Had a great experience at Dockside Grille on PLX! The food was really good, everything came out fresh and tasted great. The service was just as impressive--the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. The atmosphere is definitely one of my favorite things about the place. It has a really nice style and a relaxed, welcoming feel that makes it a great spot to hang out and enjoy a meal. The music was also great and added a lot to the overall atmosphere. You can tell the workers actually care about making sure people have a good experience. Everyone we interacted with was polite, welcoming, and professional. Overall, great food, great service, good music, and a really nice atmosphere. This is a restaurant in the old Ramp location in Portage Lakes. It's a great space with indoor and outdoor seating and a nice size bar with a generous selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. The food is really good. We had fried green tomatoes and the walleye bites to start. The server--who was very friendly --recommended the Black Cod Hemingway and the Tomahawk Pork Chop. We got the cod and my friend ordered the pork chop to take home. I also ordered the key lime cheesecake to go. It all came out at the right temperature and was cooked just right! The only reason this isn't a 5 star rating is because we didn't get our salads that came with our entrees. When we pointed that out to the server, she was apologetic. We asked her to pack them to go. Beautiful setting. Nice building. Helpful and pleasant staff. Substandard food. I don't know what they used to make, what was called "calamari" but it sure wasn't squid. More like the seafood version of hotdogs. My shrimp po'boy was flavorless and my wife's Perch Tacos tasted like they were made from fish sticks. The fries were pretty good, but the best thing was the mango slaw side dish. Not sure what the intent of this restaurant was supposed to be, perhaps it's just a bar for the local pontoon crowd. The service was wonderful, and the location is hard to beat. We enjoyed sitting outside by the lake, taking in the beautiful view and the cool breeze. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. Most of the dishes lacked flavor, and the only taste that really came through was the yum yum sauce drizzled over everything. The service and atmosphere were definitely the highlights of our visit. If you've recently lost your sense of taste, this might be the perfect place for you. My wife and I attended their soft opening this past weekend and we did enjoy ourselves. I would like to give the good and the bad. Our server was absolutely amazing, respectful of our time and went at a slow pace as we requested. Our drinks were top notch and delicious. We ordered the fried green tomatoes for our appetizer(no picture) and they were some of the best ones we have ever eaten. For main course my wife ordered the grilled chicken and I ordered the basket which you could choose between fish or shrimp. I chose shrimp. The chicken was good along with the corn on the cob and mashed potatoes, however my wife felt like it was a lot smaller portion than what we saw at other tables who ate earlier. My shrimp were ok they were over cooked as they were a little chewy and my fries were tasteless. The coleslaw was very yummy. The side salads were pretty lackluster and the orange that you see in the picture was them adding cheese on our request. Yeah they need a little help. With that being said they tasted good and the white French dressing was delicious. Some issues that we had, but I understand it was just a soft opening, but felt they should know. 1. One of the owners came over and grabbed my wife's salad bowl that was still in front of her with a fork in the bowl and salad still left and took it without asking if she was done. 2. One of the servers came and took our appetizer plates with our silverware on it and this was even before our food came out. He did ask but didn't ask if we wanted to take our silverware. So he had to bring us more. They were super quick to grab drink glasses but never came and took my red solo cup drink. Nothing wrong with that just weird. Their dessert was limited and we had the key lime cheesecake. It was very lackluster as well and wasn't a very large portion. We also quickly noticed they were not very good at slowly bring appetizers. And then a salad and then the main course. They were pushing it out quickly. We got ours slow because we waited between ordering appetizer and dinner and we told our server we wanted it slow. Some people like it fast like that. I want to enjoy my dinner and time out. So many places I feel like they rush you through in 45 minutes it is just not enjoyable Overall we liked the place, the food and the service. We understand there will be some growing pains and so happy to have another original place to eat at in the lakes. Came in this past weekend and ordered the brisket burger. It was charred to a crisp and tasted like eating a piece of charcoal. The $6 Mac and cheese was definitely from the box and also not very good. Upon asking the waitress to just take the $30 meal off the bill since I only took one bite out of each, I was told that no other customers have ever complained about the burger, and that somehow meant I couldn't get it comped. Ended up being $93 for 2 people and I didn't even eat. Better before rebranding. read more

