I went for a morning donut run and decided to try out this family-run donut shop I found on Google Maps. The reviews were mostly positive, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It was before 10 a.m. on a Monday morning, with just one car in the drive-thru and me in the shop. I ordered their "$25.00" dozen selection, and it blew my mind how impatient, rude, and smart-mouthed the elder lady was while I was deciding on my choices. Keep in mind, I was the only customer in the shop at the time. Two other customers came in a few minutes later, but they didn't seem in a hurry. The way the employee acted, you'd think there was a line of 15 people behind me! I'm wasn't familiar with the names of all the donuts, and only three were labeled (I wish I'd taken pictures), so I was guessing and pointing at the ones I wanted. I'm telling you, the way she stared at me like I was stupid and wasting her time was so embarrassing--I could feel my face heating up. I'm not sure if I caught her on a bad morning, but I definitely won't be going back. That was my first and last experience there. I've worked in retail and have a thick skin when it comes to rude people, but having my morning ruined like that really threw me off. I didn't want to stoop to her level, so I didn't respond back by matching her energy. Being raised to "respect" your elders can be a pain sometimes. I didn't even make a fuss about the fact that the advertised "$25 dozen donuts" ended up costing me nearly $40 sum, because I understand times are getting hard and inflation is a thing. I was having a great morning and wanted to support a local business, but she made it uncomfortable. I rarely write negative reviews (I've written only two in my life), but she earned the third one. The donuts were fine, but honestly, you can get donuts like that anywhere for cheaper. The shop itself was quaint, with tables lined against the walls, all with window views. It was quiet and had a bit of a nostalgic vibe. It's disappointing I couldn't make it one of my go-to spots, but maybe you should try it yourself. If you do, I'd recommend going through the drive-thru to avoid the awkwardness and feeling rushed in front of other people. She might have ruined my day with her customer service, but based on the majority of reviews, maybe I just caught her on a bad morning. I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes, so it's safe to say I won't be going back. Cussing out an older lady over donuts and bad service won't be added to my 2025 karma list nuh uh no thank you. Rating: 2 stars -- only because, although she was rude to me, the older male employee serving the next customer beside me was friendly and patient with them while I was being rung up. I have been eating donuts my entire life, and I am not a young man. Dockside Donuts ranks right at the top for taste, texture and appearance, hands down. Even the simple glazed donut is light and fluffy, full of flavor (perfect for dunking). This donut shop is well worse going out of your way to get their delicious donuts. read more

Great classic donut shop. Have been looking for a shop that wasn't Legendary and opened earlier than Top Pot in the Federal Way area. While not immediately in FW it was only a 15 min drive and well worth it. Classic donuts ready at 5am. All the donuts were good and just as I envisioned. Large parking lot and a decent size interior if you want to eat there. They also have a drive thru. read more

This is a nice little family-run donut hole on the way to Fife, on Puyallup Avenue. They have a huge selection of fat pills, and I've tried several that were very good. My favorite is their bacon covered maple bar. That little hunk of sin is to die for, it's so tasty. The nicest thing is, unlike most maple bars, Dockside's are just as light and fluffy as the rest of the donuts. read more

Growing up, some of the people on my swim team talked about Dockside Donuts and its coconut angel bars during swim team practice. They could not decide to whether to go or not because they had heard it was in a neighborhood like something out of the movie "8 Mile". It was not like that when I visited yesterday, Wednesday 24 November 2022. Yes, it is in an industrial part of Tacoma near the water, with trains and cop cars running past, fence topped with barbed wire lining the parking lot, and the occasional homeless person walking past, but... that does not make Tacoma like Detroit. I pulled up around 2 p.m. and went through the drive-thru, it looked like the main eating area was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the lady at the window was friendly and helpful in placing and filling my order. I ordered one maple and one chocolate angel bar. I am not a big fan of coconut, so when I learned they only had two types of angel bars left, I was like, perfect! One of each! An angel bar donut is a bar donut with something like whipped cream filling a donut sliced lengthwise. I do not eat whipped cream very often, but I remember it being thicker, so the filling might not be whipped cream exactly. It was light, fluffy, creamy, and not too heavy or rich. The donuts were airy and not too greasy. And the frosting was a light coating, making it possible to taste all of the components of the donut at once. Absolutely amazing, ate both donuts in one go and they tasted just as good when I finished eating them as when I started. read more

This place is not really good. The service was bad. The lady at the drive thru windows wasn't helpful during my visit. When she handed me the clipboard to write total and tip. She handed me the clipboard with no pen and before I can tell her there's no pen to write she ran off. I used my own pen in my car. Then when she came back she asked for the clipboard back. She asked for the pen. I clearly told her she never gave me a pen and took off. Instead of apologizing she just said "you're the first person to tell me this." Then the coffee was bad. I could talk about donuts all night long but let's talk about the family that owns this business... Since this location opened I've been there watching this family work hard in a location that has pretty extreme customer ups and downs. Even with the experiences that they've had dealing with the local customers they managed to keep their drive-thru open after midnight almost every single night in a town that has no 24-hour businesses except for Walgreens which stopped being open 24 hours. Anyway... Absolutely great product but the love and the hard work that's behind it makes it all worthwhile. You do know coming here that your donuts are made by folks your mama would even like!!! 5 stars because I go in my car...their focus is on customer service and their donuts... Beat donuts ever. They're so fresh and delicious. Drive thru is added convenience and the customer services is always amazing. We've been coming here for year's because everyone LOVES their Angel Bars, my personal favorite are the coconut and maple ones, but the gave chocolate too. Because the Angel Bars sell out each morning usually , I called in 2 separate orders. One order was for us and the other to deliver to grandkids. We when arrived at driveup they had put them all in one box. It was a cluster f$%k trying to explain to them that I had placed 2 separate orders and why. The most underrated donut spot in Tacoma. I'm surprised by how few people know about Dockside Donuts. Most only know about Pao's or LeDonut, but I'd suggest breaking routine and giving dockside a try. What sets dockside above all the rest for me is the texture of their pastries. The crullers are light and silky, and their fritters have a nice crunch while remaining soft and pillowy on the inside. My favorites are the Maple Buttermilk Bar, Blueberry Fritter and Raspberry Bow tie. They also make a great bagel with Lox and cream cheese. I never write reviews but the customer service i received this morning was so bad. Admittedly, I was stumbling on the intercom when ordering but I am shy and tend to be timid when interacting with strangers. The person on the other side of the intercom was very short with me and after I said I wanted drip coffee with cream she interrupted me with "coffee what kind!? we have different coffee" and I told her drip coffee again and she proceeded to yell at asking what flavor and speaking over me even though I continued to say regular drip small. She must have misunderstood me but the interaction was so terrible I almost drove away. I didn't because I didn't want her to waste the coffee she was probably already pouring and it's a small business. In terms of the donut and product it's ok. I'd recommend paos donuts or Connie's donuts. Way fluffier, more fresh, bigger in terms of size, and better treatment towards customers.
