So glad I went to the Malibu Farmer's Market this Sunday. This may be my second favorite dessert discovery in California so far after the cakes at the abbey. I've never specifically sought out bundt cakes but after this experience, I will now be on the hunt. I sampled the butter rum, which was super moist and rich in buttery flavor. I ended up buying the berry cake though. I couldn't help it. Purple food just gets me. The cake was super moist, dense, flavorful, fresh, and had a little filling on the inside which solidified this cake in my heart both metaphorically and literally. Best delicious italian butter rum. The smell of the sweet, buttery treat would fill the whole house and give it a warm and cozy feeling. So I've been going to this place since I first found them at the chino hills market place. What a gem we found! We got an even bigger surprise when we found out they offer gluten free options!!!!!! I COMPLETELY disagree with the other post claiming their gluten free Bundt's aren't celiac disease friendly. My sister has celiac disease and we actually tested bundt cake with her Nima Sensor and we got a BIG FAT SMILEY FACE!!! :) just like that one! Yes, they do disclose their cakes are make in a facility with blah blah blah, you'll be surprised, a lot of the times it's really just a legal disclosure, we've talked to the owner Chris a bunch of times and they make sure the gluten free bundts are made in a separate mixer that is cleaned prior every time. They can't guarantee it because where they bake the items isn't their own facility, but that doesn't mean they don't do an amazing job of cleaning everything down to be able to provide an amazing product. I don't have celiac disease and their gluten free cakes are just as amazing as the traditional ones. All in all a fucking amazing bundt company. Traditional, delicious, moist, I can go on and on. You have to try the original rum ( or celiac friendly rum) all other flavors are just a bonus! read more

Come across Dolce Monachelli's completely by chance when I took a walk around the Chino Hills Shoppes to kill some time and discovered the end of the farmer's market there. I haven't had a bundt cake in such a long time, and the fact there was a sample available, I told myself, "Sure, why not." I fell in LOVE at first bite with the business and the Italian Butter Rum. After listening to the gentlemen handling the booth who was actually the owner of Dolce M, I felt joy in my life. Having a conversation with the owner, hearing about their history, the passion filled behind his words, and the genuine humbleness within his character this whole experience felt as if I was in someone's home experiencing their heartfelt hospitality. Oh. My. God. I wish I knew this place existed sooner! They came to a farmers market up in the San Bernardino mountains. I was walking by the booth and the guy handed me a sample. I normally do not care for rum cakes. Well I got the sample, took 4 steps away from the booth and consumed the sample. I stopped in my tracks, turned around and bought 6 mini bunts. I got a mix of flavors and just, wow!! So good! The Italian rum butter cake with the pecans is still my favorite, followed closely by the confetti! The carrot cake has a delicious flavor and bonus, no raisins in that bad boy!! I have yet to try the red velvet, but it's up next. I'm sure it will be amazing! Wow! I'm so impressed with the business. I ordered a cake for my husband's bday. His favorite Rum Cake for his bday dinner tonight. We love the cakes and were so disappointed when it did not arrive as promised. I called and spoke with Chris. We ordered a cake for a party this week, and when shipping didn't work out for reasons out of the bakeries control, they baked us a brand new fresh cake and drove it to us themselves free of charge. I have been coming to this stand in Farmer's Markets all over Southern California. I wish they had a brick and mortar, so I could just keep going back! They lure you in with the tastiest little samples and once you see all their options, you can't help but buy 5, also the more you buy, the less expensive they are. When I was in college at UCI, they would show up every quarter during the Farmer's Market and I would buy at least 4 and stow them in my freezer to be pulled out for birthdays and post-finals celebrations. Their classic Italian rum cake is so delicious and moist without being overly sweet. They also have seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice or berry that deserve a try as well. read more

Update: Well after escalating my issue on PayPal a few weeks ago, I received an email saying that PayPal has decided in my favor. I checked my account and sure enough, nestled in my deposited column, was the $31 I had been fighting for. PayPal never showed updates from Dolce Monachelli's when I escalated my issue so that pretty much means Dolce never tried to dispute it, nor really took the problem seriously. Again, these reviews of mine reflect the bad customer service of this bakery, not their products. I encourage you to enjoy their treats if you're in Santa Ana. If you decide to order online, just beware. If you experience ordering problems, don't bother calling or emailing Dolce. Creating tickets on PayPal is the best route to take though it will certainly take almost 2 months to get your money back. read more

