For dinner, we shared Art's Famous Fried Chicken and the Meatloaf Main Plate. The fried chicken is buttermilk-brined for 24 hours and came with creamy mashed potatoes and a cheddar drop biscuit. The chicken was seasoned, juicy, crispy... exactly what fried chicken is supposed to be. And the meatloaf surprised me because I don't usually go somewhere like this thinking, "Let me order the meatloaf." But I'm glad we did. It came with mashed potatoes, Southern green beans, and that cheddar drop biscuit. Comfort food done RIGHT. Everything we had was good. Not "it was okay" good. Unfortunately, what should have been a relaxing meal turned into an extremely disappointing experience. The service was poor from the beginning. Despite requesting a booth, we were seated in an area with no working overhead lights. We moved to another table ourselves and waited approximately 10-12 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. When our server finally arrived, she was unfamiliar with the children's menu and incorrectly insisted that marinara sauce wasn't an available option, even though it was clearly listed. She eventually acknowledged her mistake. After a lengthy wait for our food, the manager brought out two Smokehouse burgers instead of the regular cheeseburgers my son and I ordered. We explained the mistake, specifically informing him that my son does not eat pork. He apologized and said the meals would be corrected. What happened next was completely unacceptable. Within minutes, the manager himself returned with what were supposedly corrected burgers. My son, who has extensive restaurant industry experience, immediately questioned how the food could have been remade so quickly. Before taking a bite, he opened his burger and discovered barbecue sauce underneath the cheese. It was apparent that the original burger had simply been returned with the bacon removed. Even the fries were the same--cold and hard. The fact that the manager personally returned this food after being explicitly informed that my son does not eat pork is deeply concerning. When we brought it to his attention, he apologized and promised to investigate. He never returned to our table. No explanation, no follow-up, nothing. By then, we had completely lost our appetites. The waitress eventually brought a reduced bill, but that did little to address what happened. I understand that restaurants get busy and mistakes happen. However, there's a significant difference between making an honest mistake and failing to properly correct it, especially when a customer has specifically stated that they do not eat a particular food. This experience raised serious concerns about food handling, staff training, and management accountability. Extremely disappointing, and certainly not the family dinner we expected.
