Waitress was amazing! I think they were short staffed this night so service was slow but I don't fault them at all for this! They were nothing but lovely. but the food and drinks...oh boy. We ordered white wine and a Bacardi and coke. The wine tasted like vinegar and the Bacardi and coke was definitely not Bacardi. The salads and dressing was good! The halibut was not halibut.....the salmon was burnt.....and the chicken Marsala....straight from a bag and microwaved. Really really bad, left hungry, our pockets empty and feeling bad for those poor waitresses. read more

My wife and I have lived in the Akron area all our lives, and this was our first, but definitely not our last at Wise Guys. We loved the decore and the food was excellent. The thing that made the experience for us was the service. Our server's name was Claire. Being our first time, we grilled her on the menu and wine list. Not only was she knowledgeable; she was patient with us and gave us exemplary service. We never had to ask for anything. It was like she read our minds. You don't see that very often. read more

We went to the Wise Guys Lounge on a whim, and we were not disappointed. We got the French onion soup, duck wings, Shrimp Scampies, and Tuscan mussels. I have been here twice. Tonight I had the filet. It was so tender. It melted in my mouth. Their sides are a generously portioned. Their Tiramisu is very moist. I think it's the best I've ever had. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Went there yesterday evening. The decor is early Nick Anthe and I don't believe it was ever redecorated. Can't understand how much it has gone down hill since 2022. I wish the food was as good as they say on their website, but I can't say that it was. I had the scampies (3) with angel hair pasta. They lemon butter sauce was ok albeit the shrimp were really overcooked and tough. My spouse had the salmon with a side risotto that was tasteless. The salmon portion was small and very fishy tasting. I suspect the salmon was frozen. My wife said it was the worst salmon she has ever had and left most of it on her plate. All in all the meal was below subpar. That might be why the place was practically empty except for the bar. We've eaten there before but this will be the last time. Did I say it was very, very disappointing? What was really laughable was the hostess asking when we arrived if we had 'reservations' for the empty restaurant. Well now we can say, 'yes we do' but without that feeling of 'doubt or uncertainty'. We won't return. read more

We celebrated a birthday here and it was a great experience from start to finish. The retro ambiance is worth a visit and our server Jody was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We tried the salmon, blackened chicken and fettucine alfredo, all of which were excellent and had huge portions. Cocktails were great and very strong!! read more

Let me set the scene. We entered the restaurant with our spirits high, we were seated instantly, and we were very excited. The restaurant was mostly empty, this should be been red flag number one. We got our waitress and she had no idea what the specials were, and was incapable of telling us any information when we asked. We were unsure if she even worked there or if she was a not waitress in disguise. So, we decided to start with a few appetizers, we ordered the calamari and the crab cakes. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The crab cakes were sixteen dollars, and we only received two total. They were also undercooked, wet in the middle. I do NOT like it wet. The calamari was served on a large pile of lettuce, which is kind of stupid because they were trying to make it look like there was more than what was there. It was 13 dollars, and we only received 10-12 rings, very disappointing. Me and my companion ordered Greek salads for our entrees, spirits high despite the situation. I asked the waitress specifically if it was a dinner sized portion, she said yes, and it was really small in fact. So she lied.The menu said the salad came with two types of olives, I only got one. The salad was also doused in oil, and this was no olive oil, it must have been some sort of vegetable alloy. This caused a very irritable reaction, and I was very close to shitting in my trousers later that night. My companion ordered French onion soup, and it was flavorless, barren, vacant, meaningless, hollow, senseless. Very demoralizing. They were also out of a myriad of things. At some point I asked the waitress for some crushed red pepper, and she never brought it to me. She was on her phone most of the time, just standing there doing nothing on her phone, it was very disheartening. In conclusion, this experience made me feel very uncomfortable, sad, crestfallen, dejected, horrific, gruesome, grisly, and possibly unforgivable. One star because I cannot give any lower. I'd give zero if I could. The only uplifting part of this hellish resturaunt experience, was the complimentary bread. I would never spend my money here again, and I wish I could take it back. This will be my biggest regret, till the day I die. read more

Waitress was amazing. Appetizers were decent then everyone at my table had rubbery chicken. Then we all lost our appetites & finished our appetizers. The manager came over & said we had to pay for all the food & only got 10% off. I said there is no restaurant that would do this. I'll pay for my appetizers, salad & drinks but I'm not paying for something I didn't eat. To top it off my friend left his business card & said we're not paying for what we didn't eat. If the owner has a problem he can call me. Then he was being bullied by the owner, saying he was going to post our pictures everywhere saying we dined & dashed which is not what happened. We paid for what we ate. We all only took about one bite from our entrees bc the chicken Was so rubbery we couldn't eat it!! Never never never go back to this place again! read more

Amazing experience! I loved this place so much I wanted to keep it a secret. Wise Guys is an absolute gem. I came here from Tampa, FL visiting relatives and was astounded at the experience at this restaurant. With an old world speakeasy kind of feel, this was the most welcoming establishment I have ever visited. I had the crab cakes, second wedding soup, and the nightly special of pho. This was THE BEST FOOD I have eaten in years, and I also was treated to wonderful conversation. The owner even came to our table to ensure we were satisfied. I would recommend this establishment to anyone-its the perfect place for date night and long conversations. Will definitely return! read more

