Really reasonably priced. Overall good quality. Service has always been fast, but I have gone during times when it is less likely to be busy and walk in (drive thru had 3 cars today, so that's slower). Their chocolate icing will disappoint - the flavor is a very weak chocolate - really hard to detect the chocolate. Same with their chocolate chocolate donuts. French crullers are pretty good. Best donuts in tacoma by far. We found this place because it's right down the street from my daughter's school. We've become "regulars". All we ever get are the donuts so i can't speak for anything else, but this place has ruined me for grocery store donuts. Can't eat those gummy dough gobs any more! Sometimes we catch them at just the right time and the donuts are warm inside still and just crunchy enough on the edges and the icing makes it melt in your mouth. Soooooo good! The angel bars are second only to their service. I love coming to Dockside Donuts before work and getting their amazing treats. Their specialty seems to be the angel bar. I'm happy they have a drive thru - my son has soccer at the Tacoma Soccer Center just down the street and I swing by here after dropping him off and get my morning coffee fix and a bacon maple bar for my husband. So Tacoma has several coffee shops. The Dockside Donut place was the closest to the train depot and that's where I started from. Here's what I saw. 90% empty display. Only thing left were a couple chocolate cake donuts and a couple filled croissants. There was a separate case with muffin type things too. Nothing was labeled so I had to ask the crabby Asian lady behind the counter. I could hardly understand her. The place wasn't clean and looked in bad shape. A line of booths and a few tables and chairs. No decoration except a silvery garland over the display case that looked like it just hadn't been taken down last holiday season. No music, the ladies restroom was out of order and the view is an industrial street. Mmmm not coming back. The only reason I gave them a star is because the donut was good. I got the maple bar and it was good, but the worker's manners were distasteful. She was rude as fuck. I was completely dumbfounded by her attitude that she has for no reason. I have 20 minutes to kill before the train come a knockin, so I turn a sharp left into the drive thru. Stark empty open parking lot, uneven cement lumps and bumps throughout the vast space, I felt like I was about to make a shady deal in the corner of the worn out lot...and I was...but I'm trading my twenties not for a thumb size baggie...but a large pink box of sugar and flour HEAVEN! (Very reminiscent of my hometown Portland Voodoo donut box...sigh...), but boy did they knock voodoo down a few notches. This place is LEGIT!!! The lady (probably the owner), was fast and to the point. I got a selection of "fancy" donuts. Which included that indescribable heavenly angel bar. I love that the whipped cream that was piped in it was not too sweet at all. That is seriously perfection, since sweet whipped cream with a sweet maple or chocolate or any glaze is waaay too sweet. I like the cream horn. It's split open with a Bavarian cream piped inside and powdered sugar and coconut shavings on top! Big! Where Dairy Queen used to be by the train station. It's appropriate that it took the place of a very beloved ice cream shop. The people are wonderful there. I went there after my graduation at the Tacoma Dome and they were so nice. "Snotty Asian woman", some one says. Haha, that's the place! The first time I ventured by here, I left after a snappy, rude encounter with her pointing back to a rack of donuts on the other side of the room when we asked what kinds of donuts they had. But when my daughter and her boyfriend were able to peer beyond her to the rack of donuts, and were glad of it, I thought it was worth a try again. We survived and left with the goods, but a word of caution...don't refer to donut as "plain" when it's really "glazed" and don't say you want the raspberry one with out specifying filled or knot, because you will be berated with monotone Chenglish and eye rolls! Also worth noting, once she's crabbily taken the donut order, retrieves them and comes back, her demeanor lightens just a bit, adds some intonation and asks, with an almost-smile, "you wann somethin a drink?" We didn't, but my daughter says the coffee is "really good". We got a dozen for $10 (sign said $9, but I guess we ventured beyond "regular donut" in one or more of our choices...still, $10 for a dozen donuts is good, especially when the dough is light and soft inside, crispy and golden outside, smathered in sweetness or sloshed in raspberry/lemon. Price ranger per dainty is $.75 to $1.25, but you get a better deal when getting one dozen. And don't say I said so, but I think she lives in there. It's always "just the window" that's opened and the few glimpses you get of her area sorta says home. Check it out! read more

After some early morning Christmas shopping I had plenty of time to stop and decided to treat myself and my co-workers, didn't want to look like a complete glutton and wanted to try a good variety so I got 2 dozen of the assorted and headed to work.... Needless to say my co-workers love me and so did my mouth but the my hips and everything else will not, especially tomorrow as I head to the gym but stay an extra hour longer! I tried a few OK, and they were ALL so delicious:):):) Like and fluffy, sweat yet, not overbearing, in a creamy kind of way. And as Jay S. stated as well, no grease AT ALL!! This place is the real deal.. a throwback to a time before Krispy Kreme when fresh, delicious donuts were the pastry of choice....These ARE your grandfathers donuts.. No air puffed scooby snacks here.. no 'healthy' organic muffins or glutten free anything .. This is the home of old school. freshly deepfried donuts of every description.. Cake, old fashioned, raised, bars, fritters.. glazed, filled, iced, powdered.. anything you want Bottom line, this place is a Willy Wonka's for donut lovers.. Add to that good coffee, fair prices and owners that are friendly and attentive ... and even sing pop music from the back room.. I love yelp. If it weren't for Jay S.'s review on this place, I might have continously drove by as I have on the many days that I get off the bus at the Tacoma Dome Station. Usually, after such a long commute, I just want to rush home. Thank goodness for yelp, Jay, and donuts, in no particular order. I've only tried one donut, the coconut creme donut. I had never heard of the combination, and after today, I'm confused. What else has the donut world left out of their cases?!!! The donut is huge, and has a nice, light coconut filling. The glaze on the donut is a little sweet and cruncy, but the filling is so delicate, that it forces you to overlook the minor irritations. This donut is kind of a cousin to an eclair. I bet this donut would be so yummy warmed up, but who can wait that long to get it home? read more

I am a serious donut fan. I used to travel for business and I have had donuts from all over the world. Honestly, Dockside Donuts hands down has some of the best donuts I have ever had. Have you ever experienced your mouth tingle from an explosion of flavor? Where you stop for a moment and think, "WOW!!" ? I do this every time I enjoy the Raspberry Jam donut, Strawberry Twist, Maple Bar and Glazed Apple Fritter. The owner is very attentive and polite and has no problem handling multiple customers at once, even between her drive through and shop. The shop is clean and smells soooo good, the smell reminds me of when I was a child and my Dad used to pick me up from school (Holy Rosary Tacoma) and we would drive up to Mrs. Frisbees Bakery Coffee and Snack Shop out on 38th street (no longer there since 2000). I am so glad I can bring these sights and smells into my children's lives as well. These are the feel good memories children never forget, it always amazes me how donuts make people happy and smile. I actually threw the donuts away after two bites each. To me, a maple bar should be "frosted" with maple, their maple is as thin as glaze, to the point that it cracks like glaze as you bite it. I also got a blueberry cake and it tasted sugary fake, like how banana and strawberry candy are sugary fake and not like the actual fruit. Never had a blueberry cake donut like that before. The donuts were all very basic, nothing was interesting like "ooh I want to try that!" I also got a small Redbull that cost as much as a medium sized Redbull. The people working were not friendly, it seemed to annoy them to have to help us. They put all our donuts in one small bag...I hate when donuts are put in a bag instead of a box because it ruins the topping, it makes the toppings from each donut get on the others.
