I will preface this review with this: you get what you pay for. I from out of state visiting and was trying I was trying to play some golf. One of the things I liked about this property is the fact that any level of golfer could come here and feel comfortable. They had kids activities going on all day, which I thought was cool. Their range is awesome with lots of targets. However, if you're in a pinch to play 9 or 18 holes, this probably isn't the place to come. It took us almost 3 hours to play 9 holes. The pace is incredibly slow and they book tee times way to close to one another. This is sort of to be expected. They try really hard to make this golf course inclusive for every skill level, so naturally there is going to be some slower play. If that is the culture that you want to uphold (one I applaud by the way) you need to space out your tees times more than 6 minutes apart. We were waiting sometimes 10 minutes on the tee box. There was even a 3 group pile up on the first par 3. All in all, I love what they are doing here. I think this just need to bring their business goals closer in line with reality so that they customers have a more enjoyable time on the golf course itself. read more

I hadn't been there in years, I tried to make a tee time and I was apparently sent to a 3rd party booking agent. I felt like I was calling tech support as I could only understand every other word she said. When I asked what shape the course was in she said she'd have to call the course...what? I thought I was calling the course. Then she tried to charge me the wrong rate, I am a resident. And I don't understand taking the credit card up front. Most everywhere else I play let's you book the time and pay when you show up. Maybe they get a lot of cancellations. I found the number for the restaurant....called...voicemail. I found a number for the director of sales....called....voicemail. Very frustrating, there has to be an easier way. read more

Played here yesterday for the first time with my buddy. Weather not the best obviously (hot and muggy) but the course/staff were top notch. Right when I checked in, I was greeted with a hello and considering how long their day already was, I was impressed. I was told about the pace of play and what the course offered to keep hydrated (water station right at the turn). Got the cart and they have attached blu tooth speakers, nice touch! We didn't have an issue with the pace of play considering the course was packed. The greens still have signs of recent aerating yet the rest of the grounds were well kept. The course is wide open so really good for all skill levels. I can see how this course sats they're one of the best muni's in AZ and I appreciated the attentiveness of the staff. 5 STARS FOR SUCH A WONDERFUL TIME. Walked up as a single, I'm from California and was in town for WM. The staff in the pro shop were so welcoming, as a matter of fact EVERYBODY WAS GREAT. Only waited about 40 min to play. Was paired with some locals, Nolan to be exact and the dude was a stud showed love. Will def recommend and play here again when im in town! Never golfed here and most likely never will. My problem with this golf course is the staff who answer the phones are poorly trained and rude. Ive called multiple times over a 6 month time period and have yet to speak with a manager. My car has had 2 broken tail lights from golf balls. My car has huge dents and currently a broken windshield which has already been replaced once and is currently cracked. I can't afford to keep replacing my windshield and other parts of my car because people don't know how to golf or are just careless like the staff at Dobson ranch golf course. Dobson ranch refuses to take complaints apparently because they never like to put me through to the manager and the manager never picks up. This is upsetting. read more

Being a midwest transplant, Dobson Ranch is the kind of course I grew up playing on, though without the elevation changes. Fairly self contained site so you're not playing between peoples backyards on both sides the whole way, with lots and lots of big old trees. Very forgiving if you're used to that. I'd rather have to navigate a shot through the woods than have to take a drop because I'm in desert rock, cactus or somebody's pool. And as it was pointed out below, ahh, that lovely cooling shade. As a bonus, they have drinking water fountains every couple few holes, and each one was ice cold which is much appreciated Shorter for an 18, but still plenty distance to give your driver a workout, and great accuracy practice trying to land your fairway woods and long irons on the green The summer rates are fantastic right now. $26 on a weekend with cart, $23 during the week? Especially nice during the week because you can be off in less than 3 1/2 hours read more

