I have had gelato from Europe so I am very picky when it comes to my Gelato since I have had the real thing. I came here the other day with my friends and I got the chocolate/hazelnut combo and they got lemon/grapefruit. There was nothing outstanding about it. It anything I felt like it was a bit icy for gelato instead of creamy and silky. The lemon was good and refreshing. The grapefruit smacked you in the face with GRAPEFRUIT. This place has a very convenient location, serves some great Italian beverages like Chinotto and Sanbitters, and has forgettable Gelato. A lot of people will be taken aback by the large portion (one size only), and the thick, creamy texture of the Gelato which is more akin to ice cream than traditional gelato. Oh, they don't take card, like many places in the North End, so bring cash. Walking down Hanover St with my family after dinner, we stumbled upon Gigi Gelateria. This cafe serves both gelato and cannolis, without the lines of other cafes in the area. I have to admit, I was a little hesitant because there was no line like the other cafes, but we had a nice dessert. There are about 20 different gelato flavors, and also multiple cannoli filling flavors (berry, lemon, pistachio). We ordered the gelato and it was tasty and refreshing. The portion size served was quite small for the price paid, which is disappointing. For $5, I was hoping for more than just two very very small sized scoops. Gigi Gelateria is a cafe I would stop in again in the future, but only as a secondary if the lines are too long in other cafes. read more

Loved their gelato. We got a large cup of chocolate, mango, and strawberry all in one cup to share. Tasted great...and more European than American style. Ie it doesn't taste so loaded with sugar, which I like much better. Texture was great. Other reviewers say it's a bit more icy than creamy, but I feel like most gelato isn't super creamy anyway...else it'd be more like ice cream. Anyway, I liked it how it was. Oh no. No no no no, it's just wrong for gelato on Hanover Street to be so bad. Last time I went, there were little ice crystals in the gelato because it was over-frozen, and based on other reviews it seems like I'm not the only person to have that problem. Also, the consistency is all wrong - it's not creamy at all, it's very thick, and only comes in one overpriced ($5) size. I give them credit for a wide variety of flavors, but meh. Some people probably aren't happy unless they are eating Gelato on a boat in Venice, that has to explain some of the low reviews. Have been many times and the Gelateria does not disappoint. I'd recommend the Grapefruit, Orange, Hazelnut, and Tiramisu flavors, but it all depends on personal tastes. We stopped here for gelato today on a recommendation. My daughter had chocolate chip mint and I had the peach. Both of our dishes were tasty, creamy, smooth, and full of great flavor. I love Gelateria! One of the few places in Boston where a gelato-craving tourist/local can get authentic gelato taste. They have a ton of flavors and all are crafted according to Italian tradition. Only one size, but big enough to share and can fit up to 3 flavors. Prices are average for the neighborhood. The grapefruit sorbet flavor is one of the best, but those seeking a typical Italian flavor need to try the nocciola, the bacio or the stracciatella. They also have great espresso and cappuccino and I noticed they have expanded their cannoli selection recently.I need to give it a try soon! Overall, not impressed. First things first, don't come here if you are trying to pay with a card. It is cash only, and there are no signs around to say so. Second, the gelato was icy and flavorless. Super disappointed. I was in Little Italy and just wanted an authentic scoop of pistachio gelato. Saw a sign out front saying this gelato has won awards in Boston. Not even close. Save your money. $$ texture and flavour not even close to authentic Italian gelato. The pistachio flavour was similar to imitation pistachio ice cream. :(:( my advice... taste before you buy. Cannoli was amazing and from what I'm told gelato is very good too. Other reviewers say the gelato is flavor less and I have to disagree with that. I think that the gelato was great and they also had different filling and shells for the cannolis. Overall this place is great and reasonably priced too. The Gelateria is pretty typical North End gelato. All the regular Hanover St. flavors and still very good in the end.
