One of the better maintained 9-hole course around. Looking at the scorecard, I really thought this was going to be an easy round. Everything was going pretty good. Keeping my shots straight, avoiding the water and hazards. Until I came to the 5th hole. Since this was my first time here, and I should have checked the scorecard for the layout. I hit my drive a little to the right. Thought it was just fine! Until I walked to the ball and realized the lake comes around towards the hole. A very sneaky design. The greens are horrible right now, it's like putting on Grandmas shag carpet. Suggest subtracting 1 from your score due to the greens. So many shots should have made it but because of the horrible unevenness the balls fall short. Fun time, but expect to be disappointed in your score. For the price the greens should be better. 2 rating is generous... read more

This course is making a BIG comeback!!! My wife and I have played there twice in the past week and It looks fantastic. It is still a work in progress right now since they just opened after reseeding but Albert, Gil, Tyler and the rest of the staff are working hard to give us a great golf experience. Course is getting better, although I heard about a racist greenskeeper. That I do not support.

Went in for a weekly round only for my myself and my family to get harrassed by gil the maintenance guy , he called my family sp!cks & even called them the N word with the hard are even though we are not african american , clearly he is the wrong person for the position if thats how he directs himself towards people , talked to the owner albert but he had nothing to say except sorry because he says gil has been helping him with the grass , in my opinion that doesnt give someone the right to racially harrass a group or person... plenty of staff and customers can agree read more

The course itself was great, but my booking experience was very disappointing. I reserved a tee time for a certain amount, only to be informed right before teeing off that the price had increased almost 25% since my booking two days prior. While I went ahead and paid, it didn't sit right with me--when I book at a certain rate, I expect that price to be honored. Unfortunately, this lack of transparency makes me hesitant to book again, as I need to trust that the price I see is the price I'll pay. My husband and I found a hot deal on golf now that led us here. Nice course- perfect for a quick 9 hole. I would suggest for all skill levels especially for beginners. Lady in the pro shop was friendly and funny. Will definitely be returning. read more

Is the Palms under new Mangement? Played this Course since I was 10yrs old and this is the Worst I have ever seen it. Grass looks like it was not mowed for Weeks, most greens were like putting on a parking lot in dire need of resurfacing. Fun little course. Greens and fairways were in tough shape, but are getting a lot of attention and are improving weekly.

5 stars not because of overall golf course quality in mesa area. For the price it is well worth it. The course is $25 per person with cart what can you expect. It's not the Phoenician! I have been going to the course every Sunday with my grandpa (who lives in the area) since a kid. I love it. A nice 9 hole course with a good amount of difficulty that can be enjoyed by experienced all the way down to beginner golfers. As well, I saw a comment about greenskeeper racism. As far as I know, the new greenskeeper was hired within the year and I have seen no instance of racial or any type of argument/issue (I'm at the course once a week). The greens are definitely getting so much better as they did, admittedly, need a lot of work. They are now at or possibly passing their former glory. Keep in mind hot arizona summer is approaching. Overall, the course is great, the people are nice, the carts drive fast, and the drinks you bring taste the same. Unless you putt with your pinky out like you're tasting a fine wine, this course is for you. read more

The course is well maintained and very busy and a good place to kick off snowbird season if you haven't golfed in a while. The reason for the 2 stars is the staff. Most of the time they are generally doing there job, taking your money, etc. Yesterday the woman was so rude, just gruff with the whole transaction. Seriously in need of customer service training (I worked retail for years). But, we thanked her anyway and then when we went to go outside she said "you don't need that diaper on your face out there". She has no idea why I was wearing a mask, pandemic aside. Left a super bad impression, it's like she had a chip on her shoulder, ugh! Mean people suck! read more

I've always like this course I've played it about three times. Definitely an easily walkable course for anyone wanting to get a good walk in. The staff is friendly and it's kept up nice. Recommend it to anyone looking for a quick nine in the east valley. No practice range but the netting set up works well. read more