I've personally seen multiple hairs inside the cakes, and a lot of the neighbors don't care too much for the owner himself. Oh dear me, my diet is DOOMED. I work nights at Kaiser Permanente Anaheim on Lakeview Avenue. I was leaving work Friday morning when I noticed a farmers' market happening and decided to stop by and peruse. I can't remember what else I purchased that morning, as those other items have fallen by the wayside in my memory: what I DO remember were the two (yeah, I only bought two) Amaretto del Orso mini bundt cakes I'd bought. I had to deal with traffic on the way home, so I got curious about the cakes. I unwrapped one and have NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE. To say the cakes were moist is to equate the Pacific Ocean is just a little water. And the flavor? I can't even describe it. I'm naming myself the next DM stalker. On Tuesdays at Downtown Brea, BF and I take a quick stroll through the farmers market to get to Fresca's 99cent tacos. The fruit vendor's free samples are our appetizers and when we feel bold enough, our dessert as well. This week was the first time I noticed Dolce Monachelli's booth. The booth displayed saran wrapped cakes that looked very home made. Not that I'm very particular but there's nothing quite like the excitement when facing a glass showcase filled with dainty and ridiculously cute cakes and pastries. Anyhow, we tried the free sample the vendor was telling us their best seller, Italian Butter Rum. OH. MY. GOODNESS. I saw the vendor giving us the knowing smile and I thought what a sneaky #^$%#! We didn't stand any chance. It was lust at first sight and I had to have it. Paid $3 for one cake which is kind of expensive but I've passed the point of common sense. After our dinner, we walked back to Dolce Monachelli's and tried the Chocolate Kahlua. It's good but I thought Italian Butter Rum was better. I looked beside to my BF and noticed this glazed look on his face. Yep, he too was beyond the point of common sense. Needless to say, we ended up buying two cakes for $5 after discount. So my mom used to buy these cakes from a farmer's market when I would come down from Sacramento to visit her. I would look forward to visiting hoping that she would have a cake waiting for me. Last year for my birthday my mom asked if I wanted a cake and of course I said I wanted the Italian Butter Rum Cake. Unfortunately my mom didn't know that they are available at multiple farmer's markets, nor could she remember the name of the bakery the cakes came from. She was convinced it was called La Dolce Vida in Santa Ana. Eventually my mom convinced me that they were out of business. Needless to say I didn't have the cake on my birthday and put the cakes out of my mind. I have since moved back to Orange County and had scoured the internet looking for the bakery because I was not completely convinced that they went out of business. I was completely unsuccessful looking up La Dolce Vida or La Dulce Vida, etc. THEN LAST WEEK AT THE DOWNTOWN ANAHEIM FARMER'S MARKET...... The cakes appeared!!!!!! We stopped dead in our tracks. I thankfully was with my mom, otherwise I would have never recognized the booth. I could have cried. I always wonder what I would pick for the best thing I ever ate TV show. The italian butter rum cake would be my pick because it really is the BEST THING I EVER ATE. It is so fresh, buttery, moist, and delicious. I could easily eat the entire cake in one sitting, but obviously I have to pace myself. These cakes are such a hidden little treasure of the world. Wow! Heaven! What a wonderful fateful day my family and I went to the Dana Point farmers market. We were stopped by two fellas that asked us if we wanted to try the best cake in the world. (I think that is what they said) And we did and we were floored by this Italian Butter cake. It was moist, soft, dense, sweet, and just soooo peeeerfecto! These guys were so cute and nice! Disclaimer: I am slightly biased in this review: Dolce Monachelli was a large part of my childhood growing up. Their actual bakery was far from me, but they would come do farmer's market right across from my high school. Every Saturday since Elementary through high school I would bug my parents to take me there so I could have one of their Italian butter rum cake which is one of the most mouth watering, melt-in-your-mouth cake that you have ever had in your life. My 2nd favorite is there chocolate cake. The owner is the nicest person you will ever meet. Always greeted me with a smile. He was a big patron of the arts in my high school and would always send one or two large cakes to cast party for Peninsula High School plays. These are indeed the best cakes I've ever tasted. The Italian Rum Cake is soft, rich, buttery, moist and oh so delicious! I decided to sample it on a whim at the Irvine Farmers Market and it pretty much blew my mind. I immediately bought a dozen and ate through nearly half my stash by the end of the day. It's at a point where I am now forbidden to bring any more "little cakes" home. They are that irresistable, no diet can be sustained with these suckers in the house. So far, I've sampled only the Rum Cake, Red Velvet and Blueberry. The Rum Cake is certainly the winner, with Blueberry as a close second. I did not particularly care for the Red Velvet. The Pumpkin and Citrus were somehow stolen out of my bag from tempted household members but that's ok...it just gives me an excuse to buy some more next Saturday :-) read more

I went to the Torrance Farmer's market with my family on Saturday for the 1st time and came across their stand. There were a couple of guys with great energy and they sure got our attention! Very friendly and we couldn't walk away after hearing them say "these are the best cakes in the universe" They had samples of their rum cake. Amazingly delicious! This place is a joke! I need rum cakes for a large family party on Saturday. I researched Italian bakeries and the best and nearest to my home was this one. I called them at 8:30 this morning but only got the machine. It gave their hours of business (Monday thru Friday, 8:30 to 3:00) so I left them a message to call me and I would place an order for pick up tomorrow. I waited for 3 hours and no one called so I called again. No answer. They are about 20 miles away but since time is running out and I know they are open, I went to their bakery. I searched and searched an industrial park but couldn't find it! So I called and left a real desperate message. Please call me back so I can buy my rum cakes!!! She called! But to tell me they are closed on Tuesday and Thursday and can't sell to me anytime. They are not a retail bakery. Thanks for telling the public, and saving me 2 hours. Dolce Monachelli's sells mini bundt cakes at the farmer's market on S. La Cienega at 18th St. I could not resist stopping by for a sample-- they looked so pretty and adorable. I was given a taste of the Italian butter rum cake and WOW. So good. It was very moist and incredibly flavorful. There were probably 8-10 other flavors available for purchase, and it was ridiculously hard to choose because they all sounded delicious. I ended up with a lemon cake with coconut frosting. It was very tasty. The Italian butter rum is still tops in my book, though. These little cakes are $3 and a good portion size. I saw that they also had some larger sized bundt cakes which would be great for dessert or a party. Definitely come check out the bundt cakes at the farmer's market-- Thursday afternoons.
