Great atmosphere. Being "dockside" adds a very relaxed and "beach" vibe to your experience. I had the Deluxe Dockside Burger, and it was awesome. The ordering and receiving line is similar to most boardwalk style shops, which adds to the appeal even more. I would have truthfully rated this higher; but customer service is fairly high on my list of values for food service. After paying for my order and waiting for it to be made, I heard my name get called to receive it. When I got it, it was missing the fries that came with my order. When kindly mentioning that the fries were missing, a young woman showed me my ticket, and how it did not include fries. I explained that based on the order requested and the amount paid that I should have received fries with it. She responded by saying "look, I don't know I'm just the 'expo', you'll have to ask someone else". I asked her if she was implying that I need to get back in line (which had 15 people in it) to review the order. She then said "I don't know." Luckily one of the guys working in the kitchen over heard the conversation, and he politely provided me with the fries on the order. The woman was not apologetic, and did not show any willingness to assist me after I had spent $20, and tipped 20%. This would have been an easy 4/5 out of 5, but I can't ignore bad customer service. read more

Asked if they had military discount and the response was no. A on the spot 10% off won't hurt you at all (born and raised in Sandusky). Meanwhile I went to two franchise businesses on Milan Rd and they had military discount (hmm). Small businesses we have to do better! Food service took about 12-15 minutes. Food presentation was nice but our walleye, perch, and perch sandwich did not have any flavor/seasoning. Sandwich only dressed with lettuce. Adding coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumber, etc go a loooong way. Ambiance is descent. Outside eatery with a great view of the lake. Only negative would be the bees and flies buzzing around your meal. read more

The food was good but the place hasn't had a good cleaning in decades. The poorly made menus were gross and hard to read. If they would take everything out of the building to steam clean it as well steam clean the inside of the building I would return. It could be a really cute place but right now it's just a very dirty place. read more

This review pertains to our recent experience over Labor Day wknd. We had a small group that came by for a few rounds before closing time. First and foremost, apparently they close before 10pm. We were enjoying drinks and they turned music off and flashed the lights which we assumed was last call. Moments later the staff turned off all of the lights, locked up and left without saying a word or cleaning up outside. The most disturbing part is it was a windy evening and everybody just left with tables being dirty (our table was dirty upon arrival as well...so much for Covid cleaning) and filled with trash that most definitely ended up in the lake due to the wind. Ate here for a lunch on a weekend and had great service on the patio. The food was typical bar food... hot off the grill, not fancy and served with a cold local beer. Our second experience was not as good. Late on a Friday night. Live music was good. Service was slow and not the friendliest. Probably because of how busy they were. Beer took longer to get to the table than our appetizer and we were literally sitting next to the bar. We both ordered street tacos and they arrived ice cold! We thought we had mis-ordered at first but no, just bad cooking. I'd recommend for a lunch on a hot day or just for a beer but I'd skip dinner if I were you... sorry, hate to give a poor review but I hope the team can work on this. read more

We're running out of nice road tip weather, so we decided to jump in the hot rod and weave our way up to Lake Erie for a fish sandwich...just because. Directly north from Dublin means Sandusky, so we picked this place based on a map and Yelp. Sandusky is a cute little town, but be advised that the Dockside Cafe is west of that and mostly surrounded by industrial areas and dicey looking neighborhoods until you get right up to the water. That said, its a cute spot right on the lake with a nice covered outdoor eating area and other tables right next to the water. We enjoyed seeing lots of families and young couples on lunch dates enjoying the scene. This is a walk-up counter place where your order your food and wait for it before seating yourself. We both ordered the perch fish sandwich special and split a large order of fries. The sandwiches were pretty good, and were obviously fired up to-order. The fresh-cut fries were also good, and a large was plenty for two adults to share. The three problems that I have with his place are, in no particular order, the staff, the level of cleanliness, and the price. The girls that took our order and gave us our food were a little less that pleasant - enough said. The food preparation area also looked a little less than clean, but as pretty much everything is deep fried we decided to go for it anyway. The main thing is that the two sandwiches, the one large fry, and two fountain drinks ended up being just over $50 with a 15% tip added in. We enjoyed our lunch, but not 50 bucks worth of enjoyment. If that doesn't bother you, or you really just have a craving for a good perch sandwich and fries, this place is fine. read more

