We were heading downtown to visit the History Museum, and we had the kids in tow. We had Willy's Wieners last weekend and were in the hot dog mood. We found a pretty good deal on Groupon for this place, so it was decided. It wasn't too hard to find, and there was parking within a block of the restaurant, so it was just as short walk. We went in and were the only ones there, but it was still early on a Saturday. There were two girls working and we had just shown up in time to interrupt lunch. They were kind enough to sacrifice the time to take care of us and our rowdy children. I had the Ruben Dog with the garlic aioli and parmesean tots and the Mrs. had the Chicago dog with Chili Cheese tots. The kids had plain dogs. My hot dog was pretty good. The bun mostly soft (little stale on the end, but didn't ruin it). The swiss cheese would have been better melted a little bit, as a chunk fell off my hot dog. The saurkraut was plentiful and the sauce was actually quite delicious. It was NOT too messy, which was a nice bonus. My wife was very happy with her Chicago dog and had no complaints, other than "this is hard to eat." That means it was loaded, so that isn't too bad. The low end of the tots was the chili cheese. The processed cheese and chili actually lessen the quality of the tots. The tots were delicious, but the toppings were bagged 7-11 quality. Now we did not get down on this, as my garlic aioli tots were amazing. They were seasoned nicely with the parmesean and remained crispy on the outside, and burn your mouth soft on the inside. The sauce was drizzled just right to where you could pick with your fingers or a fork. These were hands down the winner of the day. Overall, we liked the place. It is comparable with Willy's, and definitely a notch above the N'Sync one in the mall. If in the area, this is definitely worth a shot. I really really really liked this spot. It's truly a place where there's something for everyone. On this journey through veganism who would have thought hot dogs could truly be made equal. They are awesome here!!! So parking is kind of weird. It's not like edgewater is a super busy street but there's plenty of cars nonetheless. The building is small so there is like 6 parking slots behind if your lucky. Out front across the street you could park and jog over. There is also a bike shop next door and the parking spaces on the building side of the lot are for the bike shop guest only but the additional lot parking isn't summoned to anyone.....so good luck. We visited on a Saturday morning shortly after they opened. It wasn't busy but because it's small inside once another family came in it was kind of crunched for me and my husband. The menus to order and drink station are positioned at the front door so it's kind of tight squeezing by people. We both ordered vegan hot dogs with our own flares. The house dogs looked pretty tasty but they each had "that one thing" that I didn't particularly want. So I went simple and got stadium mustard and ketchup and my husband put lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and Fritos on his. Quite the combo I know. (Don't ask me why, but I'm grateful he had the opportunity to get whatever he wanted on it lol) We ordered and luckily my tots were free because I checked in on Yelp. Yasssss for free tots!!!! The shop was not very busy but service was slow. Maybe there were people in the back making our meal and it could have just been optics but the cashier was just on her phone and chatting with the other employee. Made me wonder why it was taking so long. The ratio of toppings on the Chicago dog was off. Too much toppings for the dog that the hot dog was falling apart. The texture of the tots were either really hard or really soft. Majority of them were too soft that when I picked it up to dip in ketchup it would fall apart in the ketchup dish. Doghouse is a little on the pricey side for hot dogs and tots. I ordered the Everything Bagel dog which came with cream cheese and everything seasoning. The hot dog itself was pretty small for the bun or maybe it was the bun was a little big for the hot dog. Either way, it was too much breading which cut out the flavor of the hot dog. We ordered the tots sampler with the 5 spice tots, the urban tots, and the balsamic blue tots. The tots themselves were a little crispier than I prefer. The urban tots were definitely the best out of the 3. If I go back, I may just stick to those! The 5 spice were a little drier than the other two as they didn't have any type of sauce on top. The Doghouse, located at the corner of Edgewater and Bryn Mawr in College Park, had only opened up the day before when my friend told me about it and suggested we give it a shot. I'm always open to a new hot dog place, since I don't think the Orlando area has enough of them. (I know about Hot Dog Heaven, but if there are others, somebody let me know). Anyway, The Doghouse is curiously located right inside The Soda Fountain, which is an ice cream shop. Makes sense that both establishments are run by Brad and Christina Cowherd (they also own Infusion Tea). Inside is a bit cramped, but I got a distinct "family-owned" vibe here and didn't mind the fact that I had to brush by multiple customers in