Soooo moist and yummy! I got the butter beer flavor because it sounded like a cool novelty treat but it was actually my favorite!! The top is almost crispy and is made with cream soda - so good. Super moist and saturated in butter, it's not for the health conscious, so stay away, as they are habit forming. Self explanatory- buttery with a nice hint of rum. Sometimes they offer pecans which makes it extra delicious. Baked to perfection: sweet, soft, and not dry. Chocolate Cake (A-OK) This was pretty good but similar to other cakes. What made this stand out was the sweetness and the cream in the middle. When I did freeze it, I felt like it tasted 5 times better. Pumpkin Spice: TBD (Still frozen in my freezer) Overall: Price was about right for such a unique cuisine. Every quarter, UC Irvine holds a weekly Vendor Fair and you can bet Dolce Monachelli always makes an appearance. For hungry college students, their free samples of their Italian Butter Rum cake stops us in our tracks to class and prove tempting and to DIE for. Then you try everything else and fall in love all over again. Their Mini Bundt Cakes are definitely a win, as you can save some money buying a couple while trying a few of their flavors. Over the years, I've become quite the regular and have tried almost all of their flavors. The Italian Butter Rum with Pecans on top are a best-seller and promising choice. For lighter, fresher tastes, I love their Pineapple Upside Down (with fresh pineapple and cherry) and Lemon Citrus. For richer chocolate tastes, I go for their Chocolate Cappuccino or German Chocolate (which is rare but my FAVORITE. A chocolate cake with a pecan/coconut filling? YES!). Their Carrot Cake Supreme is a nice choice as well. Their prices go $4 each, 3 for $10 and 4 for $12. The employees are usually always friendly and I tend to try to snag deals, as sometimes they are kind enough to lower the price for more at the end of the day, or (at one time I went), get a free one when you buy 7. (It's always a good idea to split/combine with friends to save money but get the cheaper bulk pricing.) Overall, what first drew me to these cakes was how lusciously MOIST and rich in flavor they were! Every time I eat one I almost hate myself since it is SO rich and heavy. (I feel like with that much flavor, you're only supposed to eat half?) Either way, it's scrumptious and insanely delicious and flavorful (and oily)... but judging from other reviewers, perhaps the ingredients make for the yummy kill. (TAKE CAUTION.) First thing to note: DO NOT REFRIGERATE (it ruins the moisture/texture and dries it out; they tend to tell you that when you order). FREEZING is a smart option, then let is DEFROST and it will taste just as what you fell in love with! The friendliest staff and most personable employees who love their product. Just don't indulge too much in this disastrously guilty pleasure. Reading the ingredients scare me. read more

I asked about high fructose corn syrup and he said no (which was true according to the label) but I feel like that question should of opened up a conversation about there being dyes and preservatives used in the cakes. As we were strolling through the Westwood farmer's market, the guy working the table for this place beckoned with a tray full of samples. Being the suckers that we are for free sweets, we bit hard at the hook and he reeled us in. His table had a dizzying array of different cakes and we would have loved to try them all, but we were really looking for a little treat to bring home to our cat sitters. We picked up a box of their mini bundt cakes in a variety of flavors, and after he rang us up he threw in a free 3 inch carrot cake. We didn't try it until we were 300 miles away and discovered how delicious and moist that it was - this was not your typical carrot cake at all. The guy who runs this place is so sketchy. Always has a new person working there, and often screws those people over (making them drive to far markets and not reimbursing them for gas). If you must buy from them, look at the stickers on the bottom of the cakes- he sells the old cakes first and puts them in the front. These have a different color sticker than the fresh cakes in the back. read more

At SoCo Farmer's Market on Saturdays, you can pretty much sample every vendors products at each stall. It's like being at Costco on a weekend. I have been offered sugar snap peas, apples, tamales, almonds, kettle corn, hummus, flatbread with pesto sauce, bread with balsamic vinegar, pistachios and Dolce Monachelli's mini bundt cakes. Easy way to get me to make a purchase. The Dolce Monachelli vendors offered us a sample of their famous Italian Butter Rum mini bundt. Oh, wow! I was hooked. Since we wanted to grab some lunch from the food truck round-up, I told them I would be back for the 4 for $10 deal on the mini bundts after we ate. I should have made my purchase earlier. When I got back to booth, they were out of the lemon coconut flavor :( I LOVE lemon bundt cake. I ended up with the four flavors of red velvet, chocolate M&M, blueberry cream cheese and the Italian butter rum. BF ate the first two and I ate the two latter. BF said he enjoyed the red velvet and chocolate M&M equally. These cakes are small but very rich. Moist with sweet glazes and loaded with butter. I have to say their showcase flavor, the Italian Butter Rum is outstanding. My absolute favorite. Not a really strong rum flavor like a Malibu rum cake, but subtle and full of yummy buttery goodness. They make cute additions to a gift basket. I will back for some more Italian butter rum cake and want to still try their lemon mini bundt. read more

So in my teens, I stayed away from drugs and alcohol - and every time I went to the Sunday WLA Farmer's Market (behind the public library on Santa Monica Blvd and Purdue), I avoided sampling the mini bundt cakes from Dolce Monachelli's. But one day, one of my fave clients brought me a couple of these little bundts, and just that first taste has led to my $100 a day habit. **cue mellow Intervention music** LOL, ok so I'm not THAT addicted!! Yet....... : ) Today bf and I saw our neighbors right in front of this booth at the farmer's market, and we hung out and talked and all raved about these cakes. So after sampling the Double Chocolate and the Italian Butter Rum (they ALWAYS offer samples!) we got: Italian Butter Rum Pineapple Upside Down Strawberry Blueberry German Chocolate ($4 ea or two for $5) These super freshly baked feeling tender cake babies are the epitome of a moist and flavorful cake! It was SUPER hard to pick just these four - some of the flavors I passed up were: Lemon Citrus, Lemon Coconut, Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate Raspberry and Pina Colada. PLUS they had full sized versions of the baby cakes! The flavors are all moist and have glazes that soak MORE flavor into the cake or a little bit of icing in the bundt hole (LOL, that sounded racy for a minute!), or little pieces of nuts or coconut or berries embedded in or sprinkled on their domes. Once you bite in, they are super rich and taste like LOVE.....and BUTTER!!! (Butter IS love, isn't it?) Friendly bundt dude David and helper Jesse were explaining that they have a bakery in Santa Ana where you can phone in an order and pick up, or they are at many farmer's markets in the LA and OC areas. I passed by the Brea Farmers Market on a Tuesday evening, I picked up some fruit and rum cakes. I did come specifically for the rum cake. I had called the shop and the nice gentleman told me I would find them here. I was a bit let down. I guess I had extremely high expectations after reading all the reviews on yelp. Back in the day, I had a coworker who made home made rum cake. That was the best rum cake I have ever had. That is a fact. I purchased a few cakes. The rum cake and the red velvet were AOK. Tried them for the first time at the Monrovia's Farmers Market and my GF decided to buy some. The Italian Butter Rum Cake was definitely the best of the bunch. Also tried the Red Velvet and Peanut Butter. They were good, but not as good as the Italian Butter Rum Cake. All the cakes here are pretty moist and flavorful. I put some in the freezer since I didn't want them to go bad. I just put them on room temperature to thaw for a few hours before eating them and they were just fine. read more
