Rude rude rude! The DMV personnel over the phone will tell you something completely different than what they tell you in the location. Be ready to be berated. I can understand policy and needing to have something done prior to getting replacement licenses, but when there is a break in communication that is where you frustrate the people. I couldn't have had a worse experience. The supervisor virtually did not correct her staffs behavior and was altogether a very embarrassing experience. read more

I am pleased, and frankly surprised, to be writing a 5-star review for the DMV -- but they deserve it for today's transactions. We recently purchased a cargo van, which had been converted to a Class B camper van -- and needed to title and register the vehicle in Virginia. As the original title was still for a cargo van, it also needed to be reclassified as a camper van. I made an appointment at this DMV for 10:50 am on a Thursday, but we reached early. They weren't too busy, and were able to accommodate me within five minutes of our arrival. The agent was a pro at her job, and had us on our way with our new title and plates within ten minutes or so. Between my husband and I, we interacted with three employees -- the guard at the entrance who was very friendly and helpful. (Rating: 5/5). We even had a brief chat about when the best times were to go into DMV to avoid lines. (Avoid the times around lunch time). Our second interaction was with the woman who gave out the "tickets" to designate your place in line. (Rating: 2/5). She got the job done, but wasn't very friendly. She also looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked how it worked after she gave me the ticket. (I thought that the process might be different for those with appointments). Finally, as mentioned, we interacted with the title specialist at window 11. She was great. She got the job done efficiently, and was friendly. Signage was good to reach the DMV. There was plentiful free parking. The waiting room had a lot of seats and restrooms (which could use some sprucing up). Overall, a good experience. read more

I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment & sent the text like they instructed me, one minute later I receive a text to head to a window. The employee helping me with my Real ID was pleasant & helpful. I made sure I went on the DMV Now website & had all the correct documents with me. I was in & out in under 10 minutes!! Everyone was very nice, I could hear the other two employees on either side of me. As long as you take the correct documents with you it should be a breeze like my appointment was today. read more

Was expecting the usual headache, but when I stopped in at 10:30 on a Monday to take my pilot car test, I was helped in a timely manner at the front, had only a brief wait while I filled out my application before being called to a service window, and was directed to the testing booth by the same friendly rep. After passing the test on this, my 1st attempt (brag), my certification was quickly processed and my temporary paperwork complete. I am leaving this DMV experience with a spring in my step, wearing a smile. read more

Terrible, I am a teen who was taking a permit test today, and the lady at window 14 was UNBELIEVABLY the rudest person at a dmv I am have ever met. I was taking the test and I put my head down for a few mins because I get really bad headaches due to the screen. It was very unexpected what would happen next, the lady comes over and starts yelling at me saying I have a phone. As a result, I start to cry because I am a very sensitive person who cannot tolerate being yelled at, especially not by a stranger. I in fact did not have my phone and had given it to my mom who had it in her possession. I feel that this lady's misery was uncalled for and unprofessional, she is an adult and I am the kid. do better read more

Racist & Rude!!!! Due to COVID-19 before you can enter the building someone stands outside the door to confirm your appointment. When I got to the front desk I was treated like a criminal & the old heifer with grey hair didn't believe I scheduled an appointment because it wasn't in the computer system. Mind you the confirmation was in my emails and she still sent me away. She was being smart with me as she handed my papers back! I've been trying to get my Virginia drivers license here 2 times before and they always say there's a problem with my papers. From start to finish, this was an absolute hot ass mess. The check-in line was from one side of the lobby to the other. That's just to get to the counter and tell them what you're there for! When our wait 16 minutes to get that far, there's a woman with a monotone voice and no enthusiasm about you being the 100th person she's encountered today. She gives you a ticket some paperwork and the waiting starts. There is nowhere to fill out the documents and one unarmed security guard who doesn't allow standing near or just outside of the desk area. He will (politely) tell you to move. Then the wait begins. I came to get copies of a document and I waited (per the ticket check-in time) over 2 hours. Just ridiculous! Do whatever you can online and save yourself the hassle. read more

Waited over a month for an appointment only to show up and be told their systems are down, no services can be given today. They don't call and cancel appointments you have to show up and be told they can't give you the service promised. So I called the phone number 12 times before I got put in the hold queue to make another appointment for another month from now. Hopefully they'll fix their camera before then. Apparently it's been broken for 3 days but they won't fix it. And the rude lady at the desk just told me to get out, can't help me. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

Not sure who the other folks dealt with that left the negative feedback were, but the two extremely helpful ladies we dealt with (both at the check in counter and at the computer testing area) were phenomenal. Despite my teen failing the test, and out having to return again two weeks later... the experience was about as smooth and as relatively painless as a DMV trip can be expected to be. I'll make sure to get the names of the folks that help us today and will report again on how the visit went. If I could give a negative number I would. Most horrible DMV experience in my 40 year life. Will never go back to this location ever again and do not recommend this location. Was told to bring X for a DL and brought that then was told it wasn't enough. Was then told to bring X and Y and brought that and that was not enough. I had scheduled Appts. Their paperwork is not clear, their employees are not helpful, employees and supervisors roll their eyes. Time is limited when you are a single parent, working, and going to school full time. They wanted to meet me "1/2 way" ... well they aren't open at 5am or 9pm. That is when I can show up without disruption. But of course they aren't open at convenient times. This DMV does not care about people. I don't know how any of them sleep at night. I'm convinced they exist to make people frustrated and stressed. #defundthedmv read more