Wow. What a hot mess this course is right now! We LOVED this course as my entire family took lessons from John Woodhall. It's always been in phenomenal shape and a great way to get in a quick 9 holes. We'll not anymore!!!! My husband and I golfed there today...along with the other 5-6 crazies who golfed in 115+ heat. RJ at the desk charged us $22 each to walk ...what happened to the $9 summer rate? He knew nothing about it. The course is in horrible shape with bare dirt covering a good portion of the fairways (it hurt my heart to swing my new Cobras on this). The greens are dry and bumpy like playing Russian Roulette on every putt. Spoke with the "trying to be the manager" Mr. Petty. He gave us 55 different excuses as to why things were so awful- nothing stuck and offered us a "cold soft drink" to compensate for the issues. Seriously? Apparently the course is under new ownership. My suggestion is don't golf there until they figure their stuff out!!!!! It will be a shame to see this neighborhood course go away due to mismanagement and that's where it's headed. read more

Been to this place twice in the last 2 weeks with the girlfriend's grandpa and brother and I like it well enough. The course is well-maintained and varied and the putting green is, well, there. I only have 2 real problems with this place. The first one is that I keep losing balls in the f******* water and the second is the price.... Granted I haven't played really anywhere in AZ but it seems a little pricey for a muni course. It was like $15 for the green fee, $7.50 for rental clubs (which were meh), and $5 per person for the cart. I may be completely out of line, or crazy, but that seems a tad on the high side for an hour or so of golf. That being said, I will probably come back here every once in a while as it doesn't seem to be too busy around 11 on Sundays. Snowbirds must be in church or something but that works out pretty well for me read more

Great for what it is: a short 9 hole golf course with great greens and reasonably well kept. Good practice area and great staff, always friendly. On very hot days be sure to get there early as the sun gets toasty out there. I like the rates too as they are reasonable for what the course offers. As a first-time golfer, I couldn't have asked for a better place to try out the game. On a late May Wednesday morning, there were few other golfers on the course. My two very-experienced-golfer friends rented a cart and I rented a pull cart: total cost of a round for my friends was $13 each and $9 for myself. The 9-hole course is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood so you need to cross a two-lane street to get to a few of the holes. One of the holes borders the patios of an apartment complex (no fence) so we had a little up-close cheering section of two men and two small dogs chilling on their patio. The course has a small putting green and driving area (into a net), is nicely laid out and well-maintained. As another reviewer noted, a lot of holes border the water: if one of my friends didn't have an extendable pole ball fetcher, I would have lost 3 balls! However, the water feature is attractive, complete with ducks and tall bulrushes, and soothing to look at on a hot day. The rates are affordable: $8 for adults, $6 for juniors from May 3 to September 30 and never higher than $15 for adults, $10 for juniors during the peak January 1 to April 14 season. Two-person carts rent for $5 per person and a pull cart is only $1. The Pro Shop staff was very pleasant and one of the grounds crew actually caught up with us on the course to return a errant head cover! All in all, I enjoyed my initial golfing experience immensely and plan to golf at Royal Palms as often as our group can get together. When I've since spoken to other friends and neighbors who are golfers, from duffers to almost invisible handicaps, everyone had nothing but praise for this nice little course. Give Royal Palms Golf Course a try and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun this little gem of a course is. read more

The course is probably in the best shape I have ever seen it. They have put money into it and now have a hitting net, chipping area and putting green. The greens were in better shape than the more expensive 'upscale' course we had played the day before. Used to play it when I lived in Mesa and now go to it when I come into town and want to get in a quick 9. This is a course that you only need your irons and can get in some good iron practice. We had 1 issue in that we went on-line to get a tee time and scheduled one for 6:12am, when we got to the course they told us they didn't open until 7:00. They also said that they had had some issues with the on-line system and were in the process of changing services. They did let us go and had a great time. You might want to call for tee times to make sure everything matches. Cost is reasonable and you don't need a cart. read more
