I've recommended Dr. Khianey for years and will continue to do so. But I won't be bringing my family to this hospital without Dr. Khianey. Dr. Khianey is the kindest, most talented veterinarian I have ever come across. Unfortunately, Prince George's Animal Hospital will never, ever be the same without him now after more than 40 years of stellar service to the community. Dr. Khianey saved the life of my first kitty, and cared for him throughout the latter half of his life with compassion and irreplaceable expertise for both my cat and for me. He has been caring for my two current cats in the same exact way, as if they were his own. He will continue to do so at the new practice lucky enough to have him. Dr. Khianey's work is exceptional and I have and will continue to recommend everyone I know go to him if they want a doctor who is competent, compassionate, beyond talented and truly cares for all of his patients with the same level of love he does his own. I would not trust anyone over him. I have seen terrified animals calmed by his presence. I have seen animals on the verge of death healed by his hands. I have wept in his offices and been comforted by his calm competence and expertise. No one will ever replace him and to lose him at Prince George's Animal Hospital after four decades of excellence is a fatal wound to this community. I am beyond crushed that he will not longer be practicing at the hospital he built. I hope all of his patients see this and learn the truth. Please, if you support Dr. Khianey and the excellent care he provides our families, support him. Dr. Khianey is an incredible veterinarian but he is also an amazing person who I am lucky to have met and blessed to have found to care for my family. The new ownership also was not transparent and even went so far as to lie about why Dr. Khianey and his staff were no longer there. For a few days the diarrhea subsided, then I woke up this morning to find blood drops mixed with stool. I immediately started my search for a vet, as my regular vet does not do inhouse lab testing. I found Dr. Diarra office and decided to try this location. Thankfully they take walk-ins. Dr. Diarra was very professional, kind and caring. As well as his receptionist. He explained what may have caused the diarrhea, offered sound advice as he examined My Charlie. He proscribed some medications and personally explained what each one was for and how/when to administer them. I am beyond happy with the care My Charlie received.

Bel Air Animal Hospital likely killed my dog…read more Owen was brought in because he was coughing, struggling to breathe, vomiting, lethargic, and rapidly deteriorating from an apparent allergic reaction to meds given by this vet. Per their notes, they administered something for nausea, then sent him home. Six hours later, the emergency hospital ;(a different facility) diagnosed him with pneumonia. Less than 24 hours after leaving Bel Air Animal Hospital, he was dead. I can't help but question how such a serious condition was missed. Owen's care fell far below the standard I expected, and I will always wonder whether recognizing his pneumonia sooner could have saved his life. If your pet is clearly getting worse and your instincts tell you something is wrong, don't hesitate to get a second opinion. I only wish we had. I love you Owen, rest easy my boy.

He was so incredibly kind and supportive as Bear went through surgery and post surgery. Within two months he was walking again (thank you VOSM - Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine). As a result, because Dr Murphy practiced at Belair Veterinary Hospital, I began bringing Bear to Belair. For the first year, service was great because Dr Murphy was our vet. Then, sadly, he left and with it, good service. Since then, it has been a series of miscommunications, poor care, poor management and in the end, a veterinary hospital chain more concerned with its bottom line than good veterinary care. DO NOT USE THIS PRACTICE IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG! Please note the comment below from their manager Peter. This is the kind of unprofessional lack of accountability typical of this business at this point. I was not abusive with anyone on their staff. Sadly, asking questions that seek to explain their business practices leads to agitated incomplete answers, deflection and combativeness. I arrived just a few minutes after closing, fully understanding that the hospital had officially closed. What was incredibly disappointing was that I stood outside knocking on the door for approximately five minutes while multiple staff members walked past the front windows. Several employees looked directly at me, made eye contact, and continued walking without acknowledging me or even coming to the door. I wasn't expecting anyone to reopen the hospital or stay late to see patients. I simply hoped that someone would take 30 seconds to ask if everything was okay or point me toward an emergency clinic or another resource. Instead, I was completely ignored. As a physician, I can't imagine seeing someone visibly asking for help just minutes after closing and not even acknowledging their presence. Even if the answer is "We're closed," basic compassion and professionalism go a long way. This experience left me deeply disappointed. I hope the practice reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because feeling completely ignored when seeking urgent help is not what anyone expects from a healthcare profession.