Decent golf course, although the new management company has no idea how to run an actual golf course. Every interaction from the website to pro shop feels like someone just took a corporate management class and tried to apply it to a golf. So I bought a round and paid $59, all good with that. Bought a 6 PACK of Beer and it cost me $42, are you kidding me???? My guess is a profit of at least $35, find some other way to pay for your driving range upgrades! Across the board, and almost all the courses I have played were $30 for a six pack of beer. The website says driving range is open until 9pm. Yelp claims it is open until 9:30pm. I arrived on 2/3/20 at 8:13pm and the pro shop was closed and ball machine locked. There was a kid filling the machine so I asked him if the range was closed (range lights were still on and a handful of other golfers a still hitting balls) and he said the ball machine is closed at 8pm. Very disappointed as I really hustled to get down there and was looking forward to hitting a medium bucket and unwind after a long day. I've been going there about every other week for awhile (usually earlier in the evening) and the pro shop is always closed and the bar staff isn't friendly when purchasing balls from them. Also had a bad experience with the Marshall's when I played a recent round there (yelled at us to hurry up when we were literally waiting for the group in front of us) and now this. Much rather drive further and go to other golf courses with better service. read more

So we came from out of country and played here wednesday and upon arrival one of the embarrassed us infront of 15 people by telling us we have no money on our international cards after their POS system had given us errors multiple times. We then paid cash after they had made us uncomfortable and all was fine until i got notifications from my bank that they had taken an extra 114.80 USD from my card ON TOP of the 100 we had already paid. Solid short game practice facility...check. Grass driving range with lighting...check. Walkable track that's almost always in great shape...check. Challenging greens...check. Fairly priced...check. The only problem with this course is the pace of play in the afternoon. Rounds can stretch to 5 hours on busy days and the rangers don't stay after slow players enough but it's a muni so I get it. For that reason I'll give it 4 stars. read more

First time player. Pro shop and staff are quite pleasant and very helpful. The fairways were in great shape and the greens were even better. How they do that in the Arizona desert is beyond me. Just a couple of suggestions. Think about buying some extra rakes for those immaculate sand bunkers. One rake makes for a lot of lost time. Maps would be a HUGE help. The score cards only show a very small green shape. Finally, maybe it's me but I could not find a GPS site to download for this course. Our Dobson Ranch Golf Course experience on February 14, 2022. First of all let me say the course itself is well maintained, greens and fairways were in good condition. The downfall is that in 35 years of playing golf we have never been treated as rudely as we were by the staff that monitors the speed of play. The speed of play we had in the front 9 was 2 hours and the 2 hours on the back 9. A 4 hour round which is acceptable everywhere! At the 8th hole one of the staff said we were 2 1/2 holes behind. I have been a marshal to starter in the past. When I inquired about our time I was told that a 2 hour front 9 was too long and we needed to be done within 1 hour 50 minutes at the turn. Then at the turn another staff member said the same the same thing. I replied that a 2 hour round is good time and he said to get back in position, we should skip a hole to catch up. I said that wasn't going to happen, he then stated "I'll give you a rain check". We are from CA so no need for that I said. When our foursome reached the 10th green, with 2 walkers and 2 riders, the group in front of us was waiting on the par 3, 12th to play, we easily caught them and we followed them the rest of the way in. Finally, if they want to speed up play, have the course marked better for distances or add GPS. I would fire the staff as they are chasing away customers rather than having some politeness. read more

This review is only for the driving range. One of the few lighted driving ranges within 15 min from my hotel. All grass, a big plus. Huge range, must be able to hold 25+ stalls if needed. Practice green and chipping areas were closed, didn't say why. Why not say? I'm guessing they were overseeding or something, a required practice, so no harm in saying. Maybe I'm more sympathetic to golf course maintenance because I work in the golf industry, but I think they should have stated it. Hey maybe they should note it on yelp so people like me know about it. A little more lighting in the parking lot would help too, it was quite dark if you didn't park under the few light posts. read more

Great course that is well kept and beautiful. Most of the staff was very friendly and I got good vibes from them. There was one employee that kept this place from getting a higher rating. He seemed to be on a power trip when directing us to speed up our pace of play. I have no problem with trying to keep the flow moving so that all can enjoy their rounds. But there is a right way and a wrong way to approach your customers in these situations and this one employee definitely did it the absolute wrong way. read more