Perch tacos no bueno , should have kept it simple cilantro, pica de gallo, lime this would have made it edible. I had high hopes when I walked in at lunch with 90% of tables filled with "white and blue" hairs. I now realize they were long haul covid survivors with permanent loss of taste. Get better employees who know the restaurant business. They would not change our table which was backed up to the high traffic area. Claimed other tables were reserved- no reserved signage, two of them never filled during time we were there. Brought part of my meal before the appetizer. Forgot my soup-brought it without a saucer and a spoon in the bowl which was hot because they super-heated the soup, then brought a second bowl. The peel and eat shrimp was super messy, but the waitress never appeared at table to be asked for extra napkins, had to go wash hands. One sink not working. Waitress did not do anything but plop dishes down on the table- didn't ask about dessert, she refilled glasses spilling water. Food misses the mark-it is typical freezer-heat-plate bar food, and overpriced. On the deck there is a "no children past this sign" high up on poles. Why? Is the deck railing not secure? There was a family with a small child at a table right on the rail so clearly some people can have children "beyond this point." It is very chaotic there. No one is in charge. It's as if they are running in emergency mode. It was not that busy and not a weekend or high traffic night. I thought it was a hot mess with training issues, kitchen issues, and no one there to care about the customers. We will never return. read more

So glad to see this prime location open again.We went with some neighbors last Friday night. (Get a reservation)..We had a table reserved @ 6PM. I was jammed. I had to park 2 football fields away. But worth the walk. I started with a glass of Chardonnay wine. The wine list could use some help. Pretty limited selections. But I'm partial as retired wine steward. Hopefully that will change. The menu is very eclectic. Mostly seafood. For which I am glad to see in Portage Lakes (PLX) I got the muscles app. My wife got their cheeseburger. ordered medium, but it was well done. The Muscles were excellent, Took me back to a Tapa's bar in Barcelona. The burger was also good. Quality in all prep and contents of the dishes. Service was a bit slow. But I blame that on it being one of the first nights open to the public. That too will improve. We did have a great waitress. She tride her best to keep u with the chaos of a jammed restaurant. I tipped her very well for her efforts. All in all, a great place is starting off with a bang. We'll be back when the dust settles a bit and the newness wares off some. I had a horrible experience. I got here with a group of friends at 8:05 and did not get greeted until 25 minutes later. I tried asking a different server before being greeted if someone was coming and she was not very friendly .Then our server got all of our orders; then our drinks didn't come till 8:55 and she said she did not put our food in yet.... After waiting over 20 minutes... so we said we will cancel it and leave . Then we heard the hosts saying it's "9:07" and rolled their eyes that we were still here . We needed up not eating and delayed our night out by over an hour just to get served one drink . I am very disappointed. read more

We had a reservation for 5:15pm on Wednesday before a holiday July 4th weekend, seated immediately (make reservations if can). Found a parking spot, but when I left, the paved lot was full, but had extra non paved parking adjacent. Fast friendly service by Trisha. Newly decorated modern ocean themed, very comfortable new large booth -view of the lake /boats docked. Large beautiful patio, but was 95 degrees so opted inside! We had stuffed pepper appetizer, perch tacos with a add on salad, and 2 drinks. Appetizer came out lukewarm and accompanying tomato/marinara was ice cold. Perch tacos ...cut up small pieces of breaded fried perch filets with fire roasted salsa, cabbage, and aioli...despite that, the flavor was seriously lacking. The bill was $84 w/tip....for tasteless food. Service was good and the atmosphere was the best part of the experience. The drinks were not too bad, but expensive. One and done for us. read more

Great atmosphere, hostess and server was excellent very friendly and kept checking to make sure we had what we needed and refilled water often. Went there with a friend. We had the fried green tomatoes as the appetizer and they were fantastic. We both got the special triple fish which had two types of fried fish, shrimp and fries. Very large portion, the fish that was in nuggets was a thicker fish and lighter batter was very good, shrimp was good but a little too much batter. The other fish which was two large fillets didn't suit us. I like a thin crispy batter on fish and this was a very heavy thick and kind of hard vs crispy batter that to me over powered the fish. I definitely will go again but just not order the fried fish which I think might be their cornflake batter... seems like I saw that somewhere. I should have asked about the batter before ordering the fish. This is really a nice place and we enjoyed ourselves. It was busy but our food came out super fast and everyone was busy.
