    Incompetence
    Alex B.

It's a dollar tree... you know what you get yourself into by coming in these. Low or weird quality items and long lines. This one has A LOT of party type stuff, anything that a kids bday party could need takes up an entire wall of the store, but what I like here is the amount of craft supplies that can be found. Usually they're smaller things but there's some decent finds such as all the unfinished wood items. I also enjoy the regional snacks and drinks you're bringing in from other places. What I despise is the massive line almost everytime I come in at almost any of your stores, but in particularly this one I'm reviewing. There's also people almost always arguing with each other here over the line itself or with whatever the cashier is saying. Pretty sure only 2 people work here at a time at any given hour in a day, and that means 1 is at the register and the other is hiding inside that mirror window manager box. I've never seen more than 1 line open even if everyone's complaining vocally that they need another register opened. I went in the other day and there were 8 people ahead of me, and 2 lines were forming behind a single line, because there was no room for people to stand and nothing in control of where the line is supposed to go. Another man brought in a very large dog that was barking at people and making them uncomfortable. The man with the dog started getting attitude with people about the line splitting because he felt people were cutting him in line. He had this big dog to intimidate people with, so he got a few people to move out of his way in line, so I just left instead of arguing because this store has no control. I wasn't interested in yet another ex-con wanting to fight in Dollar Tree. The old woman at the register was taking an absolute eternity to get through each customer and she's the only visible employee my entire visit. They had another 6 people behind me as I was leaving and they were all trying to figure out where the line was, and we had been standing there for several minutes already without taking any step forward. I know how this type of store works. They don't care. They barely survive due to the margin they make money off of each item. So you can't expect any type of service and you can't expect really anything of this place whatsoever, other than waiting in a long line and probably having some rando try and get into a fight with you. The cashier is an empty drone. The store opens and sells items because it exists, not because anyone actually wants to be there. I'm also pretty sure I've been here in this cycle with Dollar Tree before where you've really pissed me off and I give it some time and come back, but I think I need to break this cycle of insanity and stay away permanently now. I don't expect your employees to bust out and defend me and kick the man with the dog out and speed up the line because I've arrived at checkout, but this is just the type of experiences I've come to accept with Dollar Tree and I can't do it anymore.

Palmers use to be so exclusive

DollarTree had plenty healthy snacks, and bought most of them. I only went in for cleaning products... Then, it was like brandname, gluten-free, awww I was raised with that... And I can deal with those groceries for a little bit because I'm single. More than half added up to over-priced because of the size. But this isn't a bulk savings store. It's like use now and that's it. So, one of everything's good. There's seasonal decorations, greeting cards, books and probably everything for basic everyday living. Great prices at a buck or under for everything in the store.

The best Dollar Tree within a 20 mile radius. Hands down! The storage section alone is far superior than other locations.

I had to pick up a belt as I lost mine, a note book since I left it behind on the bus and some candy 'cause well I wanted to and it was cheap.

The DISCOUNT PLACE (aka "98"), Whomever it was who coined…read morethe term "Hole in the wall" could've easily been referring to this tiny general merchandise store hidden deep inside an unkempt mini-strip mall in the heart of Scum Valley. Opps sorry, I meant to say Sun Valley.... The store is difficult to spot from the main street, Sunland Blvd, and is completely invisible from Nettleton, the adjoining street. The best way to visit this local gem is via the alley behind the mall which begins off of Nettleton Street. Park in any of the first 5 parking spaces and the nose of your car will be pointing directly at this bodega. As I said, this place is TINY, maybe 300 to 400 square feet of floor space max! Yet, despite their small size somehow they almost always seem to have the item I need on a shelf waiting for me. For example: A few days ago, following a shopping expedition to Target & CVS, I found that I was still "in need" of a few odd items; an extension telephone cable, a female 2 female coupler, some utility candles, and some butane fuel for a camping stove. Believe it or not they had them all and the best part is: I paid only .98 cents each! (ALMOST everything is at that price point here.) I do have one complaint, which cost them a star, they recently began charging customers .10 for carryout bags. Yes, I can hear some of you thinkin: 'So what dude, lots of stores charge for bags in LA cause its' the law. All the stores are doing it, Duh.' It is a fact that "all" stores seem to be suddenly charging this bag-tax but only a specific few are required to do so. Many, like this shop are exempt but want to charge me anyway, which irritates me. Additionally, stores, such as this one, collect the fee and then give you the type of plastic bag that has been banned from use by the same law which establishes the tax! The law states that a store with sales over 1 mil./yr must provide either paper bags or reusable plastic bags (meaning the bag must be able to be used carry something like 20 lbs. for at least 50- 100 x's). IT SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITS plastic single use bags, PERIOD. Obviously, this is a new pet peeve of mine...so if it is not an issue to you, then uh never-mind. The store is open daily from 8 to 8 and seems to be family owned/operated. Due to the imminent opening of a Dollar Tree store less than a quarter of a mile away this business' days may be numbered. So If you find yourself anywhere in the area and are thinkin of going to the .99 Cent Store to get something...GO TO THE DISCOUNT PLACE and help out a neighbor instead. You'll get a Gold Star for the day if you do! Oh, one last thing...the name is almost misleading, the prices on an item by item basis are the same as elsewhere. I have never found any real bargains there, at least not price-wise. Ciao fer now! D

Every Thursday (which is when Art gets in his pallets of new inventory), she says to me "Happy Smarty's Day!" You just never know what you are going to find here. We have gotten the following items in the past year or two: a brand new Samsung dishwasher (a model that had only been on the market for five months, new in the box for over $700 off retail price!), a Ninja Creamy ice cream machine, Instant Pot lid that turns it into an air fryer, Dyson and Shark vacuum cleaners for hundreds off list price, deck boxes and hose reels for the backyard, a new microwave, an amazing array of plastic storage bins in all sizes for the garage/storage locker...and that's just off the top of my head! Going to Smarty's is our weekly treasure hunt. More than once, my daughter has bemoaned that she bought something elsewhere only to find it later at Smarty's for a fraction of the price. On the rare occasion that something we bought ended up damaged after we opened the box (which does happen from time to time, given the nature of the business of buying pallets of stuff from Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.), Art has always made good and given us a full refund. I am almost loathe to tell people about this store because I want to keep these amazing, secret deals all to myself, but I also want Art to stay in business forever. Thanks, Art! What a complete scam. Almost everything they sent was **expired or on the verge of expiring**. Chips tasted stale and rancid, candy was rock-hard and stuck together, snacks had that weird off smell, and the drinks were either flat or way past their sell-by dates. I'm talking boxes upon boxes of junk that should've been thrown out months ago. This wasn't a few bad items -- it was the **majority** of the shipment. I opened case after case only to find expiration dates from 3, 6, even 9 months ago. Who the hell sells expired food and drinks in bulk like this?! These crooks are preying on small businesses and resellers who expect wholesale products to at least be fresh. **Warning to everyone:** If you're stupid enough to order from Elite Wholesale, check **every single label and expiration date** the second your order arrives. Don't trust a word they say. They'll swear everything is fresh and current, but it's mostly old, expired crap they're trying to unload. Total waste of money. I had to throw out or heavily discount most of what I bought. My customers complained, I lost sales, and now I'm stuck with a bunch of garbage I can't sell. **Elite Wholesale is a shady, low-quality operation.** Save your money and your reputation -- stay far away from these expired-food pushers. **Zero stars.