Definitely doesn't look like much when you are driving through the neighborhoods to get there however once you are inside it's like you stepped out of one world into another. The ambiance is definitely old school, older decor setting. If you don't make a reservation make sure you walk in before 6pm. We went at 5:15 and within 45 min the place was full, and reservations were already completely booked for 6. Everything on the menu is great, we did calamari and the special firecracker artichokes for apps, highly recommend both! For an entree i actually got the crab cakes (appetizer) and a salad, the crab cakes were TO DIE for, I kid you not. Hubby goT scallops over risotto and the risotto Was melt in your mouth. I loved this place. We've been here numerous times but this last time wasn't good. In today's extremely high priced foods both my husband and I waited for over an hour for our food. There were no large parties to deal with and then when we received our steaks they were burned outside and you couldn't get past the taste of the burned steak. The waitress never offered any explanation. If I'm spending over $100 on a meal I would like one that's not burned or waiting for a long time just to receive a burned steak. Without a doubt this is one of my favorite eats in Akron! Easy to drive by but worth the stop. An old school Italian eatery where passion for food is obvious in every bite. The pasta is fresh and the steak was one of the best I've ever had. The only issue we had was there were too many amazing appetizers to choose from so the two of us ended up ordering three!!! My husband and I were out in search of a new restaurant. We are from Cleveland but travel to Akron looking for a steakhouse. When I googled steak house, Wise Guys was the first to pop up. Upon walking in its a dim low lit ambiance but First lets give a huge shout out to Joe for making the newcomers feel so welcomed. She was bubbly and very attentive. She made great recommendations and we had good conversation. Now the food!!! When I say everything we ate was DELICIOUS!! You know it was when the conversation on the way home we were still talking about how we should have taking something home. We ate the crab Rangoon appetizer OMGGGG!!! I had steak and shrimp!! It was as big as the plate and the shrimp looked like scampi. My husband had the chicken parm which came with spaghetti. I'm not a red sauce fan but when i say that big A chicken breast was seasoned to perfection you better believe it. I wasn't supposed to text this much but Oh well I hope i helped and go visit Joe. A pleasant surprise trying this place. Expected average and got outstanding. Our waitress was new but did well and was so awesome. We started with the calamari which was delicious. The salads with the house made dressings were fresh and beautiful (no iceberg here thankfully). Entrees were fairly large portions and really good. And if you like dessert, save room. Old school find! Good wine selection and decent prices. They recork so go for a full bottle. We had the charcuterie board and calamari. The charcuterie was very good...my only suggestion is to use pitted olives instead. The calamari was crunchy and not chewy or overdone. I had the chicken and it was delish. Lemon and caper flavor with a light breading. The portion was huge. My hubby had the spaghetti and meat balls. The sauce was a bit thin for his liking but plenty of flavor. Every dessert we wanted to try was sold out so I just had an espresso and my hubby a plain coffee. The port was not a vintage so I passed on it. I prefer an aged tawny. read more

First time dining at wise guys. The resturaunt has a nice upscale atmosphere and is divided in two sections. One side is a full bar with some tables and the other side is a larger dining area. The staff is very friendly and the menu has great option from charcuterie, crab cakes, soups and salads, great steaks, seafood and pasta dishes. They also have a new chef and after tasting the dishes he had prepared, I would have to say you may want to book a reservation. We ordered an off the menu chefs tasting, started off with tuna crudo with a citrus vinaigrette. Delicious! Next was my favorite bone marrow with some nice charred bread. Also had the seafood tower with fresh king crab legs, lobster tails, steamed mussels, oysters and clams. For the main course we had whole grilled bronzino, and pork cheek ragu on pappardelle. The fish was seasoned and grilled to perfection. And the pork cheeks were so tender and the pasta was cooked to a perfect aldente. To finish we had the limoncello cake, tuxedo cheese cake and cannoli. Everything was really delicious and would highly recomend dining here! read more

I'm going to start them off at a three (3), I've lived in OH for twenty +, and have never visited, but have heard good reviews from friends. It was early Friday, we grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered drinks. They were a little understaffed at the time but it wasn't a problem. Orders came through in a timely manner, everything I ordered was very spot on, Filet mid-rare, loaded baked potato. I'm starting at 3 hoping to work my way up. This place has been on my list for a long time to try and got the chance last week on the way home from work. Not sure if they took a hit from Covid or what, but it was pretty much a fail across the board. First off, the place was basically empty which is never a good sign. I sat at the bar that was about 1/2 full with a couple other parties other than myself. Bartender was nice and drinks were fine. Owner dude was sitting at the end of the bar, just sitting there kind of checking his phone every once in a while. Maybe it's just my personal quirk, but that's always a weird vibe for me when they just sit there and do nothing. Anyway, food was where they lost me. Ordered a shrimp cocktail Pretty standard for a steakhouse right? Well props I guess for trying to be different, but it came out warm which was kind of a shocker when not expecting that. I guess they boil the shrimps fresh or something? 4 medium sized shrimps so a little light, But then when I'm dipping into the cocktail sauce it was like something got dropped in there. I dug around a bit and there was just a stem of basil kind of bunched up and that's what they poured the cocktail sauce over. Just overall kind of weird. Main food comes out. Filet, with grilled asparagus and baked potato. In a nutshell, the asparagus (although completely cooked) was ice cold. The baked potato was like 80% done, still a bit hard towards the middle. Steak was okay, nothing to write home about, but man it looked like it was just plopped out of the skillet onto the plate - juice and grease everywhere. Apparently the underdone / cold food was not just me as while I sat there a couple other folks sent their food back. Kind of felt like a post-Covid environment where all they could get in the kitchen was undertrained or inexperienced help with no oversight or quality control. Would love to add this place to my list - it's my kind of place, but based on this experience just hard to justify going back. Hope you have better luck and they turn it around. read more
