First time trying this place and it left a MARK. It was so good, i'm dying to go back lmao You know it's good when the outside seems a little hidden but it's actually very fancy on the inside. We were noticed a whole lamb was in the oven and anything roasted may take more time to come out so I would ask in advance about the time. We got the Dolan's special tea, boiled lamb, Roasted lamb leg, Uyghur Goshnaan, Manta, Samsa, Uyghur Polo ( Lamb) and Honey cake! Dolan's special tea 5/5: This is a pretty popular item, I saw almost every table had one order. It's like a sweet fragrant tea, it does get a little too strong if you let ur steep for a while, they do offer to add more hot water for you if you ask :) Boiled Lamb 4/5: This is definitely more of a traditional taste, but because it's boiled it's very soft. The dish comes with raw onion to pair with the meat. Roasted Lamb 4/5: this is similar to the boiled lamb but i'm assuming it's roasted after it's boiled. I like this one because it was more flavorful but it is tougher to chew. It also comes with raw onions to pair w the meat. Uyghur Goshnaan 1000/5: I saw this was another popular item and for good reason. It's so goodddd. It's the perfect flakey texture and the filling is so flavorful, I did find it on the salty side but nevertheless still sooo good i'll definitely be craving it. Manta 5/5: This one was so surprising to me. It looks like a standard dumping you'll find anywhere but the flavor was more cumin savory base. This was sooo good regardless. I have had this place bookmarked for so long and was really excited to give it a try. I've never had Uyghur cuisine before and it's not something I've come across a lot. We came here for a late lunch on Thursday and it was pretty quiet. Service was a little slow, but everyone was very friendly and they apologized for the wait. The food actually came out very quickly. Here's what we tried: - Leghirdaq (bean starch with spicy dressing): I wasn't a huge fan of this dish tbh. The bean starch kind of had the consistency of tofu but the spicy dressing sauce was delicious and it was overall a refreshing dish. - Lamb kebab: Ok I don't like lamb, but this was probably some of the best lamb I've had. It was seasoned really well so it didn't taste too gamey. - Laghman (hand pulled noodles with stir fried beef and veggies): You can tell these noodles are hand pulled because of the variation in the thickness/size of the noodles. It's kind of hard to describe the flavor profile of this dish, but just try it and thank me later. The hardest part was separating the noodles because they were sooo long. - Small boneless big plate chicken: This is another must try dish (as evidenced by the fact that it's mentioned in almost every single review). The portions are MASSIVE. Next time I would order a side of extra hand-pulled noodles on the side. The noodles in this dish are wide, compared to the Laghman. There is a ton of chicken and there is so much flavor with the perfect amount of spice. - Dolans' special tea: I may or may not have been tempted to order this because of how cute the tea pot was. The tea is very fragrant and has so much flavor but is surprisingly not bitter at all. They are very generous ,Clean, simple but very beautifully decorated restaurant with enjoyable and energetic traditional music. The Big Plate Chicken was definitely spicy! Even though the server told me it was mild, it was still a bit too spicy for my mom and I to handle. However, the noodles were delicious and soaked with sauce. The chicken and potatoes was very flavorful. We had enough leftovers for 3 more meals...we'll likely make fried rice with the chicken. I absolutely loved their meat filled pie and green beans!! There was two of us, but what we ordered could have reasonably fed three people. I've only had Uyghur food once awhile back, prior to Dolan's so I wasn't sure what to expect. As someone who generally avoids both spicy food and lamb, I thought it would be hard to enjoy the food here, but I was wrong. We ordered food on their website for takeout, and got the boneless big plate chicken and the Uyghur Polo (lamb fried rice). Both dishes were absolutely amazing! The big plate chicken was definitely very spicy (I couldn't find a place on their site to alter the spiciness), but the dish was still delicious. Aside from the chicken, there were also some flat noodles on the bottom, and the noodles seem to be house made with good texture. I took in all that chili oil and downed a lot of water with it. The lamb fried rice was also well seasoned with lots of spices, and I was actually able to eat the lamb (didn't taste gamey at all). Portions were quite decent and I hope to be back! read more

To me, the dishes are a sumptuous blend of Middle Eastern, Chinese, Mongolian, Nepalese and Himalayan flavors, textures and spices that offer something incredibly special and delicious. Dolan's is right here in Alhambra, but I never got around to trying it until now. I invited a group of 15 friends to join me and enjoy this neighborhood restaurant. Since we were a large group, I went in person to make a reservation and speak to them about any recommendations or ideas to ensure a smooth dinner. When we arrived day of, the large table was not available and they directed us to sit outside - there is a pretty cool mural out back and we thought it may help to have open space to socialize a bit, but seems the restaurant hustled and moved the large party outdoors instead - oops - a little awkward. For our shared meal we had big plate chicken both bone-in and boneless, goshnaan beef pie, polo (lamb rice), sweet tomato, and garlic cucumber. Love the flavors and light spice in the chicken. Two platters of each dish was great for about 12 people to share. The rice was savory, soft, and had a deep flavor from the lamb broth it's cooked in. Two platters was not enough for the rice! I would go back and order this rice for lunch. The garlic cucumbers added a nice fresh crunch to our meal, but the sweet tomatoes are literally just fresh sliced tomatoes. The tomatoes paired well, but skip ordering them. Goshnaan pastry was beautifully twisted, warmed up nicely in the air fryer the next day. We had three vegetarians in our group and they were able to order separately on their own tickets with no issue. Note that the polo rice cannot be prepared veg. We luckily went in after the lunch rush so we got the last open spot. It's nicely decorated inside and the outdoor seating has a large mural. They have a QR code with table numbers for digital menus and contactless ordering but they also came up to our table with the physical menu. Ordering was simple and they confirmed our order as well. I got the special tea and it came in a beautiful pot with cups with very cute cup holders. It was floral and sweet. We tried the chicken plate, Goshnaan meat hand pie and lamb soup. The chicken plate was huge for the "small size" but noodles are hidden at the bottom. Definitely need to order extra noodles next time. The meat hand pie was delicious and well seasoned. We ordered the Big Plate Chicken, Uyghur Goshnaan, Roasted Lamb Leg, Lamb Kebabs, and Leghirdaq. If you like lamb, then you're really going to love what they offer here on their menu, which is very lamb-centered. I'm personally not a fan of lamb so I didn't try the dishes but the rest of my party were raving about the lamb dishes here. However, I did enjoy everything else we ordered. You can't go wrong with Big Plate Chicken and the one here at Dolan's was juicy, succulent and flavorful and served with delicious hand pulled noodles. Came to try because I saw Mark Wiens and Mike Chen on YouTube try a meat tower which looked like delicious grilled and seasoned meat...plus Turkish spices which seemed like a great combo. The laghman was a beef noodle with tomatoes, Woodear mushrooms, celery, and bell peppers. Not spicy at all and the hand pulled noodles were chewy and fresh. Very close to a ketchup sauce in flavor - but in a good way. Lamb kabobs (not pictured) were some of the best lamb kabobs I've had compared to some other lamb skewers that are tiny. Very tender and not gamey. All this with the Tower Kabob made for an enjoyable meal. Do be patient as it did take a while for each made to order item. The pumpkin manta was terrible though, the flavors were totally offhand after 1 I couldn't eat the rest. The special tea was good though, though nothing special for such a high price.