There was one afternoon I went when it was crowded and I had to wait a while to get taken care of -- never doing that again, haha, but I suspected it beforehand. It just proved my point. My sweet spot is the mornings -- no later than 10 on weekdays if my schedule allows. I used to strictly make appointments on the phone, but now it can be done through their website / text message system. It's been a seamless system thus far. In person, the staff are always professional and very transparent with what they're doing (thankfully it's been nothing serious for my cats). Usually I get my cats back and within 5-10 minutes the staff are ready for me to check out. I do wish it was instant, as my cats are itching to return home once they're back in my hands, but I understand the process. I'm not sure when they added it, but they have a water / coffee station in there, and I really appreciate that. There's always a movie or two on the TV in there, and I've always admired how dogs and cats go on opposite sides. I haven't seen the wandering cat in a while... that means she was adopted I hope! APAW is going to continue being my go-to spot for all of my pet needs, and I hope they continue to do well.

Dear APAWs Veterinary Hospital Management,…read more I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the care my dog Remy received at your facility under the care of Dr. Johnson. Remy was not just a pet; he was my companion and part of my family for nearly sixteen years. I had him since he was just 13 weeks old, and he was truly my son. Because of this, I trusted your hospital to provide compassionate and honest medical guidance during what ultimately became the final days of his life. During Remy's first visit, I brought him in due to noticeable behavioral changes, weakness, and concerns that something serious might be wrong. I specifically asked Dr. Johnson whether Remy might be nearing the end of his life based on his symptoms. I was told that he appeared to be okay, that he likely had joint issues or a possible infection, and that further diagnostics such as blood work or imaging could be considered later. At that time, no blood work was performed and the examination consisted only of a basic physical assessment. Each visit cost $119. Remy's condition continued to decline. After another episode in which he collapsed, I contacted the office again and was advised to bring him back. During this second visit blood work was finally performed, and I was told that Remy was anemic and had a low body temperature. I also informed Dr. Johnson that his breathing had changed and that he was not eating. Despite my repeated questions asking directly whether Remy was dying and my request that he not suffer unnecessarily, my concerns were not clearly addressed. Instead, I was told that additional diagnostics such as X-rays and an ultrasound would be needed to determine what was really going on. I was quoted approximately $1,000 for X-rays and $700 for an ultrasound. I explained that given Remy's age, I needed honest guidance about his prognosis before moving forward with costly procedures. I asked what his realistic life expectancy might be and whether these tests would meaningfully change the outcome. Unfortunately, I did not receive a clear answer. Throughout these visits I repeatedly requested pain management to ensure Remy would not suffer if he was indeed nearing the end of his life. Pain medication was not initially provided and I was told to continue following up. Eventually a five-day course of narcotic medication was prescribed which appeared to help him tolerate the pain temporarily, but his condition continued to decline. Remy ultimately passed away just hours before my birthday. I was not physically present at the moment he passed because I was on my way there when a sudden hailstorm made it impossible for me to arrive in time. My aunt was with him and called to tell me she believed he would not make it until I arrived. I was able to FaceTime him and speak to him. I told him that if he was tired, it was okay to rest, and that we had sixteen beautiful years together and that he would never be replaced. His eyes moved while I was speaking, and he passed away approximately thirty minutes later. I will always hope that he found comfort in hearing my voice. After Remy passed away, I contacted the hospital to inform staff and asked whether I could bring his body in or if someone would retrieve him. I was told that my aunt could drop him off and that someone would meet her outside to receive him, which unfortunately did not happen. When I later returned to pick up Remy's ashes approximately one week later, I requested to speak with Dr. Johnson but was told she had already left for the day following surgery. Later that same day I received a call from Dr. Johnson from the office phone. During that call she stated that she had just learned that Remy had passed away and that I had asked for her. This explanation was confusing, as the hospital had already been notified when his body was brought in. During that call she offered a brief apology and thanked me for being Remy's "nurse" in his final moments. I corrected her and explained that I was not his nurse, but his mother. Based on my experience, I was left with the troubling impression that the approach to Remy's care may have prioritized additional costly procedures rather than providing clear guidance about his condition and quality of life. After Remy passed, I reviewed other public reviews online and noticed several other pet owners describing similar experiences, which raised further concern for me. In my case, it felt as though continued follow-up visits and expensive diagnostic procedures were emphasized while my repeated questions about Remy's prognosis and comfort were not directly addressed. It was only after I clearly stated that I could not proceed with the additional $1,700 in diagnostic costs that pain medication was prescribed. My review is purely based on the one experience with getting a spay, as I'm not sure of the other surgical services offered here. My dog is a golden retriever who is prone to anxiety, and she is my baby, so I really wanted to feel comfortable and ensure that she received the best care. I immediately felt at ease here. The surgery was quick, well done, and cost-effective! I highly recommend to all in the DMV for those looking for a spay location. Pros: Spay Surgery Cost: The cost of a spay here was very reasonable. I paid a total of $175 for the spay ($125) E-collar, meds and also a rabies shot, which I needed to get to keep my pup up to date. Efficiency: The whole surgery took about 2 hours, and the drop off process was very efficient as well. They will give you a call about 30 minutes before your pet is available for pick up. Surgery results: The surgery was performed very well. My pup quickly healed and did not seem to be in any pain. I feel that they really knew what they were doing, and did an excellent job spaying my pup! Friendliness: Everyone at this clinic was extremely friendly and genuinely helpful, it was truly a fabulous experience. The kind woman who took my pup in to the operation room had such a warm and joyful and comforting pretense, my usually anxious pup happily followed her into the room with no hesitation! Responsiveness: I had a few questions prior to spaying, and was able to get answers within 24 hours by calling the listed phone number, and leaving a message for Sue. I got a call back and clear and helpful advice. Scheduling Ease: It was pretty easy to schedule and reschedule my spay appointment. I was able to book an appointment sooooo much faster than I had been able to in the DC area, where there were waitlists up to 3-4 months. I called and was able to get on the schedule within the next month here-- a huge relief! Other: Location: (For my DC folks) If you don't have a car, this spot can possibly be a bit tough to get to, but I think it is still very worth it for the great experience, convenient scheduling, and relatively budget friendly prices of spay services. I actually ushered to the location from DC-- I will say, getting an uber here is a little bit of a test of patience, but it is possible, and most Ubers are pretty chill with transporting a well behaved pup as long as you bring a blanket to lay down to protect their car, and as long as you give them a bit of a heads up before they pick you up! Adoption services and microchipping: The spay spot also seems to offer adoption and possibly fostering opportunities as well. As I was waiting to drop off my pup, I say many of the pups who had been rescued being transported into the clinic with care and love. The people who work here really seem genuinely great!