a crowded eatery (well, one of the College Park street parties happened to be going on at the same time, so I don't expect it to be so crowded next time, although it would be nice if they can get that kind of business). I say that because the dogs are great. OK, personally I feel it's hard to mess up a dog, but these are legit. I ordered the Chili Cheese dog, a nice standby, and it had a good quality bun, dog cooked just right, a messy-but-tasty chili cheese sauce, and onions to top it off. Very good. My friend had the vegan dog (yes, vegetarians, you can eat here too!) and he enjoyed it. Can't have a dog without tots, right? Their tater tots menu is full of interesting choices - from simple tots (with sea salt) to "totchos" (green onions, cheese sauce, bacon) to the 5 Spice Tots, which I ordered and enjoyed. My friend ordered the Urban Tots (Parmesan, garlic aioli & herbs). It's not just the tots that are varied - you can get the King Dog (Bacon, ketchup, mustard, cheese, chili, diced onions, crushed Fritos), something called a Spicy Redneck (Jalapeño, diced onions, ranch dressing), and a Tooty Fruity dog (peanut butter, honey & raisins). That's just for starters. I have no idea if a hot dog sporting peanut butter, honey, and raisins is any good, but I am guessing that next time I come to The Doghouse, I'll soon find out. There is a little bit of seating inside, mostly counter space (some tables exists on the "ice cream" side of the place). There is also outside seating, giving a good view of Edgewater hijinks. Tucked away in the same building as Soda Fountain Ice Cream. (Which is a great place). They knocked out a wall and now we have the Dog House. They are limited in space as there is a single table and 2 counter spots for seating inside. This is a great spot to grab an outside table and maybe grab some ice cream if you eat all your dinner. The food... ok so Hot Dogs and Tater Tots. Basic but done well. The tots are AIR fried so they taste fine and are perhaps a bit healthier than ones soaked in oil. They can add toppings to the tots such as cheese, bacon, ranch, or salt and vinegar tots anyone? The dogs were OK. Cooked properly and I REALLY appreciate the bun getting a little toasting! I tend to like the classic split dog flat grilled but these were good. The basic dog is about $5 which is not bad and the small tots (which were actually quite large) was another $5 but the fountain drinks were $2.75 ? Staff was fine. Nothing over the top, just pleasant and as you would expect ordering at a restaurant/diner pretty much anywhere. I will say the food was out pretty quick so if you are pressed for time and want a quick bite this place might be a good option for you. Just maybe bring your own bottled drink. read more

After spending most of the morning shopping, my wife and I decided to make a pit stop at Doghouse to carb up and it did not disappoint. There aren't many hot dog options around town, so it is a welcome addition to the College Park area - which, admittedly, I don't get over to often enough - and Orlando, in general. The Doghouse shares a space with The Soda Fountain, leaving it with a small dining area - although, I'm sure you can sit in either place. Props to the owners for sticking with a theme. There is a wall of dog photos to the right and a doghouse facade along the left wall above and around the trash. We were helped right away and ordered two combos, which comprised of hot dogs, tots, and a fountain drink for both of us. I chose the Tsunami dog (pineapple, garlic aioli, jalapenos, and bacon), along with 5 Spice tots. The first thing I noticed once our orders arrived is that there were no condiments on the table. Since the dogs are fancied up, I understand not putting ketchup and mustard on them. But the tots? Hot sauce and ketchup would go well with several of the flavors they have available. Luckily, we were able to obtain both easily enough for the worker. The dog itself was a Hebrew National and about what you expect it to be. The Tsunami toppings worked well - the sweetness of the pineapple, the saltiness and smoke of the bacon, and the mild spiciness of the jalapenos - but the garlic aioli here is so thick and heavy and they PILE it on. I wouldn't say it tasted bad but it didn't have much flavor, effectively making it mayonnaise. Bun game was average. The tots were... interesting. I love BBQ with 5 Spice rub. That said, I don't think it really worked on the tots. The strong odor from the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves really threw me off. I've been looking for a good alternative to my old hot dog place after I visited and found them not using gloves to prepare my food (and cleaning the counter off with a dirty rag immediately before) and Doghouse definitely fits the bill. Such a cute little place! Vegan friendly too! The food is absolutely amazing!! I'm a vegetarian on vacation and I couldn't take another bite of cheese pizza lol so my friend and I looked up vegetarian friendly places and this little gem popped up and we were more than ready to give it a try! I had the tsunami dog, which has bacon jalapeño and pineapple on it. Hands down one of the greatest hot dogs I've ever had. The flavor combination was so great.
