to not buy one. There wasn't a huge lineup at the checkout. I had a nice woman help cash me out. I decided to finally sign up for GT VIP mailing list and took a leaflet on how to do it. She was nice. I paid, got my goodies, and wished her a good day. I realize that this visit was my first at any Giant Tiger in Mississauga. I tend to visit GT stores in Etobicoke, Scarborough, and Stouffville the most. It's nice that I'm doing the GT tour these days. I had a great experience here. I'd return when I'm in the neighbourhood again. (105)

In the summer they hand racks of clothing that are on mega sale outside for you to browse. I find giant tiger best for inexpensive basics - sweatpants for $9, packs of bras and underwear pretty affordable. I've also purchased house items such as small carpets and shelving here. My most recent trip was to secure a pair of snow pants so I can walk outside on the chilly days. They only had about 6 pairs of black snow pants hanging on a rack with minimal sizing this time - I guess people had the same idea as me and beat me to it. I grabbed a pair that were a bit larger for me but could be tied. For the amount i'd use them - $30 seemed fine? They were shiny in the material and basically looked like i was wearing garbage bags but - it's fine. I roamed to the mens side of things and ended up trying on a smaller mens size with a more muted black material - winner! They were also $5 cheaper than the woman's - score! Are they flattering? NO. Will they keep my tush warm next week when I attempt to go skiing? YES.

It occurred to me that I needed to pick up some items here. I checked out this store. I normally don't go to a Dollarama at a mall. Chances are that it will be more crowded than going to a standalone store. I was right. This store is by mall entrance 9. You take the elevator down to the store. There's also an elevator if you need one. This store was pretty busy. I liked what it had to offer. Pepsi products greeted me. I liked the Mickey Mouse set with a whisk, towel, and spatula. It was cheerful and cute. The ice cube trays were cool. I liked the larger cube moulds. They were bright and had silicone at the bottom of each cube, allowing you to easily pop cubes out for your refreshments. The snacks and drinks aisles were impressive. I liked the variety. The chip selection was excellent. I came here for pasta sauce and macaroni. I found everything that I needed. I headed to the cashout area. There was one human cashier. There were roughly eight self-checkout kiosks there. I used the latter. It's hit or miss using one at Dollarama. Sometimes, it's smooth sailing. Other times, it seems to want to give me a hard time. Luckily, I was able to scan my two items and pay without any issues. I didn't buy a lot. I had parked a good distance away from this store, so carrying them wasn't an issue. If I had made a larger purchase, I wouldn't have been as happy lugging everything that far away. It's a good store. It's convenient if you are at the mall and need something. I still like hitting standalone Dollarama stores that aren't as crowded as this one. (47)