It's a small, cute spot overlooking the water. We got lobster rolls to-go and they were good. As good as ones I've had in Maine? No, but there aren't fresh lobsters in Ohio so these were pretty good! ;) We came back for a drink later that (Saturday) night. They had a DJ playing music and a lot of boaters enjoying the great weather. The boyfriend had a frozen margarita and liked it. I ordered a rum punch and I wouldn't recommend it. View is great with boats skimming the waters and Cedar Point in the distance. There was a 2-person band playing when we came which made the meal that much better. Food: An order of tacos gets you 2 large large tacos filled with lime-y pico de gallo, lettuce, and your choice of meat topped with a delicious lime aoili. The Walleye taco was my first experience with the fish and it was tasty. White-flesh fish with a savory flavor and minimally rubbery texture. It was excellently breaded and fried - adding a wonderful crispy texture without being overly-greasy or over-powering. The chicken was pretty good, I couldn't quite pin the flavor down but it reminded me of a cajun mix. The meat was tender and juicy so no complaints there. I didn't try the burger so no comment although I did take a picture. Overall this is an excellent place to grab a bite and relax if the weather is nice. The Walleye was excellent in every sense of the word although $13 (market price) is admittedly steep! I would stop by here at least once on your jaunt through Sandusky though and treat yourself. read more

Stopped here on the way back from a road trip. On the water, beautiful view of Lake Erie, the Sunset and Cedar Point out in the distance. The other determining factor here was that it was dog friendly as we had our dogs with us. Pretty big selection of food. They offered fish tacos and lobster rolls. The wife ordered the fish tacos. I chose their burger and fries and local IPA beer on draft. I thought the burger was okay. The wife said her tacos tasted fine. The reason I kept this at a 5 is because I sort of knew this before arriving. I wasn't going to be expecting top notch restaurant quality food with a place that had quesadillas, hot dogs and burgers and fries on their menu. They had quite the mix of alcohol. It also helped that it was next to a big patch of grass. It helped entertain peoples kids and also spread the amount of people out who wanted to see the sunset from different vantage points as there was a small hill. If you happen to be near Sandusky. Want to watch the sunset and enjoy some cheap food or have a drink this is your place. We'll be back. Sometimes you just want fried fish on the dock overlooking Lake Erie. Today was one of those days. Luckily, the clouds broke and the sun shined. If not, this likely would be a sub optimal location. You are out in the elements. When those elements are good, like this summer, you have a relaxing place for a quick bite or a whole Sunday funday. We had perch and walleye tacos with a side of fries. The side of fries is good for a family of 4 or 6. Now let me tell you all this ambiance and good fried food is not inexpensive. We were pushing $40 for lunch without alcohol. They had a band playing cover songs and a view of the bay. The location is walkable from downtown too. read more

The Dockside is a must visit if you are on the North Coast visiting Sandusky. The Walleye and Perch tacos are fantastic. The outdoor seating is the best in town with beautiful views of Sandusky Bay and Cedar Point. On Mondays enjoy retro pop music from the DJ or live acoustic performers most other nights. read more

Dockside burgers and amazing French fries. Not sure what kind of seasoning the use on their fries but they are pure perfection! Our experience at the dockside Café was an interesting one. We sought this place out because it was on the water where we could enjoy a quick dinner with a great view while traveling through. The food is made fresh to order. It is walk up counter service, pick a seat and wait for them to call your name. There is only exterior dining. I am not sure if they have takeout in the winter time or if it is just seasonal. It's a great location and we would come back, but we had an awkward interaction with a staff member. since you order at the counter and the tip jar is by the register, you are paying for the service before you actually experience it. we ordered, stuck some cash in the jar and went to have a seat. When our name was called we went to collect our food but found that the order of fries that we had added to the fish tacos was not there. When we brought to their attention that we had ordered fries, they went back through the order to see if we'd paid for them. That is fine, but either way, we still wanted an order of fries. Instead of saying "no problem, sorry about that, it'll be an additional $3." The guy who had taken our order said "you asked him (referring to my husband) if he wanted to split a large order of fries and he said mine comes with fries" like the order taker was trying to prove to us that we didn't order them. I wanted to say "and then your coworker came up and said where is the blueberry vodka and at that point you ignored me when I said I'll also have fries with my tacos".... really, he had to go in to proving who is right and who is wrong instead of just happily placing an order for my fries? Anyhow, I didn't actually say that back, we just asked can we please add an order of fries? The food was decent. The fries were a bit over salted, but cooked perfectly and weren't the frozen variety which I appreciated. The fish in their walley tacos was good. The lettuce the served on them was field greens which looked pretty and fresh but was too soft and didn't add any crunch or substance to the taco itself. The food is fresh and overall we were satisfied. The view is gorgeous and you can't get any closer to the lake. read more

Good stuff. Beautiful view, you can go for a little walk on the pier after you eat. You can also see the roller coasters across the bay, which is neat. Good food, the fish tacos were really yummy. We picked this place while in town for Cedar Point because it seemed low-key and tasty, which it was. It would be 5 stars except for two things: 1) overpriced It's not complete robbery, but $13 for only two fish tacos? At a food stand? A little steep. 2) selection Food stand selection is usually pretty spare, but especially so here. It was a little tough for my picky eater. Grill cheese, chicken fingers, and hey maybe a vegetarian option for grownups too. I'm being picky.
