I do not understand how a restaurant with such amazing food can still be in business with the horrible service they have! The same waitress has been there for over a year and the couple of times we have been there nothing has change. Over 10 min just to get our drinks, had to call her over to our table to say we are ready to order, got our order wrong! Missing soup, wrong sushi roll, mix up with the bill, kept getting distracted instead of helping the customers. To the staff who hung up on me multiple times, to the girl who talked and treated me like I was some horrible person. I've supported and loved this business for years and years. Sadly as much as I love the food I will never set foot here again. At my job, if I treat anyone with any unkind or even the slightest disrespect, I would lose money. I earn money from good reviews and going over the top. Communication is key in any customer service job. But you, whoever you are. Lack the ability to provide in a kind and understanding manner. customer service was terrible! called to place a phone order to go...was told that it would be about an hour...which is fine...then was told may be more like 1 1-2 to 2 hours...so what is it? placed our to go order...picked it up and one of the rolls was made wrong, and one of the rolls was not made at all. Ok, so I've been back twice within a week. I will say that the food is good, definitely try to go before it gets busy for the best service. The sushi was fresh, great texture as it should be. The first time there, the sticky rice was still a little wet and fell apart. The second time it was perfect. Still good either way!! The restaurant is small, but perfect for interacting with the chefs and other diners. It's actually kind of fun with music in the background and being able to speak with the chef and waitresses, they have personalities that are friendly and fun. read more

I'm visiting a friend and we have been craving sushi so we came to this little place. We ordered the Calaveras, Big Trees, San Francisco and Firecracker rolls. The Calaveras roll was definitely my favorite. I'm not huge into raw fish, but the Big Trees roll was absolutely amazing. If you're looking for a roll with a lot of cream cheese, I would not suggest this roll. I personally thought it had the perfect ratio of cream cheese though. The San Francisco was pretty plain, but still delicious. I loved the Firecracker roll as well, but it wasn't too too spicy. There is only one place, and we'll worth to visit, when it comes to sushi and Japanese food in Murphys..... and it is not because it is the only place. It is because it is dang good food and service. I was not impressed. I came during COVID, when eating allowed was acceptable but not inside. Well they had people eating inside. It was small. Tiny. But the location was cute and the staff were nice enough. I'd probably enjoy walking the little area when the world opens up again. But, I just wanted Sushi and you guess it, small town with not much choices. So I picked up my 2 Rolls to go and went back to my Hotel. I wasn't even excited to eat here To be honest. But I wanted sushi. Not many good choices for rolls. All very plain Jane type sushi. Basic. And not that the sushi was bad/old, but definitely not the freshest either. Zero stars if I could. I called in to ask their hours and was told 8:30. My response was, "See you soon". We got to the restaurant a half hour later. We walked in and they served the person behind us first. Funny enough that ladies "reserved table" was already given away. We then asked for a table, she walked around the restaurant, came back and said they were fully booked. I pointed out not all the tables had the "reserved" placard. This is the first place I've had sushi since Covid-19 and I am so happy they're here. The rolls are big and really good. We had the Calaveras, Big Trees, San Francisco, and Firecracker rolls. The Calaveras was so good, very big and filling. The Big Trees has cream cheese in it, and at first it didn't seem like enough but it's the perfect ratio. The San Francisco was big and tasted fresh, even though there was tempura. The firecracker roll could be a little spicier, in my opinion, but the flavor was very well balanced. Who would think that up in the Sierra mountains you would find such fresh and delicious Sushi! Such a place exists in Murphys CA. After a long day of hiking and seeing the sights we are starving. We picked up 4 rolls and took them back to the hotel for dinner. The rolls were very delicious...the staff was super helpful and friendly. The Firecracker Roll was my favorite...I loved the fresh Jalapeno peppers in the top. The spicy tuna hand rolls were super good too. You probably wouldn't expect sushi in Murphys to be great. But Doke is ! We're lucky to have this little gem here

Sushi is always fresh and fantastic. Tonight we sat at the bar and had a nice talk with the sushi chefs- it was very busy but they always find time to make things right and talk a bit. Great ambiance and Nigiri was fantastic. Tried a new role - Calaveras Role (I think) - was fantastic. Also had the smoked, marinated octopus/squid salad which is probably the best octopus dish I have ever had - the warm food chef is also extremely talented and has a great, laid-back attitude as well... I don't think you can go wrong here as everything coming out of that kitchen was a 5-star presentation. I have to be critical on one point though, our waitress was nice but kept NOT WRITING our order and kept forgetting things- first, she forgot the roll, then she forgot the edamame, then she remembered my tea but forgot the cup, and then, finally, she forgot the side order of avocado for my girlfriend - TWICE...very confusing and disappointing in front of your significant other. My recommendation is for people to take their job seriously and if it is busy, write down the order and don't say "sorry 3 or 4 times" - in German, if you say sorry more than once, it is an insult- it means "I am not sorry because I keep making the same stupid mistake at your expense"- more or less- so don't say you are sorry if you do not mean it - write down the order and don't waste guests time or the sushi chefs having to fix it all and make them do your job for you. That is my take but I still tipped anyway, which I will not do again if that happens- it is an embarrassment to a fine establishment. Look forward to coming again and either ordering with the sushi chefs directly or having a waiter/waitress who is respectful of guests. Waiters and waitresses have a hard job- I have done it- but you also can get paid 500 a night in tips if you know what you are doing - so know what you are doing is the message. read more

Sushi is great, but I wish we could have had time to enjoy it. Met friends for dinner, and was rudely told we had to finish our meal, (which was $200) and leave because other people were waiting for our table. The waitress told us probably 5 times and seemed like we were putting her out. We were only there for an hour. As locals, we felt so mistreated. I understand that there are limited tables, but at least let us know we only have an hour to eat when we made the reservation. We would have never made the reservation if we knew that, especially when we try to go to dinner with friends to catch up. We just thought we would have been treated better. We wanted to eat here but received several looks from female wait staff for looking at menu outside without a mask on. We stopped to take breather break from masks as it was 100 degrees out with no one around us. We left once we noticed we weren't so welcome. I'm a local, so I was happy there's at least somewhere to get fish/sushi. I'm giving it a couple of stars because the quality of this fish is OK and the staff is really nice. However, it is ridiculously overpriced and they really skimped. I have eaten here twice (though before I just got 2 nigiris), and I recently got the Serpent (for "unagi lovers") which boasts of having "plenty of unagi," but 3/4 of it was rice. I included pictures of a center and end piece, which should each have unagi, but you can see one of them has no filling, and the other is barely perceivable. The scallop nigiri was also minuscule and 1/2 the size usual size. As someone who has eaten a lot of sushi, but in the US and many times in Japan, I was rather disappointed, even for a small town. $23 later, I was still very hungry, and I'm a 110lb lady that usually doesn't eat that much. read more