One star because. This virus is not like it's the Black Plague. However government, county and state are treating it that way. 1st. It should never take a month to get in the door. 2nd they use to hand you your ID 15 minutes after you got your picture taken. Now months later still waiting for my ID to come in the mail. Mean while I can't get a job without it! So people are supposed to put their life on hold for god knows how long until they get their ID and lose everything they worked their whole life for! As fast as they are willing to take your money the service absolutely stinks in return as to how long you get what you already paid for a long time ago at this point. I had to ask for another person to work with since the lady at window 6 was SO rude and lied to her boss when I asked for another worker. Then the lady at window 1 was just as rude. I made an appointment back in June for August- I understand COVID is making things a little crazy. I pre-printed my application for registration, triple checked the paperwork I needed to bring (I'm new to the state) called the office the day before and morning of for a total of 8 times with no answer. My husband just got stationed here- all I needed was to register my car and the man at the front desk was so rude. He talked down to me several times, and only tried to help when he said he can reschedule me for November 2 (?!) and I said my husband is getting restationed again in November so that's pointless. All because I brought the wrong piece of mail- which I searched high and low for a list of needed materials and couldn't find one anywhere. I left in tears- and will absolutely not be back. No one deserves to be spoken to the way the man at the desk spoke to me. read more

Despite showing up without the correct forms the first time, my experience getting a title, registration, and license plates went very smoothly. The wait times were short both days (Thursday and Friday mornings), and the staff was helpful and explained what forms I needed and the best way to complete my transaction. Hey Everybody. With this whole COVID crap going on it is almost impossible to get through to the number (804) 497-7100 that the DMV website provides. I had to call about 35 times before I got through and then the line hung up on me. I then called back another 44 times before I got through and finally got someone on the line who sounded like they were miserable at their job! She tried "helping" the best her attitude could. So, she gave me a way to contact the DMV so I could get my issue resolved. I did what she told me and received an email saying that what I sent was not acceptable. So, I called back another 24 times until I got through and this awesome lady helped me the second time around. I was able to get my situation resolved. WELLLLL, I wrote all that to tell EVERYBODY in the Fredericksburg area that if you want to contact this establishment you can email the DMV at dmvdirect@dmv.virginia.gov or you can send HELLA faxes at (804) 864-6735. The DMV is pretty much famous for making you wait and having terrible customer service, but this time they have surpassed even their usual mediocre performance. My husband passed away recently after battling cancer for 9 months; in the craziness, my car registration wasn't renewed. Because it was over 2 months past due -- I honestly didn't even notice as my husband did all of that -- I had to go in person. I tried to go on a Sat. so I wouldn't have to take more time off of work. I got there when they opened (Spotsy. office), but the line was already around the building. Waited my turn; when I got to the window, was told that since my husband was deceased and only his name was on the registration, I would have to bring in a copy of the will to show I was the rightful owner. Drove half an hour home and got it. This time spoke with a manager, who informed me that because I wasn't on the title or registration, I would have to get a form from my bank! Explained that the bank had frozen the car loan so that I wouldn't have to pay until my husband's insurance came in. Dutifully went to the bank and had the form filled in; went back for a THIRD time. Now I was told that I needed to actually be on the title, so had to go back to the bank, have the loan (that was frozen) refinanced in my name. Manager was not only unapolgetice for me having to come three times, blamed me for NOT LISTENING! AAARgh! Normally titles take 30-60 days, but since I needed the title to renew the registration and actually be able to drive the car, I could get an "emergency" title if I called in on Tuesday morning; it would take several hours to process. Called Tues. on my lunch; was told it was only good for 24 hours since it was an e-title, so hustled down to the DMV after work. Had been told I could see manager directly; instead, I had to wait. This time I was told I needed a different form filled in or I would have to pay tax AGAIN on the vehicle we already paid tax on when we purchased it! Got irate and asked to speak to the manager, who just kept saying when I complained, "I wasn't there on Saturday, so I don't know what was said," as if I might be lying or stupid, which only made me more upset. The upshot is I now have to take half a day off from work to get the @#*! form filled in before the 24 hour time frame elapses. You can, by the way, write a complaint on the DMV website, although I'm dubious it'll do any good, but I feel better. If only we had a choice, but we have to go there! And that is the rub! read more

Okay first off, I went to the dmv w an app at 12pm. The "guard" or security officer gave me and my friend a really hard time tryna get into the dmv. Just bc we were first and both had an app at the same time. One good thing I can say is it was fast and simple. They are definitely taking precautions for covid. I WILL SAY THAT GOOD JOB. anyhoo, my lady who was helping me get the real id was a complete bitch. I asked simple questions. Gave me an attitude like no other. When it came time to take my picture she had me walking outta there with a TERRIBLE ID PICTURE. What person lets someone walk out of the place knowing damn well my picture looked like a straight mug shot. I asked her if it looked good and she said it looked fine. GIRL WHY WOULD YOU LIE TO ME. If I could give negative stars, I would. Despite having all required documentation, I have been turned down for registering my vehicle because some previous asshole owner titled it with a special window coating that does not exist and for which I have no documentation proving it ever existed or was removed. Despite my vehicle's previous owner having titled it in the SAME state I am attempting to title it in, they refuse to title it in my name unless I sign a form stating that I removed this nonexistent coating (perjury/fraud). If I don't sign it, I may not title and register it. This on top of four previous visits in which my documentation that was sufficient was turned down. Once because my married name was not the same as my name before when I lived in Virginia. Once because my birth certificate was 'suspicious' and they wanted me to pay over 40 bucks for a new copy. Once because my husband's name was on the title but we didn't have a bank statement or utility bill with his name to prove we live at our current address. Once because once we had all that shit, we were unable to prove the price we paid because (despite it being written on the title itself) we lacked a bill of sale. Now because we have to commit a crime to get this legally registered. Any wonder why people fly planes into IRS buildings? Any wonder why people bother to exist on the grid in this joke of a society?
