My husband and I decided to stop in here to eat, after seeing an episode of "Somebody feed Phil " that one was in Mississippi. But we saw this one and wanted to check it out. We decided to have steak, of course, and it was as delicious as we thought it would be! We shared one steak and still took some home. Our servers name was Clark and he was very attentive and had a great personality, he even made us a specialty cocktail. Very yummy! It was like a cherry cordial! So I finally got a chance to try a Doe's eat place. We went in at a weird time (2pm) and a stood around for a bit to be seated. The place was empty except for one person eating. I finally moved around to look around to the kitchen and got noticed. Our waitress (possibly the only one there) greeted us and helped us to our seats. She helped by providing recommendations and was very friendly. I ordered the ribeye plate but was super shocked to find out that my only options was a side of fries or steamed vegetables. I asked in surprise about no baked potatoes and was informed they could only be purchased after 5pm. The steak was ok. Not bad but not mind blowing. One of my coworkers got the Doe Burger and said it was ok and the fries were ok. Another coworker got 6 tamales and chili. She was super excited but after just one, she stopped eating them and said they were not good. This coworker has a genuine love of food and sadly didn't even take them home. She did eat all of her chili but got sick later in the evening. Not that there is any proof it was from the chili but she think it may be the culprit. So I admit, I was excited to try this place but I'm not 100% sure I can endorse it for lunch. read more

We drove 5.5 hours off a recommendation. I ordered a $70 steak, which came out well cooked, with half fat and very bland. Another person's Mac and cheese was very bland as well, tasted like noodles and butter. My friend's catfish was battered in bread and tasted like we had just taken him off the fishing line. The only thing they knew how to do was take a potato and put it in the oven. Another friend had a filet which was ok but it was not seasoned, but she ordered it well done so seems like that's all they know how to do. I will never be back. I'd rather go get a 20$ steak from my local grocer and I'd probably at least season it properly. I've talked to a few people that I've ran into and they have laughed at this restaurant. Solid 4 star option in Jackson. This place is inside the now closed Greyhound station. Very tastefully decorated, and still preserved charm. We went last night to try out this relatively new restaurant in town. They're claim to fame is large Steaks and Tamales... Tamales are good, not what I would order as an appetizer every time I go, but very tasty. Wife had the Mahi Mahi, I had a Bone in Sirloin. (One of the smaller options, only 1.5 lbs. These come with 2 sides. We got their Fries and Side Salad Real decent sized side salads. She said her fish was perfect, flakey, and flavorful. The fries tasted like they cut them, not out of the bag, some skinned. My steak was at least 1" thick, and the sear / temp was just about perfect. Almost perfect to not needing sauce. But will ask for steak sauce next time. We did not try a dessert, but one I saw looked very good. If you like steak you gotta try this place at least once. They have some very "Large" cuts for the really hungry. I will go back. Not the best that I ever had, but really decent. read more

Our lunch after church was really good. My husband ordered the ribeye with vegetables he said it was great, but would have been better if they had baked potatoes. I had fried shrimp and French fries it was so great good. Our waitress was so nice and served us well. We will definitely come back in the evening some time. From the outside this didn't interest me but I was out with colleagues and following our customer's recommendation. We sat in the bar area which had a small dining area and a nice decor. The bartender/server was great. Very friendly and attentive. We had shrimp starters which were quite tasty. I ordered the ribeye which was extremely thick cut and large overall. I made 3 meals out of it! Somebody else ordered the lobster tails which looked great and he said we're fantastic. Those too were good sized. Our customer had the filet and even that was 10 OZ. Very unique place. Old greyhound buss station converted into steakhouse. The portions are large but meant to be shared. Tried the bone in filet and it was out of this world. This was a simple meal salad, baked loaded potato, and 16 oz filet. However ever step of this was executed with precision. From the garlic butter on the plate before they set down the steak to the super crispy bacon on the potato, and the home made dressing for the salad. Very well executed meal. I will for sure return for a steak. One of the better steaks I've eaten in awhile. read more

So much potential unmet--great, fun space, but the kitchen has never gotten it together. This was my fourth visit (call me a glutton for punishment, but I keep thinking they'll get it together.) Be prepared to wait for your food, and then beg for your food, and then get the wrong food & eat it because you are so hungry. I won't even go into the work required to get the bill and the correct bill. I don't know how the original one has stayed in business. I expect this one to go out of business soon & the owners will have only themselves to blame. It's a shame. Maybe you could go for just drinks if you really want to try it? Good luck! read more

