The gelato was tasty enough, but the two big problems I had were with the prices (really only one price) and the selection. $5 for the one size they serve is just a tactic for extracting the most money out of their customers. I understand that gelato is a fairly expensive dessert, however the woman who served me gave me a disgusted look when I asked for a small size. And as far as the selection, at least when I went, the gelato tubs were mostly empty, which can either be a clue that certain flavors are better and more popular than other, or the management really wants to scrape the last bits of product from each container. I would have asked if they had any more of a certain flavor, but I refrained from questioning the surly woman. The first think I thought was, this place looks great! But, unfortunately, the gelato wasn't that great. It had ice crystals in it, and that is bad. after lunch Angela D. and i walked around until we were ready for dessert. Angela got the hazelnut gelato and i was in the mood for something fruity so i got tangerine. but after trying the hazelnut i knew i made the wrong choice haha. next time i will definitely get the hazelnut! each cup (you don't get a choice of size) is $4.95. and it's CASH ONLY. i wish they had different sizes cuz i didn't even get through half of mine. the pook is usually the one to finish up my food. try their lemon iced tea they have in the fridge out front! i liked it so much i bought one for each of the crew and then a couple for me to take back home. they also really enjoyed it. so refreshing! it was worth making my bag extra heavy lol. read more

I can't say I enjoyed my gelato from Gigi much. As others noted, this doesn't have the taste or texture of gelato I'm used to. It lacked creaminess, being rather dry and perhaps even tending toward brittle. Worse, at $4.95 it was quite overpriced. This was literally the worst ice cream I've had in my entire life. And it cost me $5. The girls that work there were SO rude to me and my boyfriend also. We live in the North End and are only a couple blocks away from Gelateria. On a nice day two weeks ago, we felt like getting ice cream and realized we never tried it here. Worst mistake ever! We should have left the North End for ice cream. It ruined my entire day that I spent $5 ($10 total for both of our ice creams) for ice cream that we didn't even enjoy! NEVER EVER GO! While walking around the North End I was wanting to try authentic Italian gelato. After stumbling upon this place I decided to give it a try, unfortunately it was not what was expected. It was very watery and did not have much flavor at all. The scoop was very small and cost a little over 5 bucks. I would have preferred to go to a chain over this place. IMO this is the best Gelato you can get in Boston. I really like the Limon or the Stracciatella flavors. Pistache is nice too! It's a little pricey, but that's the North End for you. The service is also lacking, but who cares...get your gelato and go on your merry way. read more

Beware the bathroom nazi. I understand people probably come in all the time just to use the bathroom but to literally be grabbed because you want to use the bathroom (and are pregnant) before you order is ridiculous. While I love the concept and think the place is adorable, it just wasn't the best gelato I've had around here. Stopped in here after having a great lunch. The assortment of gelato flavors is quite impressive. I choose the chocolate/hazelnut/vanilla and cappuccino. I do like how you can choose more than one flavor. Both flavors were creamy and rich in flavor. Have I had better? Yes. But it hit the spot. Awesome place for gelato. A lot of choices and the ones I have had so far kick ass. I recommend going here on your walk back from a meal in the North End or while walking on the Freedom Trail. The worst gelato we have ever tasted. Horrible. We tried all the fruit flavors practically, hoping any of them had any real flavor - nope. Bland, flavorless and passionless. Yuck. My most recent visit will be my last. I couldn't find the word to describe it until I read another review which described it spot on: SLUDGY. I forced myself to finish the cup because I hate wasting food, but it was not enjoyable. Their gelato has the strangest texture- gooey, stretchy, slimy almost? They used to give you 3 flavors in a cup but now only let you choose 2. That's fine because I can only tolerate 2 bad flavors, let alone 3. And to top it off, the service was just as poor! Why is it that when describing small places, it seems hard to describe them with out using two adjectives that mean the exact same thing (small little place). not sure why this place has some crappy reviews, but i wouldn't recommend another place for a cannoli... well, at least the simple shell / ricotta filling combo (i'm not a fan of the flavoured fillings, since they tend to run on a much sweeter side usually). the cannoli is filled to order and they are not shy with the amount of filling... so, if you are like me, and don't want too much filling in the pastry, you actually have a choice here. and the shell... They charged us $6.25 for a small cup and CASH ONLY. We paid over $12 for 2 small cups. Also we didn't know it's cash only there wasn't any signs that say CASH ONLY. Thank god I found a $20 bill in my wallet if not I don't know what we would do? We only have credit cards with us. The ice cream taste isn't that good and very pricy. Cozy little place with seating in a busy area. The service left me disappointed. There were 2 servers and when it was my turn, the 2 guys behind me was served instead of me by this little Hispanic man. After serving them he asked what I would like. I asked why I was not served before the couple and was told he did not see me. I'm pretty big and can't imagine being over looked. I waited for the other server and asked the same question. She immediately apologized and the little man walk away. I was with family, so I ordered for them and got nothing for myself. The worst gelato I have had - without question. Trying 8 different flavors among us, some were borderline acceptable, while the mint chocolate chip was a knock-off of Colgate Cavity Control toothpaste. The common theme among the flavors was the texture - glue-y. It left me sick to my stomach for the rest of the night. Never before have I had gelato with this texture. If you are looking for that nostalgic, paste-eating feeling from kindergarten, this may be your place. Furthermore, again part of the North End monopoly that is De Pasquale Ventures... opening half-decent, over-priced venues all over the North End, and simultaneously rating them highly in De Pasquale controlled publications. This was our first time touring the city. We decided to try the highly recommended gelato this shop had. The employees were extremely helpful in recommending flavors. Once we sat down to enjoy our gelato, our friends arrived. They had not purchased anything yet but they still sat with us. They were finishing a cannoli that they had purchased in a different shop. Before they got an opportunity to purchase gelato, the store owner (we assume) approached us telling us that they shouldn't be eating anything that isn't from the store. His comment, his facial expressions and tone made my friends and I feel uncomfortable. It was obvious he didn't want us there. I would also like to note that there was no else purchasing or consuming. And it is obvious why. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more