2/5 stars…read more Unfortunately, my experience with Spay Spot in Upper Marlboro was very frustrating. My dog's birthday is 1/17/2026, but they entered it incorrectly in their system. I pointed it out at drop-off, and the front desk employee scribbled out the incorrect date and wrote the correct one on the paperwork, but never corrected it in the electronic system. When we picked her up, it was still wrong. That concerns me when you're maintaining medical records for a pet undergoing surgery. Communication was another major issue. They don't answer the phone and you have to wait for a callback. That's especially concerning after surgery when you're instructed to call if there's an emergency. We also had issues with her prescriptions. I asked at drop-off if we could get the medication prescriptions beforehand so we'd have everything ready for her recovery. I was told they couldn't provide them because they didn't know what medication she'd receive. However, we were told getting the medication directly from them would cost $60, so I'm confused about why the medication/cost couldn't be explained beforehand. We ultimately received two prescriptions and were charged $5 per prescription, an additional $10 we weren't told about. Then Walgreens couldn't fill the prescriptions because the veterinarian wasn't coming up in their system, requiring us to contact multiple pharmacies while my dog was recovering. There were also unexpected fees. We were told the procedure was $175, but it became $185 due to a lab fee. We were also told about an optional $90 bloodwork fee at drop-off. I understand additional services cost extra, but these fees should be clearly explained upfront. There was also confusion about a $20 deposit. We were initially told one was required to book, but when we actually scheduled the appointment, no deposit was requested or explained. The surgery itself may have gone fine, but the communication, recordkeeping, prescription process, and lack of upfront pricing transparency made this experience unnecessarily stressful. Would I use Spay Spot again? Probably not. I would look elsewhere for my next dog.

It's going on 6 hrs and she is till not finished. This is the last time. The dogs are already stressed. I really think they overbook because when I dropped her off my groomer wasn't even there.