Passing through Jackson, I asked Siri for nearby restaurants. I was surprised to find there's a Doe's in Jackson. I first visited the original Doe's in Greenville, Mississippi, and have been a longtime fan. The building is an old Greyhound station and provides a cool and old-school funky vibe that works with the Doe's brand. It is hard to tell that it's not a bus station from the outside though. Our server was a really friendly guy that made us feel right at home. Again, right in line with Doe's brand. The tamales were spot on and the ribeye with fries was freaking delicious. We got there at 4 pm so we were given the lunch menu with the option that we could have anything from the dinner menu. I made the mistake of ordering the ribeye from the lunch menu and didn't ask any questions. The lunch ribeye is a thin cut of meat, not the big thick-cut steaks Doe's is famous for. That was on me for not asking and the menu stated that it was a 14 to 16-oz. steak. It's really all I needed but those big Doe's steaks are pretty spectacular. I've never driven into downtown Jackson but now I have a reason to when traveling through. We really enjoyed our time here and it was a nice pit stop. read more

Today, my boyfriend and I went to this restaurant for the first time. I am Latina and my boyfriend is Caucasian. We both love trying tamales from different places we go and comparing them to my mother's tamales. After ordering the "World Famous" tamales advertised on the menu, our server, "Liz," looked at me and said I should already know how to eat the tamales on the menu because I "look seasoned" (am obviously Mexican) and then explained how to eat them to my boyfriend. Liz also made multiple sarcastic comments while my boyfriend and I were talking to each other. After my experience, I would advise other Latinas to avoid this place. Aside from the offensive experience with our server, there were no other customers in the restaurant but for some odd reason the tables were filthy. One of the dishes Liz gave me to eat on was also dirty and caked with cheese. I would highly recommend avoiding this place if you are Latina, you do not like people speaking to others the way Liz spoke, or if you do not like dirty restaurants. read more

Nothing really special about it except that is located in a remodeled greyhound bus station. I expected more nostalgic decorations, but who cares when the food is this delicious. After living in Greenville and being spoiled by the original we took advantage of the new location in Jackson. The tamales were excellent! The salad was reminiscent but lacked Aunt Florence's care and attention. Ultimately, you come to Doe's for the steak and it was perfect. Since all the word-of-mouth reviews I really expected excellent food & excellent service which we didn't get (5 of us) on 3/6/22. 1) Ordered tamales as appetizer - they were ugh! 2) 1 male ordered steak medium rare. It came raw in the middle, but he said he could eat it that way. 2) 2nd person ordered steak & had no complaints, but she never complains, that we are aware of. 3) 3rd person ordered steak & it came with at least half of it all fat. 4 & 5) ordered family steak, medium, & told waitress not bloody. It came bloody so sent back to just cook a tad more & it came back dry & well done. 6) We weren't told that what we read that we misunderstood the family steak sides we ordered weren't 2 sides for both, when asked for the sides we were told 2 sides to share. Baked potato came in a small bowl that hardly held the bake potato & had to ask for butter & sour cream (wasn't offered) & butter came in little packets & so did the sour cream come in a packet. For a high-end restaurant this is unheard of. French fries came before the steak & had to wait for the steak. 6) Ordered coffee & it was cold & had to send it back to get a hot cup. 7) Salad was excellent. 8) Garlic Bread was excellent. 9. Seasoned French Fries pretty good. This was a birthday dinner for my daughter & needless to say I was an EXPENSIVE disappointment. Will pass on the word about this place, & probably never return. Service was not good & that alone kind of started us off not liking it there right away, & it just kept getting worse. We've been here a couple of times. The first time being the best. The last time being the LAST. Service was slow, our waitress was trying her hardest while helping the kitchen. But 2 hour wait for steaks, ordered a medium porterhouse and it came out cold in the center, no seasoning, and was gross, I had one bite and couldn't do it. The manager never even came out when we were there for well over 3 hours. Not one person had a steak cooked right. Side options are so limited, for $80 for 2 people they could at least put the butter on the potatoes for you. Love the ole Greyhound station, but sadly we won't be back. read more
