Just outside of downtown main street you've got your larger chain stores and chain restaurants. Many places for parking downtown and how fun to see the Amtrac at the Visitors Center. There's many great parks to enjoy as well. The kids used to love Yowell Meadows park but they're all grown up now. And the mountains in your backdrop are spectacular from Rte 522. I should come by more often. The change is good.

They also offer an outdoor seating area with outlets. Most of the library has natural light and the tables are spread out, which prevents sitting too closely to someone else. They have a bookstore as well as a clearance section near the entrance., these books have been marked down to $1. As you can tell I'm a regular. What can I say, it's a multiple purpose library! Built into the side…read moreof a hill, the Library of Congress' Packard Campus houses around 100 staff who help preserve film and audio from digitalizing old films, TV shows, Congress recordings, and more. They also have a very secure vault with the original films from Disney, Columbia Pictures, Warner Brothers, and more. Tours are offered every year during their Open House. Every Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday evening, the public can see old school movies in their beautifully-designed theatre in their lobby. Movie screenings are free! If you have the chance, go outside to see the giant pool surrounding the brutalist architecture.

Thanks to…read morea non-profit that fights to preserve the country's earliest memories, Cedar Mountain Battlefield is a place for all to visit for free. Stopping by while at a nearby cabin, here's my experience: 1) Parking: Follow the signs to free parking near the visitor center. By the picnic table in the yard, you'll see a trailhead with maps and info on the battlefield. Follow the trails to find old gravestones and places where the battle took place. 2) Points of Interest: Markers along the trail talk about the significance of the battle. Confederate General Stonewall Jackson drew his sword during this battle for the only time during the Civil War. It was also his last battle led by him. 3) Amenities: There are benches along the trails looking out over the fields. Two cannons can be seen near one field with two outhouses nearby as the only restrooms on the grounds. It is worth noting that three historic markers put up by the Culpeper Calvary Museum clearly glorify the Confederacy over the Union. Even though erected almost 100 years ago, the fact that they remain standing shows the gap between an equitable society in this country.

There are historic gravesites, markers, and memorials. Today the site was quiet, with only 1 other hiking couple that after they left the visitor center parking, I didn't cross paths with them again. The caretaker was welcoming and engaged in lively conversation and recommended other nearby points of interest as well.

Pulled over for simple traffic violation and given a fix it ticket. I'm from out of state and…read morerecently moved to Virginia and not aware of all the different state laws but given a ticket anyway. When I asked the officer whether there would be court fees he said he did not know that. I called and there are a lot of fees. Even after correcting the issues and providing proof I will still have court fees when really it was a lack of knowledge on my part and could have been corrected with a warning. Very disappointed in the lack of empathy and knowledge of this officer. I had deep respect for police but that respect has been significantly lowered after this encounter.
