When you come into this bright discount store it looks welcoming with fun upbeat pop music playing. But I don't know what it is with so many discount stores, the floors were dirty. As I walked around the store it was a bit messy. I do imagine it's hard to keep a store neat when there are unsupervised children pulling things off the shelves! The cosmetic area had very little stock. They had snacks, but not any grocery items beyond chips & sweets. There was a small area of work out equipment which was a nice surprise. 5 lb dumbbells for $5 each. A $5 book section. The stock was a little different from other stores like this. I have been coming to Five Below fairly regularly since it opened. It was a guilty pleasure of mine back when it first opened, but it has really gone downhill over the past year or so. This location in particular is always sold out of everything - the store often has empty shelves and bins. In addition, this location is a mess! The shelves are haphazardly arranged and items are often laying on the floors and in the aisles. You can find great prices on the items that are here. I like to shop here for character items for my kids and for journals or guided writing type books because they are much cheaper than going to Target or Barnes and Noble. Although the store itself isn't in great shape, I always love interacting with the staff at this location. They are always friendly and open to chit chat. Hopefully the opening of the new location will take some of the foot traffic out of his location and allow more time for the staff to organize and stock the sales floor. read more

Rude. & stupid. They have ur order sitting there all day & are too lazy to mark that it's ready for pickup. Yet they will stand there and chat with each other all day instead of doing their jobs. When I called and asked how come I placed an order at 12:30pm and it was currently 6pm. I asked why it would take so long if it was one thing and their response was "we haven't got around to it" I said "it was one thing i would have just came in myself if I knew it was gonna take hours for one thing." She went quiet with no reason. Came in at 8:40pm before the store closed to get my order and they had it sitting there the whole time. I never got a text or email that it was ready & probably wasn't going to til tomorrow . Not to mention you have to bring ur id for the order (which is fine but they didn't tell me that before hand)! They're usually good but this is new staff I've never seen before. Do better. Hire better people. read more

We first visited when they first opened and me and my husband was all over the place. This place has cool items galore. I told myself, go in with a plan or else you're gonna get yourself into trouble. So what happens an hour in... we start grabbing items that are not necessary and throwing them in the cart. Not too bad sing everything is below $5 right? Wrong... this place is a pimped out Dollar Tree and you're gonna spend more than $50. If you're coming in for something specific then you probably shouldn't visit because you're gonna get caught up with everything around you. They just about have most of the daily things you need and a lot of cool things for the kids. I walked in and brought home 2 boogie boards which I thought was cool and some blow up floaties for the pool. I've been here a few times now and I have never had to wait a long time when checking out. It's usually pretty busy with tons of customers, but it doesn't take long to check out all your items. My daughter would once in awhile ask me to go to this store and I would always say yes! They've got everything of things you thought you didn't need and some of our past purchases included an LED light for drawers, laptop camera privacy covers, and of course, candies! They have mini skateboards for just $5 which I've been eyeing for some time. The store is organized in sections such as tech items, fitness needs and books in the middle of the store. Love this place! It's definitely not as good as when they first opened, seems like they can't keep the supply up but still a really fun store that they keep fairly stocked with new items. Last time I went it looked like they were going to expand the store which would be amazing! Some fun stuff I've bought from them: -blind bags -weight blanket ($10, but still a good deal) -picnic blanket that folds -small kiddie pool -sun block -incense -LED lights for the back of my TV (probably my favorite purchase) And so much more! read more

I had no idea this store was even in town so when I saw it I just had to go in. Everything was organized and clean . The staff was friendly and the prices can't be beat . There's something for everyone in here ! I finally found a color change lightbulb with remote that actually works. No WiFi or crazy setup required. Something I thought was interesting was the self check outs . There were no staff at registers when I went in . Only self check outs . I was so surprised when I went to write this review and only had one picture of the outside. This is a great store if you have young kids. We adopted a family this Christmas and wanted to make the kids feel special. They had a large variety of princess items for the girls and some Star Wars for the boys. I was able to fill up very large gift bags for 4 kids for under 150$. Great books, journals and coloring items. I bought one thing for me here, I enjoy the large lemon head candy's. 10 for a dollar, great deal and so far the only place I can find them. If you are looking for a gift for a young person in your life, this is the place to go. My adult kids love the journals and motivational books available here. There were a couple employees stocking shelves. Nobody greeted us or asked if we needed help, we didn't, for a customer needing help you might have to hunt someone down. This location is self checkout, we had a cart full so it took awhile. There was an employee standing near checkout if you needed help with something. What a fun place! I took my family here one late Sunday morning and while there was a homeless fellow digging in the trash can out front, the store is still pristine and bright and fun. The music is loud, but it's fun and my kiddos enjoyed dancing every once in a while to it. There are ALL KINDS of deals, but just be wary, not everything is a GOOD deal. Seemed like a really cool place. Admittedly, I did walk in right as they were closing on their opening weekend, so the store was a complete mess, lots of empty shelves and things strewn all over the place. I expected that, so no grumpiness about that here. One thing that I did notice that was a little obnoxious was the music volume level. Entirely way too loud for such a confined space. I get that you want to keep the energy level up and set the atmosphere, but when you have it so loud that I couldn't hear the person I was with speaking to me when they were literally inches from me... yeah, a little too much. Couldn't even hear their closing announcement over the music, so I didn't know they were closing until an employee had to personally come tell me. I stop here when I'm in the area. Cheeper than Walmart for phone adapters and cords. They have different lengths of phone cords you can choose. I always get the 10ft cords. I also like the old school candy they sell just like when I was a kid. They also have toys and other neat gadgets. I love the checkout. I hate it at Walmart, Target, and other stores when a clerk asks you, "Would you like bag(s)." Which translates, I'm charging you .50 cents for each bag I give you. I love Five Below, but I have to say I was very disappointed in this store. When I stay with family in Tulare, I found the store in Mooney and fell in love with the store. The store on Mooney is always beautiful and the staff is always helpful. However, when I've stopped in Bakersfield on the way home the store is a mess and dirty and empty the 2x I've been there. No one talks to me or offers any help. read more

This store is a nice fun novelty place to go once. But after you been there once and find there is nothing you need or want. .well to go a 2nd time would be like going to home Depot to check out their grocery dept .lol I went my one trip there with my niece and nephew and at 7 and 9 they love it. .But I'm not 7 or 9 .lol So have fun go there once .But I will say the best part of the trip to the store was the music being at a nice high level .So you can relax and walk around or just wait for the people you are with .This is why I like going to Albertsons as they blast the music and you can relax and walk around the store for about 2 hours and get the 3 or 4 things you need or want. .I go there about Twice a week just for maybe two or three things and always spend at least an hour but often 90 mins or more .it is the great atmosphere that bring me back .if you blast the 70 s rock. I always jokingly say that this is the "Target" of the "dollar" store chains. When you wanna buy decent last minute gifts, these stores offer good quality items for 5 bucks or less. This is the place I highly recommend. These are very popular in the Florida area when I would visit. Glad to see Bakersfield getting these stores finally. read more
