Doce Mesas is one of those places that instantly feels like a "go-to." We've been coming to the Oak Lawn / Maple Ave location since they opened and it's honestly become our favorite one (we don't go to the McKinney location nearly as much anymore). Food-wise, my repeat order is the fajitas, especially the steak + shrimp combo always a win. And when it's cold outside, their pozole is exactly what I want -- cozy, flavorful, and the green tomatillo flavor is so good. For drinks... I always get the mimosa (their version is so good): orange juice, a little grenadine, vodka, fruit sparkling wine, and topped with raspberries. It's the perfect "brunch but make it fun" drink without being too sweet. They're also known for the Chico Pacifico ceviche and it's a must if you're going with a group. Service here is a big part of why we keep coming back -- the staff is genuinely friendly and at this point they know us by name, which always makes it feel welcoming. One note: the valet situation is super convenient but it's shared with nearby restaurants so sometimes it can get a little chaotic depending on the time you go. Not a deal breaker, just something to expect. They do take reservations and the patio is gorgeous -- honestly my favorite patio in Dallas. It's a cute restaurant, was a little difficult to find initially. The restaurant itself is cute with a patio area and a nice vibe inside. It was extremely loud in there though, I couldn't even talk with the others in my group hardly. We were basically yelling at each other as if we were in a club. To be fair we were seated by a large and loud group so that certainly didn't help. The service was good, the waitress we had was super patient and did a great job checking on us. I will say the food to be was just mid. I think it was pretty pricey for the flavor and portion. I got the Verde enchiladas and they were very skinny enchiladas, with rice and beans that were a bit dry. The wine I had was good though, it was the Meioni Pinot. It was delicious. read more

This was the third and final location of Doce Mesas that I had not been to yet. All of the restaurants have great food, excellent service, and a similar, upbeat atmosphere. I know I can always get in, have a great meal and get out without spending two hours. Avoid this location at all costs. It's so so unbearably loud - even on Thursday, it was impossible to hear my friends. The restaurant also played club/house music at full volume the whole time. This was enough of a deal breaker to never return. Service was slow but it seemed more like an understaffing issue than slow staff. We only saw a few waiters and everyone was running around. Beware the reviews of 2+ hour dinners are accurate. This location seems to be popular for large groups and smu students. The food is solid - I enjoyed everything we ordered. Chips and salsa to start, the green cilantro lime avocado salsa is so yummy. The queso was great. I loved my shrimp tacos - very simple and not greasy. Doce Mesas is new to the area and is in a nice building with plenty of windows and a patio. It is fairly small, but it was not crowded when we came in for lunch. The first thing that struck me was how flavorless the salsa was when the server set out the chips and salsa. It was obviously made with tomatoes but somehow just tasted like water. Soda is served by the can - this may be intentional as a nice feeling restaurant and didn't really affect my rating, but I wanted to note it as an FYI. I ordered the enchiladas blancas and I would simply describe them as okay. The sauce was good but the chicken was on the dry side - thankfully there was enough sauce to compensate. My favorite part of the meal was the rice. Overall, I do not see myself returning any time soon. read more

Came for national margarita day with my girlfriends. We enjoyed the drinks a lot and the food was pretty good too. For the restaurant to be so small it's really loud! I couldn't tell if it was the music or just the acoustics of the room. Things only became upsetting when we were rushed from our table. We wanted to hang and continue with our drinks but the table was cleared before we could barely finish our plates. And we were given our tabs immediately after some girls ordered another round of drinks. It was like they didn't want us to stay. We asked the waiter what the issue was and he said the manager told him to close out our tab. When we asked the manager he was all smiley but denied telling the waiter to do that. It left a bad impression so because of that my return here is questionable at best. I don't believe in patronizing where me and my dollars are not wanted. read more

I work in Maple Terrace and our team came down for lunch. We were able to sit on the patio which was very nice and clean. The queso and chips is where it's at! It was so good. My colleagues all ordered salads which looked great and I ordered the number 4. The food was delicious and perfect for a lunch. Our only issue was that the service was a little slow and our lunch lasted a lot longer than we were expecting. Some of us didn't receive requests until almost at the end of the lunch (spoon, napkin, tortillas). AVOID THIS DOCE MESAS ON MAPLE!! I have never experienced worse service in my entire life. Two drinks and dinner took 3.5 hours. No water refills, incorrect drink orders, incorrect food orders, incorrect checks. The restaurant and bathrooms were quite dirty for being brand new. My card got swiped for checks that weren't even mine. I called the manager (David) afterwards to share my experience and he said he can't provide any compensation because we "got our food and drinks". He also discounted my experience because "no one else complained about their service that night." This location/manager (David) will tarnish the Doce Mesas name. He took over an hour between filling our waters and bringing incorrect items out. I hate to make a bad review but it seemed like he was on something? He didn't remember anything we said when we'd order food or drinks. He would come back and ask us again if we want drinks/water/check and then not bring them. I love doce, but I'm really upset with this experience. It was ended up being a 4 hour ordeal and we wanted to leave much sooner but were not able due to checks not being brought to us when we asked several times. So we got sat down, it felt weird so I asked the hostess the couple infront of us was here first, she said come this way and sat us down. I saw people coming in and still being sat down while the other couple waited. After an hour of eating I finally seen the couple leaving after an hour long of waiting. I've seen this couple before at other Doce Mesas. I felt kind of angry that they made them wait while they sat a lot of other couples down. BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION. i'm so disappointed. we were seated at 6:30 and couldn't leave until they closed at 10. Extremely unprofessional waiter, inappropriate comments made, he kept pressuring more drinks when we said we drove. He messed up every single order and every single receipt. i've never experience anything like this. Our water cups were filled up twice over the course of 3.5 hours, and we had to ask over and over. We brought up the service politely to the location manager and he was extremely rude and said he didn't believe us. Seriously, have never been more upset with a dining experience!!! The visit to this location started off well. It quickly shifted, as we were quickly informed that the restaurant had run out of champagne. It was a Saturday during their brunch hours...how does this happen? Happen in Uptown?? We got past this and moved on to the food. Lunch was good and the second choice Margaritas were fine. As we ended our visit, the check arrived only to show double the amount of drinks that we actually had. DOUBLE. We questioned it and the server looked (acted) confused but took it back. It took another 15 minutes to bring back the new check, which was still incorrect. It took another 15 minutes to finally get the final correct check back. There was no apology. It was all blamed on the "system", which apparently got it wrong. I encourage everyone to check your final bill. I'm not sure what made me angrier. The no apology or the thought that they could actually rob us by over $100's. read more
