As someone who used to work here.. I can assure you all the negative reviews are not the manager's or worker's fault. Yes, there has been a few workers who weren't the best, and should've treated the situation better. However, half the time they were being snarky with you, it is because the customer leaving the review was being unreasonable and we neeeded manager intervention. I was an asm, and needed my store manager to intervene many times.
The .01 review, we could get fired for selling it to you even if you offered to pay full price. The computer would also halt any further progress into the transaction without manager approval. That was company policy, and half the time the manager isn't in the office and is unable to see the email that we can't sell it until they're getting off their break and have a quick second to check emails.
The bathrooms, there have been many, MANY unsavory characters using them for drugs and leaving needles or fet**yl pills all over the floor or uncovered in the trash can. They would also use the public restroom to clean themselves up in the sink, and leave the dirty water all over the floor. We have even had customers use our buckets we sold, urinate in them, and leave them in the store. Some of the unsavory characters listed above would also urinate or defecate in a cup, bottle, or even bag, and leave them in the aisles where children could access them. And with only one cashier and manager on duty 90% of the time, we usually couldn't catch them before a customer comes up and informs us, because we were always trying to hurry and get the stock up.
Speaking about the reviews on the shelves, the reviews about stock left on the floor, I'm very sorry about that but you came in on our truck days. Trucks usually came around noon, and we tried to get the product up as soon as we could. But again, with usually only one cashier or manager on duty, it got difficult. We were only given enough hours from the District Manager for the one cashier and one manager, and on truck days MAYBE two additional freight crew to empty it.
The review about the masks, we were not allowed to enforce masks on the customers, because they could have underlying health conditions preventing them. We were also not allowed to ask what the health condition was, whether it was a 'law' or not. However, we did have to stop people outside many times because we were at capacity for COVID guidelines, and we did enforce masks on the employees until corporate told us we no longer had to wear them unless we were back at work after having COVID.
The shelves being messed up with product, and messy: Once again, we were barely given enough hours for one manager and one cashier. Our cashiers very rarely were able to leave the register, and the manager usually didn't get very much chance to either. We were supposed to have a scheduled person specifically for Recovery (cleaning up the shelves and make them look nice), but the District Manager did not let us go over hours to have one, or even someone to come in early in the morning to stock some, if not most weeks. We also cannot control what corporate sends us, so our selection is not the worker's or manager's fault. Neither is the prices, but I didn't realize that needed to be stated.
I do not work here anymore, thank god. I stuck around for five years ONLY for my manager and coworkers, and I would still do anything I can for them. That was the best workplace family I have ever had. Though the District Manager and the company were definitely not my favorite. 4 stars only for the people actively working there. Not 5 because the District Manager and the company. read more
