This is one store that I visit often, and as a regular patorn, I have witnessed a slight decline at this location: workplace team spirit. There was once a time when this Dollar General Market was a pleasant place, continuing on with the hospitality and tradition of what I recall when Young's Market was still in business. The building is now transformed to Dollar General Market, which offers a convenient assortment of basic goods, and features an exciting seasonal aisle. But with that being said, service is one thing that this location seems to struggle with.
There is a very negative energy between the workers here, and this is so apparent even at the moment a customer enters through the automatic doors. As a result of the low morale (possibly carried down the store's chain of command), the workers are not exuding genuine happiness, nor positivity. There are always bad days when we go to work, but it seems as if every day is a bad day for the employees at this Dollar General Market. When one vistis this location, it is especially disheartening to find that an employee is being berated and repremaded while on the sales floor by his or her superior. I for one have witnessed some sort of workplace mistreatment on each of my visits of late 2013 through present 2014.
There is a harshness about the way business flows in this store; I truly feel sorry for the workers and managers who must endure very large work loads each shift. This store really needs to change the way employees are treated, and how they communicate with each other. Truly, these two factors directly influence the customer's experience with the store environment.
On a happier note, there is the occasional cheerful cashier who does not let the mistreatment from bosses interfere with the way they perform their duties. It is inspiring to see young men and women working to make a better life for themselves, just putting up with whatever hardships they face while on the job. The rarities of this Dollar General Market, the friendly cashiers, are truly the heart and soul of this establishment. Other than the great prices on many items, these hard-working survivors are what motivates me to even return once more.
The store is pretty well maintained as far as cleanliness goes, and the bright lighting is great. This location earns points for presentation, but does not for the way its employees are treated. Dollar General Market is a truly convenient store that offers merchandise that is accessible to many budgets. There are always savings waiting! Three stars. read more