I don't know much about this golfing thing, except that when you miss and hit the grass instead of the ball, it hurts. Also, when you swing and miss, that also hurts. Heck, when you hit the ball it hurts. I'm so sore. This was my first time at a driving range, and it seemed like it had everything you might need. It's simple: buy a bucket of golf balls, carry them and your clubs to the designated area, and then start swinging away. I think it was pretty inexpensive - you can get a bucket of 100 balls for $10. There are a few benches out there for sitting, but nothing designated for each bay. We went at about 8pm, and there were a number of free bays. It was perfect for a beginner like myself, for the players getting coached, for families with any number of aspiring players, and for guys/gals who just want to relax after work. I'll come back, but only because I'm pretty awful at this and refuse to let the ball win. Warning: if you're thinking about bringing a date who doesn't know how to golf, it's not the most relaxing experience. read more

It's a great course. I've lived in the DR neighborhood for many years. Some of the recent changes ("upgrades") are great, others are questionable. Love the F&B staff. The outside service crew is great. They could really lower the volume of the music though.. Wanted to sit on the bar patio with my drink enjoy the weather and chat with my husband, as it was after several days of rain and it was beautiful outside. But, the music was SO LOUD. I love music and I get that they are trying to make it a more upbeat hangout but, seriously, it's a golf course not a nightclub. It was hard to have a conversation. The range is great. Some nice upgrades. But, I hope they stop where they are with the new targets out on the range. I'm afraid there may be a mini-golf windmill out there next time I go. Overall, I love DR. It's our hometown course. We love it. We love to walk over to the restaurant, have breakfast on the weekend, a drink, chat with friends, hit balls or play a round. Highly recommend. read more

Been playing Dobson Ranch GC for over 30 years. I have never seen the course in this bad of shape. Hit in the middle of the fairway and be on hard pan. Multiple tees where you need a hammer to get your tee in the ground. It's a shame this golf course has deteriorated over the last year. Before that I would tell everyone to come and play Dobson. its A hidden gem. But now. I wouldn't tell an enemy to play here. The only reason I come here is because of friends and a great BAR staff. I used to LOVE the driving range at Dobson Ranch. My friends & I went there on a regular basis. It was a great place for me to practice as a beginner golfer. I have always been (and still am) so impressed with the customer service. However, I took a 6ish month break from golf and came back today and everything has gone downhill. It used to be so simple and charming. It now has a very modern, top-golf like feel to it. We did the normal driving range without the technology part and we had to go to the far outside lanes of the range. Even then, the whole atmosphere feels very different. I really hope they change back to their old model. If not, I will probably try to find a new course. :( read more

Played this course for the first time last week, and it was in great condition. The staff was super friendly and pace of play was excellent, especially for a Friday. I was golfing alone, so they paired me with three other solo golfers, all of whom were very friendly and made the round even more enjoyable. This is a fun course with undulated greens that roll quick and consistent. My only complaints would be the bunkers and the driving range. The bunkers were rock solid, so luckily I only ended up in one. Holes 9 & 10 run alongside the driving range, but there isn't any netting so there are white golf balls scattered all over both fairways. That makes it somewhat difficult finding your ball, but it's not a big enough complaint that would warrant a lower rating. I'll definitely return to this course! read more

I'm upset having to write this review as My friends and I have golfed here multiple times in the past and never had a problem. From the moment we arrived we were met with poor attitudes by the staff in the golf shop. I figured they were just having a bad morning. Then we were given attitude from the guy out on the course. We turned after nine in 2 hours which we thought was great time. There was no one we could see behind or in front of us. We were told we had to hurry up as the group in front of us were two holes ahead. But with no one behind us we were confused as to why were being asked to pick up the pace. The man then checked up on us two more times including when we were finishing on 18. It took us exactly 4 hours to play and still no one behind us when we finished. Don't appreciate being harassed during the whole round. Makes us not want to return to a course that we have loved and enjoyed in the past. read more

Unfortunately this was the worst golf experience of our girls week golf trip in the Phoenix area! Arrived early as we generally do & was asked to go straight to the T-Box & go off early, no time for warm up, stretching, nothing! There were even a few people that were rude enough to stand on the T-Box waiting for their group to arrive while we teed off. Then in the middle of the 4th hole, a lady drives up & stated the pro shop asked her to drive out & join us, as they didn't think the "men" would like playing with a woman! How dare them! The course is rated different on their website, versus their card, versus in GHIN, needs a bit updating to be done. Last, the course is definitely NOT lady friendly! We won't be back! read more
